LONDON: Bintang England, Wayne Rooney membantu Manchester United gah menjulang mahkota kejuaraan Piala Liga selepas tandukan tajamnya pada lewat babak kedua mengesahkan kemenangan 2-1 ke atas Aston Villa dalam perlawanan akhir, awal pagi tadi.
Bagi Villa ia satu lagi detik hampa apabila hadir mahu memburu gelaran utama sejak 1996 - kebetulan apabila mereka menjuarai kejohanan ini 14 tahun lalu.
Apapun, Villa membuat kejutan apabila mendahului seawal minit ke-5 menerusi sepakan penalti disempurnakan James Milner.
Tersentak, United bangkit mengemaskan permainan dan selang enam minit kemudian usaha gigih sepasukan membutirkan hasil apabila Michael Owen tampil menyamakan kedudukan.
