Vidic: I want to stay at United
Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic has revealed he wants to stay at the English champions next season and has never fallen out with manager Alex Ferguson.
Vidic has not played for United this year due to a niggling calf injury but some newspapers in England and Serbia suggested he had fallen out with Ferguson ahead of United's FA Cup tie with Leeds United in January.
"I have never had a conflict of any kind with Sir Alex Ferguson and rife speculation that I want to leave United is completely untrue," Vidic told Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti.
"I have a contract until the summer of 2012 and I have every intention of seeing it through to the very last day.
"United have made me the player I am today and there is no substance whatsoever in rumours that I have been looking for a move away to either Real Madrid or AC Milan."
Vidic, who has won three Premier League titles and the Champions League with United, missed their 3-2 win at Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday but hopes to be fit for the return leg at Old Trafford on March 10.
"I can't wait to get back on the pitch and although I've had a long layoff, I feel strong and fit again," he said.
"I think I will return to action very quickly and hopefully I will be back to my best as soon as I am picked in the starting line-up again.
"We got a great result at Milan but we have to raise our game for the return leg and I am sure we can."
Treble-chasing United are one point behind Chelsea in the Premier League and play Aston Villa in the League Cup final at Wembley stadium on February 28. |

Paper Round: United to move for Cole
Joe Cole faced the ignominy of being subbed at half-time during his last Chelsea appearance but he could be about to get his revenge by signing for one of his club's fiercest rivals.
Cole (pictured), who was replaced at the interval against Cardiff, is out contract in the summer and the Daily Express reports that Manchester United are set to make a shock move to try and sign the England winger on a free transfer.
Tottenham are also interested in Cole, but the Express believes that Sir Alex Ferguson will tempt Cole with the prospect of becoming Ryan Giggs's successor at Old Trafford.
Chelsea are usually more famous for their ins than their outs, and they have been linked to Dortmund's young 20-year-old centre-defender Neven Subotic. However, manager Carlo Ancelotti has been told by the player's agent that he will need to pay a "hell of a lot of money" if he hopes hope to land the Serbian international (The Sun).
Chelsea of course are facing a massive clash with Manchester City in just over a week's time, and all the media attention will be focused on John Terry and Wayne Bridge.
Premier League players traditionally shake each others hands before a match, but according to The Sun, Bridge will not face disciplinary action if he refuses to shake hands with Terry.
In other Manchester City news, Patrick Vieira is set to accept a three-match ban from the FA after being charged for his tackle on Stoke's Glenn Whelan's "nether-regions" (Daily Star).
Whelan proved he is very much a glass half full kind of guy with his reaction to the incident by saying: "Thank God I am not more well-endowed. Maybe if I was a bit bigger it would have hurt more." Every cloud, as the saying goes, every cloud!
Robinho recently left Manchester City to go on loan at Santos and he has again insisted he has no desire to return to Manchester.
"Santos is my home, I feel great here. I love playing for Santos. I'm in my country and close to my family. I want to stay here for as long as I can. If it was up to me I'd stay here for the rest of my career," he said (The Sun).
Arsenal have struggled at times to field strikers this season and they could be set to lose one of the hottest prospecs in their academy as 18-year-old Gilles Sunu is set to quit the club and join Ligue 1 champions Bordeaux (Daily Mirror).
One player with no intention of leaving the Premier League though is Everton's Steven Pienaar, with the South African saying he wants to stay at the club despite reported interest from Bayern Munich (various).
Portsmouth are looking for special permission to sell players outside of the transfer window to help their finances as they continue to teeter on the brink of oblivion. The Mirror says that Marc Wilson, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Nadir Belhadj are the players they feel they can get rid of.
West Ham's plan to move to the Olympic Stadium has received a blow with Olympics Minister Tessa Jowell once again insisting that the ground must still be used for athletics once the Games are over (The Sun).
The Hammers are also launching legal action against their former solicitors and the FA. They are taking on the former in relation to the bad legal advice they received on the Carlos Tevez affair, while they are attacking the FA as Dean Ashton's career-ending injury happened while on England duty (Daily Mirror).
Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones admits that his heart was set on a move to Liverpool during the January transfer window and the striker has left the door open for a future bid.
"If one of the world's big clubs comes in for you, it's understandable a player might have the desire to go to that next level," he said.
Meanwhile, Birmingham City are set to open new contract talks with manager Alex McLeish after the Blues' strong season so far (various).
Finally, in the Championship, West Brom want to sign former player Jason Koumas from Wigan (Mirror), but The Sun reckon Newcastle are favourites to capture him.
The administrators in charge of Crystal Palace are set to block QPR's approach for manager Neil Warnock (various), while Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough both want Blackpool's £2 million rated Charlie Adam (Star). |
