Legendary Band Sads Returned with a Live Performance at Nippon Budokan!
On May 1st, Kiyoharu's legendary rock band Sads returned to their activities with a performance at Nippon Budokan, with a total of 7000 people charmed again after 7 years. It is said that the event had been triggered by the death of a good friend of Kiyoharu, who was a music editor known as Tojo Masato.
The members of Sads are, among Kiyoharu as their vocalist, K-A-Z on guitar, Kubota Keisuke on Bass and GO on drums. "I had been looking forward to this so much. I think the music is still causing me some head aches as of now, however, we will be starting out from here!" And at these words Nippon Budokan sank into a roar of excitement, which could crush the venue among the flashing lights.
Sharp sound filled the hall until the very last bit of the performance, with the last words on the further evolution of Kiyoharu and Sads.
"In July or August we are going to do a short tour. It will be really short...We are grateful towards everyone, who came to our first performance! Please keep on thinking that you were shown a new great Japanese band."
In 2010, which has already been marked by Sads, there will also be a new album released on July 7th, to look forward to!
The band Ikimono Gakari will have a 3D music video for their newest song, titled "Arigatou." In addition, it will be Japan's first 3D music video to be publicly shown in movie theaters.
For just one week starting on May 8, audiences watching the 3D movie "Alice in Wonderland" or "Clash of the Titans" will get to see the 2-minute video before the start of the film. The screenings will be limited to three theaters: Wald 9 in Shinjuku, Burg 13 in Yokohama, and Burg 7 in Umeda, Osaka.
Ikimono Gakari is actually the second Japanese artist to do a 3D music video, as UVERworld also created one for their song "GOLD." However, UVERworld's video was limited to a private screening, with tickets given out by lottery to fans who purchased the band's new album.
"Arigatou" is currently being used as the theme song for the NHK drama series "Gegege no Nyoubou." It is being released as a single on May 5.
Last year, the popular anime series "K-On!" achieved the first #1 album by anime characters, and this week, it achieved the first #1 single. "GO! GO! MANIAC," the opening theme from the show's currently-airing second season (titled "K-On!!"), sold more than 83,000 copies to claim the top spot.
In addition, the show's ending theme "Listen!!" sold 77,000 copies to rank #2 for the week. Before this, the only female singers to achieve the top two singles in the same week were Keiko Fuji in 1970 and Seiko Matsuda in 1983.
°C-ute's new song charted at #5. Hilcrhyme (#6), Yukari Tamura (#7), and Shoko Nakagawa (#9) also entered the top ten.
On the albums chart, Hideaki Tokunaga's "VOCALIST 4" remained at #1 for the second week in a row. The only new release to break the top ten was from SURFACE, which barely made the list.
Anzen Chitai to tour Asia

Reunited rock band Anzen Chitai is launching an Asia tour this year. The group will perform its first concert in Hong Kong since 2002, as well as its first shows ever in Taiwan and Korea.
Anzen Chitai is starting a domestic tour on July 3 that will run until October 3. The band's three concerts in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Korea have been scheduled during the end of that tour, between late September and early October.
According to a source close to the band, Anzen Chitai received concert offers from other countries shortly after they announced their reunion this past January. Details of the concerts are expected to be announced on May 24, during a press conference in Hong Kong.
Anzen Chitai just released their newest single on Wednesday, and their next album will go on sale simultaneously in Japan and Hong Kong on May 26.
Rock band the HIATUS will release their second, currently untitled album on June 30th.
Despite being a relatively new rock band, the HIATUS have established themselves a solid fanbase due to their affiliation with several notable rock musicians including Hosomi Takeshi (ex.ELLEGARDEN) and members from other bands including Thee Michelle Gun Elephant, Radio Caroline and FULLSCRATCH. The album will follow in the footsteps of the band's previously released album Trash We'd Love which was unveiled in May 2009. Trash We'd Love peaked at #1 on the Oricon and was shortly followed by a 21 date tour which completely sold out due to heightened popularity from eager rock music fans.
The album will be issued in CD format and the band have also revealed that the upcoming album (and their debut album) will also be made available in limited edition LPs. Further details of the album are expected to be updated via the HIATUS' official website in the coming weeks. Following the release of the album, the HIATUS will embark on a national tour from July to October which will consist of 35 performances. The tour, simply entitled "TOUR 2010", will begin on July 2nd at Chiba LOOK and conclude on October 5th at Hiroshima CLUB QUATTRO.
flumpool to release double A side single June 23rd
Rock quartet flumpool will release the double a-side single reboot~akiramenai uta~/Nagareboshi on June 23rd.
flumpool have rapidly gained popularity since their beginnings in Osaka in 2007 and with the release of their debut album What's flumpool!!? on December 29th 2009 achieved the #2 spot on the Oricon. The album also gained recognition for becoming the world's longest album at 79:58, which beat the previous record held by Mariah Carey's album The Ones (79:56).
Following the success of their previously released single Ketsui, flumpool will release their second single of the year. The single will be produced by Tamai Kenji who is known for working alongside such artists as YUKI and Base Ball Bear and is rumoured to begin a new stage of flumpool's musical career. The single will be issued in a CD and CD+DVD format which will feature five tracks total and the DVD will include documentary digest, documentary from their performance on April 29th at C.C. Lemon Hall and the music video for Nagareboshi.

Flumpool will be on hiatus after this single due to Yamamura Ryuta's undergoing a polypectomy
On the 29th of April, it was made known that flumpool's vocalist Yamamura Ryuta will undergo polypectomy in the first half of June and spend the next few months resting.
Some time during the later half of February, Yamamura went for a clinical examination after realising something was wrong with his throat during rehearsal. A polyp had actually been discovered in his throat during a check-up right after the group's debut in 2008, but with the band's shot to fame and relentless schedule, the operation was pushed back, and the size of the polyp grew.
