Yesterday was Ella’s 28th birthday, crew members of GTV idol drama - [Down with Love]and Jerry Yan spring a surprise celebration for Ella. Although hisfilming will only start in the afternoon, Jerry specially arrived earlyfor the celebration.In order not to let Ella sense anything amiss, Jerry hid in the car forover 2 hours. When Ella knew about this, she exclaimed, “Aiyah! Soheart aching!” Then she playfully touched Jerry’s arms and joked, “Nowonder your arms are wet!” Not wanting to be outdone by Ella, Jerryteased her by interrupting when she was about to share her birthdaywish, by saying, “Don’t say it, don’t say it! I don’t wish to listen!”Despite the bickering, the good friendship between both artistes isevident. Other than presenting Ella with a bouquet of flowers,Jerry also wrote a card to express his appreciation to Ella, who hasbeen a great influence to him recently. Ella’s birthday coincidentallyclashes with the official release date of Jerry’s long-awaited album of5 years – [Freedom]. The fate between these 2 artistes has, thus,seemingly deepened their friendship.
Jerrywaited in the car for over 2 hours under the hot sun. He had not turnedon the air-conditioner and only wound down the window for ventilation.However Jerry did not mind the having to bear with the hightemperature, as his main intention was to give the birthday-girl, Ella,a surprise. Jerry shared that as he was recently tied up with promotinghis new album and filming, he was unable to prepare any present forElla. Although there was no lavish gift, Jerry specially made time towrite the birthday card for Ella after he finished work the nightbefore; upon hearing this, Ella was very touched. She said, “Actually Iam not lacking in anything. But I am very touched when I receivedeverybody’s cards. Just like when I woke up in the morning, and saw thecards my sisters and brother placed on the dining table; just readingthe contents alone, I’m already feeling very blessed.”
During filming yesterday, the moment Xiao XiaoBin break for lunch, he kept shouting “Ella-jie-jie, happy birthday”and started to hum the birthday song. In addition, he also played the“peck-on-the-cheek and passionate kissing game” with Ella. Little girl,Ji Xin Ling, also presented Ella with a kiss and gave her a handmadecard and ornament for her birthday.When Ella received the surprise bouquet from Jerry, she joked, “Sincethe kids have presented their kisses, does Jerry have to follow suit?”In response, Jerry smiled and said, “In the serial, there will be somereally impactful scenes (referring to kissing scenes).If we were to kiss now, then viewers’ anticipation won’t be as highsubsequently.” Hearing this, Ella immediately replied, “Ok, ok, ok, Iwould want to have a lasting impression of that scene then.”
In addition to the surprise from fellow artistes, the producer of [Down with Love],Ke Yi Qin also came onto the filming site to present Ella with agenerous gift – a new surfboard. Ella said, “If Jerry is willing, I caninvite him along for surfing!” But when it comes to seeing thesurfboard, the most excited party has got to be Xiao Xiao Bin. While he watched Jerry holding onto the surfboard, Xiao Xiao Bin almost leaned fully onto it, insisting to be a part of the ongoing conversation between Jerry and Ella.

Jerry Yan suffering from insomnia; consults Zai Zai & Ella for help, Sunday June 21, 2009 Taiwan
JerryYan has filming drama and releasing album burning at both ends. Withthe immense amount of pressure, he started getting insomnia half a yearago. And he even consulted good friends Vic Zhou (Zai Zai) and Ella forremedies: “The scariest thing about insomnia is that your eyes are opentill morning, and then you think about all the work you have to do,without getting any sleep.”
Yesterday, Jerry held aninternational fan meet at Yang Ming Shan. And 2000 seats werecompletely filled by fans from Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Korea etc.Each person had to pay 1000 yuan entrance fee, and the whole eventearned over $2million. In order to avoid being suspected of ‘suckinggold’, JVR publicity manager Zhang Lan Yun expressed: “Minus the rent,hardware and software costs, and the company also has to make up thedifference. If there’s any money left over, we will donate it tocharity.”
At the event, Jerry told many cold jokes. When thehost asked him about the character he plays in his new drama ‘Down WithLove’, he replied: “In the drama, I play doraemon.” (translator note:drama and doraemon sounds similar when you pronounce it XD) Andeveryone exclaimed: “Oh so cold!” Jerry had anticipated this fan meet,but when he gets nervous, he tends to get insomnia. Zai Zai told him totake sleeping pills, and Ella recommended he take melatonin, but hefeels that taking sleeping pills isn’t good for his health, so he triesto avoid it if he can.
When Jerry gets insomnia, his mood isalso affected. There was once when he didn’t get enough sleep, he keptNG-ing and he was so angry he hammered the table. Director Ke remindedhim: “When you don’t smile, everyone feels pressure.” And Jerry tookthis good advice, saying: “If my laughter can make everyone else happy,then I should change my work methods.”
But Jerry has also beinginfected by Ella’s bubbly personality. Yesterday, his attitude was veryrelaxed, and he did not reject taking photos and hugging fans. Busywith his album, filming drama, and getting insomnia due to hisnervousness, Jerry had lost a lot of weight. This made fans heartacheand many gave him vitamins and other health products.
