Fluency in English tu tahu ke apa makna nya in the first place?
For us, Malaysians, yang 1st language is not English, kita kena practice listening and hearing la. Kena la practice bercakap and pemahamam.
FLUENCY in English does not EQUATE PERFECT grammar. (Which kepam rasa dia paling terror buat now).
BUT fluency in English (or any other languages for that matter) is EQUIVALENT to automatic retrieval of correct structure of words within a short span of time (in order to reply someone)- bukan loading and loading macam kepam!!!!
You are fluent in English when:
- You do not translate from BM in your head.
- You can sustain meaning even with imperfect grammar.
- Your listener/reader does not need to work to understand you!
That’s FLUENCY!l IN ENGLISH!
Moving to another country across the world will not do you any good if you can’t speak fluent English kan? Yelah, bila dah terpaksa, kena la speak pun if duk US tu…tapi ko balas balik gagap, fluent ke tu?
”Practice makes perfect” kata nya, nengok je la kepam…speaking hancur, spelling hancur, written hancur for someone yang cakap pindah to another country and konon ada “friends” or hubby that speaks English. Gagap je selalu! Balik2 “hell yeah”, or “Dumbass” je keluar.
Sebab minah tu tanya opinion on how to be fluent in English..fluency is not entirely speaking with a perfect accent, perfect grammar ke hapa…is how cepat otak ko kuar kan ayat untuk bercakap dengan structure ayat yang betul supaya orang yang dengar ko paham Apa benda ko cakap ni!
Pi je la British council ke and belajar oral English, pi dengar BBC News ke, English podcast ke, baca buku/ newspaper English out loud ke, join toastmasters ke! It’s wayyyyyy much cheaper than flying off to a foreign country and start speaking English. Stupid advice la kepam ni. Tak realistic on that part!

Written English kena belajar lain.
Tak leh campur aduk both of that.
Menjerit la orang yang study linguistics or English baca nasihat kepam ni. I cannot la betina ni bagi nasihat bangang.

bodohnya kepam bagi nasihat kat org mcm tu..rempit betul otak ko hanis kepam.
dia ni ckp English pun tak pandai..pastu try hard bunyi slang buruk. sebab tu x nmpk langsung dia berbual dgn Jess or babu in proper English.
dulu mase kat UNITEN ko ada ambik Muet tak? I saspek takda ambik langsung atau x lulus atau just dpt level MUET Band 1 jer.. the lowest level of English proficiency. |

Masalahnya, she gives advice that’s not even remotely realistic… throw in a few examples of “reading la, watching movies with subtitles la” yang boleh pakai tapi to my eyes, that’s nothing!
Then she goes all “move to another country and surround yourself with people who speaks English and get yourself a white BF” bullshitttttttt! I mean, what is that? Dia dapat immigrant negro pun bahasa tetap ghetto jugak dia persembahkan.
If you can’t be constructive and realistic at the same time in giving out advices, then STFU! Nak jugak sibuk bagi advice tapi in actual fact dia nak membongak je lebih. |
