CARROLL LIFELINE

WIGAN have offered old boy Roy Carroll a Premiership lifeline.

The Northern Ireland goalkeeper has been released by West Ham and Wigan are keen to bring him back to the JJB Stadium.

Latics manager Chris Hutchings wants an experienced goalkeeper following John Filan's departure and Carroll spent four successful years at the club before joining Manchester United in 2001.

Carroll, 29, is keen to get his career back on track after a season blighted by drink and gambling problems and has not played since the start of February.

Who should your club buy?

By GARY PAYNE

ARSENAL
FRANK McLINTOCK (1964-73)
Arsenal need a bigger squad with a little more quality and better replacements than they had last year.
It would be great if Arsene Wenger could bring in a couple of super players to the squad. Samuel Eto抩 playing alongside Thierry Henry would be fantastic.
With Emmanuel Adebayor and Robin van Persie also there, it would be sensational.
I think it will be difficult for Arsenal to challenge for the Premiership title again but it should be a lot closer than it was this year with regards to the points.
ASTON VILLA
GARRY THOMPSON (1986-89)
We have been linked with Artur Boruc at Celtic and Craig Gordon at Hearts and I think it is important that we do get another keeper in.
Thomas Sorensen has done all right over the last few years but we do need a fresh face.
With the arrivals of John Carew, Ashley Young and Shaun Maloney it looks as if Martin O扤eill has got the nucleus of a good side now.
But it would be good to bring in another striker. Gabriel Abgonlahor has done really well, but he is still a kid and may need to be rested over the course of the season.
BIRMINGHAM
IAN ATKINS (1988-90, 1991-92)
I think bringing in two centre-halves is a must for them. Madjid Bougherra at Charlton is a quick defender and would be a good addition.
It is a big job and they need people in all areas and it depends on how much they are willing to spend in order to stay in the division.
Nicklas Bendtner going back to Arsenal will be a big loss to them. They need to add some energy to the midfield.
BLACKBURN
SIMON GARNER (1978-92)
Mark Hughes has bought well in the transfer market and has a good squad at the club but I believe he is short of a striker.
Benni McCarthy was probably the transfer of the season last year but Hughes will need a 15-goals-a-season man to take the weight off his shoulder.
A proven striker like Peter Crouch, David Healy or David Nugent would be ideal.
BOLTON
PAUL WARHURST (1991-96)
I think a couple of central defenders will be on Sammy Lee抯 wish list this summer.
With the club being in a transitional period you don抰 know who will stay or go.
Bolton have had a couple of great seasons and next year will be massive.
In terms of the type of player Sammy looks to sign, it will all depend on whether or not he decides to change the way Bolton play.
He could be looking to sign a ball-playing centre-half

MAN CITY
COLIN BELL (1966-79)
Sylvain Distin has already gone. You never really know what is going to happen over the close season.
We could do with strengthening in every area of the team as long as they are quality players.
City are crying out for a prolific goalscorer

MAN UTD

VIV ANDERSON (1987-90)

United will need a centre-forward if Louis Saha goes and also another left-back if Patrice Evra or Mikael Silvestre leaves. - nama gaby xder pulak :stp:

There is talk of Fernando Torres going there. That would be a good signing because he is young and athletic.

Gareth Bale has gone go to Tottenham, I quite like Leighton Baines at Wigan.

He is a young player who has done very well.

CHELSEA
RON HARRIS (1961-80)
The man I抳e been impressed with are Dimitar Berbatov,Teves and Onri.
I think they and Didier Drogba up front would do Chelsea a great turn and I hope the goals would fly in.
Drogba抯 scored 30-odd goals last season and, in a better side, Berbatov would score just as many.

Premiership Offer For Saviola
21st June 2007

The race for Javier Saviola hots up as Premiership more likely than stay in Spain.

FC Barcelona striker, Javier Saviola may slip out of Real Madrid's speculations and into the English Premiership.
The Argentine yotuh soccer goal idol has been linked with a move to the Premiership for weeks now, but Javier has refused to confirm the club of his destination.
Reports however suggest Javier is being tempted by a possible 80,000 pounds a week offer from English Premiership side, West Ham, who are in dire search of a striker to either replace out bound Carlos Tevez, or partner with the striker in West Ham if the English club decide to keep him. The option of Tevez's fellow Argentine countryman,Javier Sviola looks quite promising to produce a quicker result and West Ham have repotedly listed Saviola on their books.
Barca's Saviola is also linked with Premiership Champions Manchester United, and a suggested link to Liverpool FC so far has not been concrete.

Reports are today suggesting that Tottenham will listen to offers for pacey hit-man Jermain Defoe if they complete a deal for Darren Bent this week.

Bent, 24, recently rejected a move to West Ham United and is believed to favour a move to Tottenham this summer.

The in-demand Charlton forward will push for a starting spot up front if he moves and it is believed Defoe is not interested in being fourth choice (behind Bent, Berbatov and Keane) at the club.

Portsmouth, Bolton, Everton and Aston Villa are all believed to be interested in Defoe if he decides to leave White Hart Lane.

Real close to signing Tevez

Carlos Tevez has moved a step closer to signing for Real Madrid after his representative Kia Joorabchian met up with Real officials in Israel to negotiate a transfer.

Spanish newspaper AS reported that a deal could be imminent after Real's sporting director Predrag Mijatovic held lengthy talks with Joorabchian.

Tevez appears certain to leave West Ham, despite becoming a fans' favourite at Upton Park last season and helping the club to retain their Premiership status. The Argentinian forward is keen to play in the Champions League.

Madrid are currently on an end of season tour to Israel, but are already putting plans in place for the next campaign after the departure of David Beckham. The Spanish champions will face strong competition for Tevez from Inter Milan but now look the favourites to sign him and a deal could be reached over the weekend.

Newcastle are apparently very close to nabbing Alan Smith from Manchester United (Daily Mirror). It抯 a move that will suit both parties so on the ranking meter I give this a 8/10. However, if Big Sam is expecting Alan Smith to score more goals than yellow cards he is sadly mistaken, but at least he is getting a player who has heart and limitless determination.

Sunderland are closing in on much touted Championship striker David Nugent (various). Roy Keane can be hard man to turn down and a move to such a club would at least guarantee a prolonged spell in a Premiership outfit so I think this one could well bear fruit.

Apparently Charlton are to give in on their massive

Finally, Martin O'Neill is hoping to fool players into thinking that Aston Villa are a good bet for continuing improvement.  One target is said to be Shaun Wright-Phillips (Daily Star). To me this just doesn't seem to make sense. If SWP wants the regular first team football he undoubtedly deserves he can surely do so at a better club, such as Spurs, Newcastle or even Blackburn Rovers. 2/10.

SWP leh la kot cari tim lain ..
