saya pun tak de rasa nak gi lagi setakat ni..., cukuplah sekali...
diaorang ni kasar dan mcm kurang ajar sikit..., kebanyakan imigresen dia, suka2 campak2 je passport kita..., bukannya tak boleh nak bg elok2..., dah lah muka mcm cuka, tak nak senyum langsung...
Saya pergi masjid Wan chai pun, dia punya pekerja pun tak mesra alam sgt, kasar pulak tu..., main campak2 je mangkuk2 yg dikutip masuk dlam besen..., punyalah bising bunyinya... Kalau ngan Cina2 HK (islam agaknya), elok je muka diaorg manis melayan..
dah hari kedua, kami dtg, baru nak manis sikit..., agaknya, sebab hari pertama kita tak tahu prosedur nak order makanan, cam tercangak2..., mereka ingat agaknya kita indon mari keje kat HK... |

Eh, ramai gak yg ada prob ngan imigration HK ni ye, last year masa gi first time everything okay, lepasja.. cuma time tu masa heboh H1N1 so kena health screening je la lama sikit...
tapi pegi this time, teruk betul.. kat custom tu sikit punya banyak org bawak beg besar, tp we all 2 org yg bawak backpack ni yg kena tahan... sebabnya, pompuan melayu berdua ja... siap kena scan semua bag, dengan sling bag sekali.. pastu siap nak tgk return ticket... dah tengok tiket tu (AA kan) siap kata... so cheap your ticket... huhuhu
setuju bab org HK sombong, kita br nak excuse me nak tanya jalan... dia buat tatau ja... baik lg org kat shenzhen, walaupun xpaham apa satu, drg still nak membantu. pasni dah boleh tutup buku HK dah, gi tempat lain lak... |

pas tu siap dibantu lagi dek amoi hk masa anak2 sy tak lepas utk naik MTR ..

Salam, I baru balik dari HK last nite. My review coming soon |

General
Airport
On arrival, getting through Immigration & collecting our bags was a breeze. We joined the queue for Visitors/Macau PR instead of the queue for Visitors because it was shorter & faster. We landed in HK at 1.10pm, and were out of the airport before 2pm. By 2.30pm, we were already in our hotel room at Disney Hollywood.
Departure took longer time. First queue for check in, then queue to get in (scan boarding pass), then Q for scanning bag & body, then Q for immigration. At immigration, the officer asked our 7 year-old daughter to identify herself (tell her name). We arrived at airport at 1.30pm, had quick lunch at Popeye's, got through all the Qs, prayed in surau near gate 42, and reached our boarding gate at 2.55, just in time for Final Call.
Overall, no problem at airport.
Weather
First 2 days were very cold, we needed thick jackets. Then the weather got warmer & warmer, that by the last day, we were dressed just like we do in M'sia. Banyak variation betul HK weather. Our lips & body got dry - needed lip balm & body lotion.
People
The peope were generally friendly when we asked for direction. One staff at Ziafat even went down from the restaurant & walked with us to show us the nearest 7-11. The lady at the counter at Masjid Ammar gave us very good direction to go to Star Ferry. We made use of the concierge/tour desk at the hotels we stayed in to confirm directions - they were really helpful, including the bellboy.
The people there seemed rough, but I guess that's just their manner. Some people tried to cut Q at Disneyland, but I blocked them One waitress at Masjid Ammar scolded me for writing down my dim sum order on the small card she handed to me, "No you don't write. You go to table and choose. No you don't write!" How would I know haha. But the other lady was more helpful with our order (the same one at the counter).
A couple of times, ada bau2 'kurang menyenangkan' when I sat too close to the local people. Diorang tak mandi kot.. the weather was cold then. |

Getting around
We walked, took shuttle bus, MTR, public bus, ferry, taxi. Taxi fare was expensive: $100 for airport - Disney Hollywood Hotel, and $200 for Disney Hollywood Hotel - Holiday Inn in TST. MTR stations are everywhere & easy to use, but be prepared to walk a lot because the stations are big. We walked very longgg distance at Central and Causeway stations, it almost made me give up taking MTR altogether! IMHO, if there's a choice between taking MTR & a bus, I'd rather take a bus (provided you know where to get on and off of course). Star Ferry was cheap ($2.50 for adults, about half that for kids).
HK is a small place, it's easy to get around. When walking, we tend to overshot (terlajak) because the places are actually nearer than it seemed on the map. Perhaps the scale that they use for HK maps are different than the scale we usually see on M'sian maps Actually the maps are very detailed, even small roads are included. The buildings are rapat2, and many roads are small, so some places that we wanted to go were actually within walking distance.
Food
Halal food was basically non-existent in Disneyland area. I'm glad I brought a lot of food from M'sia. At Disney Hoolywood Hotel, a small carton of milk cost $20.
Once we moved to Kowloon, food was no longer a problem. We ate at Ziafat, Istanbul Kebab, and Masjid Ammar. At Ziafat, we had 1 mixed grill, 1 plain naan, 2 garlic naan & 1 bottle of mineral water ($140). At Masjid Ammar, we had 1 plate of fried rice, 5 baskets of dim sum, 2 pots of chinese tea ($101). At Istanbul Kebab, we had 2 chicken doner rolls, 1 plate of chips, 1 lavas bread, 2 black tea & 1 apple tea during the promotion time ($86). Later for dinner we had 1 lamb doner roll, 1 lamb doner + chips, 1 lamb sheesh chips, 1 lavas bread ($160). At Chicken Popeyes at the airport, we had 1 chicken sandwich, 2pieces chicken, 1 onion rings, 1 biscuit, 2 coke ($116). My top pick is Masjid Ammar for the taste, price & satisfying factors.
We bought Garden bread (green packet), milk & eggs. The bread was sweet, my hubby didn't like it but my daughter loved it. |

Attractions
1. Disneyland
My daughter loved it sooo much. The place is perfect for little girls (and the kids in us). The rides are quite tame, except for Space Mountain. My hubby & I particularly love the 3-D show. My daughter loves everything there. The parade & fireworks are good, but we've seen better.
I've been to Disney World in the US, and HK Disneyland is a lot smaller. But what I really like about HK Disneyland is that the queues are a lot shorter, unlike in the US. The most we had to queue for each ride was 20 minutes. Some rides had no queue at all. We were in Disneyland for 1 and a half day, and had enough time for all the rides & shows. we also took photos with Mickey, Minnie, Tigger, Goofy and Pluto. I'd say HK Disneyland is value for money because we actually spent a lot of time experiencing the activities instead of queuing, unlike in US where I spent more time queuing than doing activities.
2. Ngong Ping 360.
It's a disappointment for me. The queue to buy tickets was very long, and then more queue to get on a cable car. We reached Tung Chung cable car station at 12 pm, and only got on the cable car at 1.20pm. It's better to buy tickets beforehand at other places, but we didn't because we wanted to get the on-going promotion whereby a child gets a free ticket for each adult ticket purchased. Another time-saving tip is to buy the crystal cabin ticket instead of the standard cabin ticket. For just a few dollars more, we saved a lot of time, especially for the return trip.
IMHO, the cable car tickets were expensive. And up at Ngong Ping, there really isn't much to do beside sight seeing. Those who're fit can walk on the hilly trail, but we were not up to it.
3. Symphony of Lights
This is a laser show. My daughter summarised it in one word: boring. I guess nothing could measure up to the fireworks at Disneyland for her. For me, okay la. Seen it, time to do something else. Not that memorable.
4. Avenue of Stars
A very short stay for us because the place was super crowded. There was a concert going on then.
5. The Peak
A tram trip up to the highest point in HK. Overall a good experience. Tram tickets were reasonably priced, but Madame Tussauds was too pricey so we didn't get in. Up at the Peak, we had a good view of HK.
6. Ocean Park
My first impression was, this place is like a big funfair. We bought discounted tickets at a counter inside Admiralty MTR ($222 for adult and $111 for child). We did everything at the Waterfront, except for the air balloon (queue time 45 minutes) and the bungee trampoline (my daughter is too young for it). Overall, no queue really at the Waterfront, perhaps because the rides are mainly for little kids.
The Summit, on the other hand, was very crowded. And the rides looked really scary. The adventurous type would love the Summit. But the queue was very long for all the rides - can be easily 45 minutes for each. Even the merry go round Q was more than 30 minutes. However, things improved considerably after 5pm. Most of the crowd had disappeared then, so there was basically no Q at all. My hubby went on the Dragon roller coaster - he really enjoyed it. Then he and my daughter went on the Crazy Galleon (the ship) - my daughter loved it but it gave my hubby a headache.
Overall, Ocean Park was a good experience. But be prepared to walk on hilly slopes (really tiring). And the map was confusing, somehow they got the scale all wrong so the arrangement on the map is different from the actual layout. And the whole place (almost) smelled of sotong kering. |

Shopping
1. Disneyland
Expensive. The cheapest item I could find was a Mickey pen ($35 each). And then I found simpler pens sold in sets of 4 ($80) and a set of 6 ($95). Some tiny fridge magnets were sold at 50% discount ($47.50 for a set of 4). I closed 1 eye and bought for my daughter a pencil case ($100), a tumbler ($70) and a few other small stuff.
2. Citygate Outlets
My hubby conveniently had a headache so we spent less than 1 hour here. Esprit outlet was huge but very crowded - the clothes looked affordable: can get casuals for slightly below $100). Crocs Outlet was small & also very crowded - limited choices for my daughter's size. I bought her a pair of sandals for $118. Coach outlet was not crowded because they control the size of the crowd - I had to queue to get in. The cheapest item I found was wristlets ($400 each). Many handbags were on sale between 20% and 50%. I bought a pair of sunglasses for $1,080 (RM450). On top of the displayed discounts, there was an additional discount of 10% on total spending. Many ladies went almost crazy here.
3. The Peak
There are small shops selling souvenirs at the Peak - keychains, fridge magnets, watch rings, watch necklace, jade, bangles, etc. I bought 4 bangles for $90 and 10 bottle opener FM for $100.
4. Toys'R'Us (City Harbour shopping mall)
My daughter thought she had gone to toy heaven! There were wide varieties and some items are cheaper than in M'sia, eg games like Dominoes, stumbling blocks ($39) and some board games. I bought a Mickey umbrella for her for $39.
5. Ladies Market
Wow! This is the place for immitations handbags, belts, and souvenirs. I love this market for the bargaining - it was so much fun. I went between 9 and 10.30 on Monday night and it was not crowded. We bought 10 HK t-shirts for $200 (no bargaining), dinner handbag for $100 (initial price $180), a big Hello Kitty bag for $90 (initial price $180), a set of 5 Disney metal keychains for $60 (initial price $180). A seller scolded me for bargaining the keychains at $50, so I just walked to another shop and got it at $60. I offered $80 for the Hello Kitty bag, the seller wanted $100, in the end she said "You tell me how much, you tell me" and we agreed on $90. At one shop, I asked "how much?" to a chinese lady, thinking that she's she seller. She replied in Malay, "saya tak tau. saya pun pelancong dari M'sia". She tried to help me to bargain for the HK t-shirts, but with no success.
6. Goodyear Perfumes
I bought perfumes for myself and as souvenirs for a total of $600. In the end I don't know whether I got a good bargain because some of the perfumes I never really heard of, and the discounts offered seemed unreal (from $550 down to $330, and from $180 down to $90).
7. SASA
Another heaven for my daughter. I love it too. Elizabeth Arden perfumes were so cheap, it made me regret going to Goodyear. I also love the sample size branded skincare like Lancome, SKII, Estee Lauder, Shiseido etc. I bought a small sized Shiseido night cream for $39, and a Palgantong SPF powder for $70.
8. A small shop next to Chung King mansion
We had to buy a new luggage so we went to this small shop next to our hotel. We bought a medium size hard suitcase for $400 (original price $520). It looks good & resilient but I don't know whether it was a good bargain. |

Conclusion
Overall, a fun and tiring trip. Would we go again if we had the budget? Yes, for Disneyland (definitely), Ocean Park (may be), Citygate Outlets (lovely), Ladies Market (if there's time), Toys'R'Us (if there's time), dim sum at Masjid Ammar (yummy). But next time we'll wait for AA promotion and stay for shorter duration. |

Bungacinta2002: you're welcome. You have fun in HK ya .. don't worry, it's easy to get around.
HasMK: betul, HK memang memenatkan. From day 1 I dah sakit kaki sebab banyak menapak dlm Disneyland. Itu pun I pakai sneakers throughout. Nasib baik I bawa minyak Mestika.. malam2 my daughter tolong urut tapak kaki |

monik, hari pertama I di sana (17 Dec) sejuk sangat. I sampai nak menggigil walaupun dah pakai thick jacket. Kemudian the weather got warmer and warmer, such that we didn't need to wear a jacket anymore on the last day we were in HK. From below 10C on the first day, up to 22C on 22 Dec. I guess you'll need to check the weather forecast before going there.
Selamat bercuti di HK. Have fun.. |
