Leaving Me Loving You
Synopsis:
While the cold wind whistles in the deep winter, inside a fancy noodle shop, a young couple-Qian and Yue-breaks up. There is no crying, no hysteria. It is just peaceful and quiet, as if nothing has happened. A relationship that has lasted a year and a half just ends like that.
Qian is an on-call doctor in Shanghai. Everyday, he waits in the car with his assistant, Dong, for emergencies or accidents. When they get a call, they always manage to arrive in no time. They race their car in the streets and alleys of Shanghai City. Qian believes that a doctor should be a lifesaver that is ahead of his times; and there should not be a second wasted. Not only is this a good way to make a living, it was also his ideals for learning medicine. For this reason, Qian is always stepping on the gas with joy, eager to save lives.
Yue is the manager of a small PR agency. In order to survive in the competitive Shanghai market, she knows she must have something special to offer. Thus, she racks her brain to design birthday parties according to people's wishes; whatever you can come up with, she will deliver for you.
These two metropolitans, leading two very different lives, have nothing to do with one another after breaking up; they no longer see each other. They live like strangers in the same city. Life continues on. Two months' time has easily elapsed.
Mr. Meng is Shanghai's number one man of wealth. He is well over 80 and leads a life of luxury. However, aware that the man has limited time in life, his family wants to throw him a splendid birthday party. Ma, the butler and his right-hand man, therefore secretly recruits a number of PR agencies to bid for the undertaking of a surprise birthday party for Meng. Yue is among the bidders for the project. She puts in all her resources, even borrows money to prepare for the bid. All the while, Ma is also worried about Mr. Meng's old age. Thinking that Meng might not be fit for extreme excitement, he hires Qian to be one of the judges for the bidding proposals. Finally, the day to turn in the proposal has come. The very confident Yue is taken by surprise when she sees Qian. From a professional point of view, Qian vetoes Yue's proposal thinking that it might have an adverse effect on Mr. Meng's health. What an awkward situation for an ex-couple to meet again.
Qian unintentionally sabotaged Yue's business. As revenge, Yang-Yue's best friend plus assistant-makes prank emergency calls to Qian, keeping him on the run. Eventually, Qian catches the two girls on the scene. Yue hits Qian in frustration. Too shocked to respond, Qian notices the tears on Yue's face. Yue didn't cry when the two broke up earlier. But now, she just can't hold it any longer. She releases all her anger and sadness by shouting at Qian. Qian wants to say he is sorry, but Yue leaves the scene in tears without giving him the chance.
After seeing Yue again, Qian starts thinking about a lot of things. He recalls why they were together in the first place, and why they broke up. Every place he goes to seems to have Yue's shadow. Hearing that Yue has a cold, he seizes this opportunity to go to her apartment to bring her medicine, and to apologize. But Yue has already moved. Qian cannot find her anywhere. Her phone number and all other ways of contact have all been changed. It seems that she has made up her mind to never see Qian again. Qian feels defeated.
Meanwhile, Yue meets Ma again. Ma tells her that she still has the chance to do Mr. Meng's party. Yue is delighted. If Yue comes up with any new ideas, Ma says, she must ask Qian for assessment, so as to not cause Meng's family any worries. Having decided not to see Qian ever again, Yue feels it's intriguing that she always ends up getting involved with him. But for the sake of her business, she will do it.
After getting a call from Yue, Qian goes quickly to the top floor of Jinmou building to meet her. Qian follows Yue's lead to a ventilation window that opens to a night view of the entire Shanghai city. While Qian is still puzzled by all this, loads of fireworks sparkle in the sky. Turns out Yue has arranged this, as it is part of the birthday party plan. Watching the fireworks, Qian realizes there hasn't been such romantic moments when they used to go out. Now that they are experiencing this together not as lovers, Qian feels something stirring up in his heart. However, for Yue, it is strictly business. She urges Qian to write up a report for this as soon as possible, and then leaves the place. Afterwards, Qian's feelings have not been able to subside. It was he who wanted to break up back then, it is also he who starts to have feelings again now. Qian decides not to pay any attention to it and just let it be. In the following days, Yue calls Qian out to see her new ideas, all of them romantic and fabulous. And now, it is not only Qian but Yue also, who has feelings bubbling up inside.
Due to financial problems, Qian is forced to move. When he settles in, he discovers from his apartment window that Yue lives opposite him. Qian doesn't go visit Yue or tell anyone about this, he stays in front of the window and observes everything Yue does everyday. One day, Yue comes home, and the decrepit front door of her apartment falls down and nearly crushes her. Seeing this, Qian runs over to her rescue. Yue finally finds out that Qian is living next door. Meeting again in such a circumstance, Qian can no longer suppress his own feelings and so he kisses Yue. Yue pushes Qian away, telling him that there's no chance she will take him back, and thus they shouldn't waste each other's time. She says that she has already made up her mind and that she will have no regrets. Even though what she tells Qian is not all true to her heart, Yue insists that she doesn't want to be with Qian again. Seeing this, Qian can do nothing but leave. The next day, when Qian tries to find Yue, he learns that she is already gone, disappeared from his world, once again.
Qian meets Mr. Meng by chance. He tells Qian that he always misses his young lover-Ling. Qian wants Yue to know this, so he passes on this information to Ma. The fact is Yue has only gone back to her hometown and not anywhere else. She has gone back to borrow some money from her family for the birthday party. Right when she gets back to Shanghai, she receives a call from Ma, telling her Mr. Meng's birthday wish. Yue is overjoyed, and so very grateful to Ma. When Ma tells her that it is Qian who wants her to know this, Yue is transfixed with astonishment |

Comment about Leon Lai
Legendary Leon Lai: Why Cantopop Needs Him to be Well
(by: Anni Lam, taken from hkvpradio)
During the heyday of the "4 Heavenly Kings," charts were dominated by Jacky, Leon, Aaron and Andy. Although most would argue that Leon was just 'at the right place at the right time,' or merely had good looks, I believe it was more than that. Most of his rivals have faded, but Leon's staying power lies in his denial that his prime has passed. Still, even the brightest stars lack luminance amid cloudy skies. Leon is one of them, still dotting our horizon.
A decade and a half ago, Leon was the butt of all jokes. Since then, he's climbed music charts, achieved A-list superstardom, and won the rights to perform at Beijing's 2008 Olympics.
For someone who started out as a nobody, with a quivering voice and a bashful composure, it's quite an achievement for Leon to build himself an enclave of power and clout, and sustain this kind of long-term success in a loyalty-free world like Hong Kong.
It's either Leon is really that good, or Leon's peers aren't much of a competition. Or perhaps, it's both.
If it's unclear, Hong Kong's music industry has been taken over by incompetents. Since the departure of Alan Tam, Leslie Cheung, and Anita Mui, music executives have found it difficult to replace them, and even harder to recreate the music excellence that hustled records off store shelves.
If we can attribute industry mediocrity as the key reason for why our best and brightest depart from Hong Kong, why aren't efforts focused on artist development and retention?
The sad truth is, industry executives aren't smart and don't care, and it shows. Rather, the Hong Kong audience isn't smart and don't care, and it shows.
Most people find it too soon to impart respect for Leon. It could be his age, or it could be the comical idiosyncrasy that comes with being pigeonholed into a clique named "Heavenly Kings." Leon has been around the industry since 1986 - 16 hard working years and still going at it. His predecessors, like Alan Tam and Leslie Cheung, have ran only half that distance. Yet, in this relatively short time, they have attained larger-than-life stature that make grandmothers whet with joy.
Can we find the respect in our hearts for Leon now, or will we wait till he's gone? Leon hasn't made a significant departure from Asia yet, and if the industry doesn't want to shape up, then perhaps he should consider.
Will we continue to celebrate unskilled amateurs like Nicholas Tse, Eason Chan, Miriam Yeung and Gigi Leung? They don't seem to have a clue. Worst yet, they're half-bent on jadedness without having experienced true magnificence. It's unfortunate that current artists lack discipline and ability. They even lack entrepreneurial vision to recognize the good they can do. If we can keep Leon alive in this business, we should. He's probably its last savior.
Cantopop needs a damn good, mean revival. It'll be interesting to see how Leon fits into that picture. More importantly, Leon should direct this future. If it were up to me, Leon should retire a legend. |

Aku dpt jumpa Leon Smalam!
Haaaaiiii!!! Seperti yg telah dijanjikan... aku akan share pengalaman aku masa jumpa hero puuuuuujaan hatiku smalam dgn korang sumer! Wokeh!!
Keadaan stage sebelum event di One Utama.
6/2/2004 - Aku tiba di One Utama seawal pukul 1:30 pm sbb terlampau excited! Anyway aku sempat belasah KFC kat sana sbb perut aku dah lapo! Sambil tu aku dok sibuk sms geng LFM (Leon Family Malaysia) & bagitau diaorang yg aku dah selamat tiba di 1U. Lepas makan aku sempat merayau2 sekitar 1U utk mencari stage tempat Leon & Faye mengadakan majlis prebiu filem terbaru mereka ~ "Leaving Me Loving You". Aku first time sampai kat 1U ni... mak aih.... besau betul 1U nih... nasib baik aku tak sesat! Last2 aku berjaya gaks cari stage tu... wuiyoo... memang bestlah... banyak poster Leon kat sana. Dalam pukul 3:30 barulah aku jumpa dengan geng LFM... actually itulah pertama kali aku tengok muka2 geng LFM. Tapi kami mcm dah kenal lama sbb selalu keep in touch pakai sms.
Dipendekkan cerita, mulai pukul 5:00 pm org ramai dah mula memenuhi ruang sekitar stage. Aku & geng LFM dah bersiap2 salin t-shirt LFM kami. Time tu boleh dikatakan hampir seramai 40 org ahli LFM yg menghadirkan diri. And spt yg aku katakan, kat situ aku sorang jer yg Melayu! Aku tak tau lah apa pandangan org ramai di sekitar aku, anyway geng2 LFM yg lain sumer pelik tengok aku... anyway diaorang sumer peramah! Hampir setiap dari mereka dtg kat aku & kami berjabat tangan... alamaks... glemer kejap makcik!! Rasa mcm artis laks! Hehehe!! Masing2 bagi aku semangat & nampak excited bila tengok aku pakai baju LFM!! Apa lagi aku ni pulak bertudung kepala... ahaks!!
Geng Leon Family Malaysia.. sedang bersedia menanti kemunculan hero pujaan hati kami!!
Tepat pukul 5:30 kami semua (LFM) berbaris & berjalan ke ruang khas yg disediakan oleh pihak penganjur. Waduh... memang rasa glemer betul kami hari tu! Kitaorang dapat special treatment sbb presiden kelab kitaorang kenal rapat dengan pihak penganjur. Manakala fan club Faye Wong terpaksa berdiri di tempat public!! Kecian! Pukul 6 acara dimulakan oleh 2 org DJ drp stesen radio cina no.1 Malaysia ~ FM988. Mereka mengadakan permainan dgn para penonton. Oh ye.. bahasa yg digunakan adalah bahasa Kantonis.. so, sorilah aku tak dpt nak translate apa yg diaorang cakap, ar!! Semasa acara permainan sedang berjalan, tetiba kedengaran suara peminat2 Faye menjerit... oh... rupa2nya Faye & Leon dah sampai, diaorang ikut laluan belakang stage!
Tepat pukul 6:35 suasana jadi semakin gamat apabila Leon & Faye muncul kat atas stage! WAHHHH!! Aku just fokus kat Leon! Aku sibuk snap gambar dia... member2 cina LFM sumer lagi canggih.... masing2 bawak kamera digital & v-cam!! Walaupun takdelah dekat sangat, tapi aku tak peduli... itulah saat2 berharga buat aku yg boleh diabadikan melalui kamera aku... cewah!! Dah dekat 3 tahun aku tak nampak dia in live... weh... Leon memang maintain gitu walopun dia nampak kurus sket!! Kitaorang kat bawah stage sibuk meniup wisel yg dibekalkan utk mendapat perhatian drp Leon! Leon hanya tersengih memandang kami... dia nampak banner yg kami rentangkan "LEON FAMILY MALAYSIA". So, dia melambai tangan ke arah kami.... wow! Best lah dier! Mesti dia rasa bangga sebab LFM still alive kat mesia hingga ke saat ini! Manakala peminat2 Faye memanglah fanatik giler.. dah nama fan club diaorang pun "Fayenatic Malaysia"!! Tapi kesian member semua duduk kat belakang kitaorang jer & tak dibenarkan dtg berdiri sama2 dgn kitaorang sbb diaorang tak berurusan dgn pihak yg sepatutnya sebelum ini.
Peminat2 Faye ramai yg terdiri drp kalangan peminat lelaki! Rasanya bilangan diaorang terlalu ramai... lebih dari 100 org kot! Dah lah duduk kat belakang kitaorang, pastu main tolak2 sambil jerit2 nama Faye cam hesteria! Nyampah! Bising betul! Nasib baik ada sekuriti guard dtg kat belakang kami & suruh diaorang step back! Berani diaorang tolak2 kitaorang ni, huh??!! Kitaong LFM cool giler! Takdelah kecoh cam diaorang tuh! Ader member cina aku yg tgh sibuk merakam gambo Leon pakai v-cam, asyik kena tolak oleh peminat Faye dari blakang!! Bengang dia sebab gambo dah goyang2 laks! Kureng tul!!
Pastu acara perasmian dimulakan dimana Leon & Faye meletak tangan masing2 diatas skrin besar yg ader gambo hati. Pastu ditayangkan pula sedutan2 dlm filem "LMLY".
Apa lagi... aku pun ikut berlari pergi rebut... nasib baik dapat sekeping sebab time tu peminat2 Faye macam giler datang serbu!! Wooo... besar betul poster tuh! At least ada something sebagai 'token kenangan' utk dibawa pulang!!
Malam tu aku ikut member2 cina aku gi dinner kat restoran jepun... mak aih... tak reti aku nak makan, tapi aku kata nvm... boleh cuba!! Yg best tu makan kena pakai chopsticks! Hah... amik kau! Tapi nasib baiklah selama ni aku dah selalu blatih guna chopstick masa makan megi... hahahahaha!! Member cina aku tersengih bila tengok aku guna chopsticks & cakap: kamu dah selalu berlatih guna chopstick, ho??!! Aku just buat slamba & senyum jer!! Makanan jepun tu ok gak... anyway still not my taste at all!!
Pukul 10:30 mlm kami dah sampai kat rumah member cina aku. Kami berlima tido kat sana malam tu. Pukul 11 malam masing2 khusyuk dengar radio FM988 sbb ada interview secara live dgn Leon & Faye. Aku tak paham2 apa pung! So, aku sibuk gi mandi dulu & buat apa yg patut. Diaorang siap rakam sesi interview tu dalam kaset. Lepas dah abis interview, kami makan2 makanan ringan & buka botol air sparkling utk meraikan serta make wish semoga esok kami dapat snap gambo sama2 dengan Leon!! Diaorang memang nice... disebabkan aku yg muslim kat situ, diaorang beli air botol sparkling jer! Kalo takde, mesti diaorang beli beer, kot!! Hehe! Lepas tu kami berbual2 ttg Leon & masuk tido hampir pukul 2 pagi! Mlm tu memang aku tak berapa lena tido sbb kepala aku sibuk imagine apa yg bakal berlaku esoknya!!

Perjumpaan hari ke-2
7/2/2004 ~ Seawal pukul 9 kami dah kuar dari rumah & pergi cari kedai mamak utk breakfast dulu. Kami belasah roti canai jer. Pastu kami terus bertolak menuju ke Mid-Valley sbb member aku tak tau jalan menuju ke Sheraton Imperial Hotel, iaitu tempat berlangsungnya movie-meeting dgn Leon sekejap lagi. Kami park kereta kat situ. Wah.. semakin excited!
Fuh... kiutlah dier!! Serentak itu kami semua bertepuk tangan. Dia pakai blazer kat luar. Kat dalam dia pakai t-shirt kaler biru muda, pakai seluar jeans biru, serta Nike sport shoes. Wajah dia nampak berseri2 & in a very good mood! Leon duduk di kusyen di sebelah DJ FM988. Sebaik shj mereka duduk, Leon tersengih memandang kami & DJ tu segera bertanya kat Leon: "Ada apa2 yg kamu nak kata dengan peminat2 kamu di sini?!" Then Leon seperti sedang berfikir sejenak, then dia senyum memandang kami & cakap: "Hai!" Kami semua just ketawa!
Kami telah diberikan peluang bertanyakan apa sahaja soalan kpd Leon, tapi soalan2 terpaksa ditapis terlebih dahulu & hanya sebanyak kurang 7 soalan sahaja yg diutarakan kpd Leon. So, semasa sedang menjalani sesi temubual yg aku tak faham tu, aku just amik kesempatan merenung Leon sepuas2 hatiku!! Hehehehe!!! Walopun aku tak paham aper2, namun aku tengok Leon memang tangkas menjawab setiap soalan yg diajukan kepadanya. Adakalanya semua orang ketawa bila dengar jawapan Leon... mesti dia tengah buat lawak tauge tuh! Actually tempat aku agak strategik... aku rasa Leon ader ternampak aku dicelah kepala2 LFM member yg kat depan aku tu. Kalo tak silap aku, aku duduk di baris yg ke-5 atau 6 kot. Anyway aku rasa Leon mesti ingat aku ni wartawan dari majalah melayu agaknya sbb dia just nampak kepala aku jer! Dia tak nampak aku pakai baju LFM!!
Setelah hampir 20 minit sesi temubual berjalan, tetiba Leon bagitau (setelah diterjemahkan)...: "Excuse me... saya nak kuar kejap... karang saya datang semula!" Pastu dia cepat2 kuar dari bilik dgn diiringi escort2 dier. Eh... kenapa pulak dier nih... nak pi mana??! Aku dah rasa kendur hati... takkan dah abis, kot??!! So, auntie kat sebelah aku (LFM member) bagitau, Leon dah tak tahan lagi!! Tak tahan??! Tak tahan aper laks??! Auntie tu bagitau aku lagi: "Dia nak pegi tandas!!" Ceeeeehhhh!! Kureng ko Leon!! Masa ni lah ko nak terkucil!! Tadi tak mo pegi!! Ntah hapa2 ntah! Tapi selepas 3-4 minit dia masuk semula ke bilik tu.... kami semua tepuk tangan.... dia just tersenyum jer & segera mengambil tempat duduknya semula. Then tiba sesi amik gambar... para wartawan sibuk amik gambar Leon... kat bilik tu jadi macam seolah2 ada kilat sabung menyabung! Pastu diaorang lak sibuk nak bergambar dgn Leon. Leon berdiri di tengah2, manakala para wartawan mengelilingi Leon... mereka bergambar scara berkumpulan.
Pastu kami LFM request nak amik gambo dengan Leon! Leon setuju... so, bebudak ni semua menerkam kat dia... aku rasa malas nak pi sbb nanti berhimpit2 kat situ... tak best lah!! Anyway cara tu memanglah tak adil... so Leon kata baik amik 2 team! Leon cepat2 pergi ke tepi & biarkan member2 LFM yg lain menyusun posisi masing2. Aku & sorang lagi member cina aku cepat2 bangun & rush ke arah Leon yg tengah berdiri kat tepi menunggu, tapi ada 5-6 org member sibuk bersalam dgn dia. Sampai jer kat depan Leon, member aku cepat2 hulur tangan salam dengan Leon. Leon tersenyum & kata "Hai!" kat dia! Jeng-jeng!! Then tiba giliran aku... aku rasa jantung aku nak meletup keluar... aku just pandang muka dia... isk... inilah wajah yg aku dok slalu tatap kat dalam filem & majalah! Pergh... putih melapak cam kertas! Pastu kulit dia memang bersih & berseri2! Masa tu sempat gak aku berfikir, aku pelik gaks... apasal bila kat dlm gambar atau filem muka Leon nampak tua & berumur. Anyway bila aku tengok muka dia secara dekat ni, muka dia still maintain cun.. mcm umur akhir 20-an jer! Aku tak tipu... selama ni memang aku bayangkan appearance dia setaraf dgn umur dia yg baru cecah 37 tuh! But bila jumpa dia in person, memang amat berbeza sekali.
Sebaik saja dia mengalih pendangan ke arah aku, aku kata "hai" kat dia & dia nampak macam terkejut... kami sama2 hulur tangan... WAH!! Akhirnya aku dapat juga menggenggam tangan Leon!! Whoaaa... tak tau lah macammana perasaan aku masa tuh!! Leon yg dgn muka masih terkejut tapi tersenyum dengan kiutnyer segera menyapa aku... mula2 dia nak kata "Hai"... tapi kemudian dia kata "Hello!!" Wahhh!! So sweet!! Cara dia cakap "Hello" kat aku tu sememangnya very very sweet!! Aku sampai tak reti nak cakap apa... tapi aku tahu dia terkejut tengok aku sebab aku pakai baju LFM!! Hahahaha!! Bestnyer aku dapat buat Leon terkejut gitu!! Aku memang tak dapat lupakan ekspresi muka dia bila tengok aku! Aku yg dok terkelu kat situ tak mampu berkata apa2 lagi.... actually banyak yg aku nak cakap, tapi tetiba sumer blank!! So, aku hanya mampu senyum & angguk kepala kat dia.
Then tetiba Leon kena panggil utk amik tempat bagi sesi fotografi kami. Aku pun ikut cepat2 amik tempat. Leon berdiri di bahagian paling belakang sebab dia tinggi sangat!! Lepas beberapa saat, dia kata, "Tunggu dulu, biar saya pergi depan pulak!" Then dia cepat2 duduk di atas lantai dgn gaya posing-mautnya di hadapan group kami! Wah... sportingnya dia!! Memang Leon sengaja nak berlaku adil!! Dia pun dah biasa possing gitu dgn Leon Family negara lain! Then flash kamera sekali lagi sabung-menyabung... rasanya banyak kamera wartawan2 akhbar & majalah cina. Abis jer turn kami, team LFM yg kedua pulak mengambil tempat. Aku cepat2 pergi ke tempat aku & amik kuar kamera sbb aku tengok takde siapa nak larang bila sumer orang kuarkan kamera masing2!! Aku amik kesempatan ni snap gambar diaorang! Alahai... Leon memang kiut sesangat!
Selesai sesi gambar dengan LFM, Leon terpaksa menamatkan function kami sbb dia kena rush ke KLIA amik flight balik ke hongkong jap. Sebelum melangkah keluar, dia sempat mengucapkan terima kasih kpd semua & melambai ke arah kami sambil berkata "bye2"! Lepas tu aku & member2 yg lain pun keluar dari bilik tu... tapi kat pintu keluar tu ada lagi poster2 movie Leon yg akan diagih2kan. So, aku & geng2 aku yg lain amik kesempatan ni amik lagi poster2 tu... walopun poster yg sama cam smalam, tapi ia sememangnya amat berharga buat kami! Aku tak tahan lagi... abis sumer peminat Leon yg non-LFM member aku sms, bagitau yg aku dah dpt salam Leon!! Pastu aku call adik aku... haa... kalo buleh I want to tell the whole world!! Aku rasa excited giler... itu baru dapat salam & Leon kata hello kat aku jer!! Memang aku ni fanatik.. hoho!! Pastu aku just ikut geng LFM lepak2 kejap kat lobi hotel tu... mungkin diaorang tak abis2 borak ttg function tadi. Pastu ada auntie yg juga member LFM datang kat aku & cakap, macam mana? dpt salam Leon?!! Haaa... aku kata, "Yes! Wahh... dia kata hello kat saya... Whoa... saya tak tau nak kata apa.. he's very nice! Hou leng chai, hor!!" Auntie2 tu semua ketawa jer tengok aku yg still mcm dlm keadaan separa sedar!!
Then selepas 1/2 jam baru kami pergi ke entrance, sbb nak amik teksi. Tetiba kami ternampak ada van mercedez yg dok tunggu kat pintu hotel. Eh, agaknya Leon yg nak check-out kot. So, kami pun dok tunggu kat situ. Kami just dpt balas lambaian dia & seterusnya van tu memecut menuju ke KLIA.
Well.. that's all yg aku dpt share dgn korang sumer. Sememangnya tempoh 2 hari ni rasanya terlalu singkat buat aku, tapi apa yg nyata sememangnya merupakan antara salah satu pengalaman yg penuh bermakna bagi peminat seperti aku nih.

Leon Lai News Today 07/02/04
Leon and Faye went to Kuala Lumpur (KL) to promote "Leaving Me Loving You" yesterday. Leon arrived at the airport for departure only at around 9.35am, and the flight would take off in 20 minutes' time, so he was in a rush. However, seeing the fans and reporters waiting for him, he politely stopped for photo-taking and wished everyone Happy New Year.
As the traffic jam situation in KL is very serious, both Leon and Faye took a train to the city, and really reached their hotel in time. Then they set off for a fans gathering and a movie promotion event at a shopping mall in the evening. In travelling to the shopping mall, they were afraid of the rush hour crowd and sought the help of traffic police to lead the way. An original 3-hour drive became only an half-hour ride.
The shopping mall where the movie promotion was held was 4-storey high and was crowded with over a 1000 fans. Fans acted out the scene whereby Faye hit Leon with a handbag and made both of them laughed. Faye said that Leon told her to give all out while filming that scene, so she harshly hit 3,4 times, and Leon did not mind at all.
Leon's manager Joe Chan revealed that Leon and Faye will continue to go to Singapore, Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu and Guangzhou to promote their movie.

Leon Lai News Today 08/02/04
Leon and Faye reached Kuala Lumpur the day before to begin their Asia promotion tour for the movie "Leaving Me, Loving You", and received a series of interviews from the media. Faye Wong always does not talk much, and this time, she met Leon who likes to talk. During interviews, when Faye saw photographers had to change their batteries frequently as Leon talked a lot to answer every question and had a lot of different expressions, she laughed that Leon is a "long-winded bag".
Faye did not mind having rumours with Leon, and joked, "If you don't use rumours to promote a romance film, I will find it odd instead." Asked whether she felt awkward when filming intimate scenes with Leon, she admitted that as she had not filmed much intimate scenes before, she had to overcome the feeling. About her standards in choosing films to act in, she said that she did not know what her standards were, but of course she had to see the script first and have confidence in the director. However, when she first saw the outline of the script of "Leaving Me, Loving You", she actually did not have any feelings. She accepted the role only because she trusted Leon.
Leon was asked whether there was any chemistry in his cooperation with Faye. He actually used a fight between a couple as an analogy. Most of the time, only the bystander could see who is right or who is wrong. As for whether there was chemistry, definitely it was up to the audience to decide. In the movie, Leon loved to write letters to his girlfriend to express his feelings. However, he said that in real life, he was a very direct person. If there were any problems, even if he had to knock on the other person's door, he had to talk it through.
Leon returned to Hong Kong yesterday night to attend Walks For Millions this morning. Tonight, Leon would fly to Singapore to continue their promotion activities. |

Leon Lai News Today - 10/02/2004
Leon & Faye in Singapore
Leon Lai and Faye Wong finished their 6-day, 5-night promotional tour for their new film Leaving Me Loving You in Southeast Asia. Tomorrow they will return to Beijing and Hong Kong for the movie premieres. There are rumors surfacing that a wealthy woman in Taiwan, Hui Seun-May, has declared her love for Leon. At the Singapore airport, Leon said he wouldn't respond because he doesn't know about the news.
Leon Lai has spent lots of energy to care for his baby, the new film Leaving Me Loving You. This film has advanced his career in behind-the-scenes production. A man who was born in Beijing believed that as a Chinese man, he should make a movie based on a China city - Shanghai. Based on this energy, Leon launched Leaving Me Loving You as the creative director, producer and leading man.
Leon is unafraid of rumors and invites Faye Wong to join his cast as the female lead. The two create a perfect match, making the audience feel comfortable watching them. In the film, they are a pair of separated lovers, bringing out the romantic stories within Shanghai. Leon plays a doctor and Faye plays a publicist. They separate after dating for one and half years, without argument or tears, as if nothing has ever happened. After two years, while organizing the 80th birthday of an old man, the two bump into each other. They drown in arguments, but within the heated debates, they begin to understand each other more deeply.
Leaving Me Loving You premieres on February 12th.

Always Wanting To Be The 2nd. Leon Lai!!
Barry says "People say Leon can't sing but I think he can."
Raindrops dribble off the end of Barry Cox's nose as the dark-haired singer from Liverpool launches into a rendition of Leon Lai Ming's Love All Day. He sings with a gusto that suggests he is the lost fifth king of Canto-pop performing before a packed Hong Kong Coliseum.
The "concert" is being staged on a slate-grey Sunday afternoon in a decidedly unglamorous street between a Delifrance cafe and Sheung Wan Post Office. Undeterred, the self-styled "Leon Lai Of Liverpool" flings his arms around wildly as if semaphoring on acid and nervously attempts a few dance steps across the slippery stage - a two-metre long metal plank balanced across two small boxes.
A few of the hardier spectators respond as Cox belts out Lai's Sugar In The Marmalade and soon a sea of umbrellas (a multicolour hodgepodge of Hello Kitty, 7-Eleven, ParknShop monikers) begins to sway.
By the time Cox has rounded off with a Putonghua rap, from Lai's Happy 2000 which Cox has reworked as Happy 2002, the Liverpudlian has been handed balloons, sweets and a lai see packet from smiling spectators.
About the time he sees his first music concert - Lai playing in neighbouring city Manchester - and becomes transfixed (I thought 'doesn't he look cool'. It's the first time I'd had goose bumps just watching someone singing"). He is determined to become the new Lai.
Cox has little, if any, power over the movie's production. "I signed the rights away," he says. "But I hope whoever they cast to play me is good-looking and has style." His favourite actor is Jean Claude Van Damme, an unlikely proposition. Cox has been promised a cameo and his vocals may be used for voice-overs of the songs. It's not yet known if Lai will be asked to play a role in the film but Cox would like him to.
"Lai is my idol," gushes Cox. "I met him backstage at a concert at the Coliseum last October but I didn't get to say much to him becauses he was rushing around doing make-up, costume and that... but I managed to get my photo taken with hum and a friend got it autographed for me."
Cox's eyes light up. He didn't dare tell his idol he was known as Liverpool's Leon Lai. Says Cox:"He'd have thought 'What the...?' I have to try to break it to him slowly. I know there'll be a time when I can talk to him about it." (He later asks if I can help him meet his idol.)
Cox is not a fan of modern Canto-pop. "I'm more of a sei dai tin wong person," says Cox, referring to the four kings of Canto-pop: Andy Lau Tak-wah, Leon Lai Ming, Aaron Kwok Fu-shing and Jacky Cheung Hok-yau. "I like to say that I'm the fifth."
Even Chinese people say it's too hard but there's a first time for everything," says Cox. "When I watched Lai's concert recently, I sat there picturing myself on stage in front of thousands and thinking one day that'll be me'. It will happen. |

Leon Lai News Today - 14/02/2004
Leon and Faye attended the Hong Kong premiere of "Leaving Me Loving You" the night before. The movie was shown in 26 cinemas in its first day of opening and its box-office takings was about HK$700,000. In addition, 8 shows in IFC cinema today (valentine's Day) had already been fully booked. The film company predicted that there would be a box-office takings of HK$3 million for the first 3 days. Both Leon and Faye were quite confident of the box office. Other than the two leading actor and actress, many good friends in the showbiz also attended in the premiere, including Andrew Lau, Alan Mak, Sandra Ng, Peter Chan, Peter Lam, Christopher Doyle, Francis Ng, Eric Tsang etc.
Besides being the actor in "Leaving Me Loving You", Leon was also the creative and production controller of the movie. Therefore, he was especially concerned with the promotion of this movie. At the premiere of the movie held the night before, he arrived punctually. In the movie, all the dialogues by Leon and Faye were spoken in Mandarin, which is their Mother tongue in the place they were born, so both of them expressed that the feeling was more familiar and close. Fireworks were released during the premiere and it was quite beautiful. Leon and Faye wished everyone a Happy Valentine's Day.
Leon hoped that this movie would bring out a message that even couples who have broken up can be together again. He said that everyone had experienced separation and reconciliation, and in the end, they could still be friends. Asked whether every couple who had broken up could still be friends, he said that everyone's feeling was different, some could get back together. Asked whether it was the same for him? He said, "I do not hope that the simple message of this movie would become a tool for the media to create rumours." He stressed that the movie is a work with sincerity.
Leon's love life seemed to be quite interesting, was it included in the movie? He said that he did not want to implicate himself. "Leaving You Loving Me" had used 1 year and 2 months for production and he only hoped that everyone watched it from a pure movie perspective.
Asked whether he felt that he had done his job well as the controller, Leon said, "If I can't do it, I won't force myself, because if you do not have time for it, the stress would be very great. I would do it just right." It was pointed that Leon was the investor. He stressed that the movie was invested by his management company and he was just helping out behind-the-scenes. He hoped that he would have chance to work with many different directors in the future. Asked whether he had plans to be a director, he said that he still do not qualify, as filming a movie is different from filming an music video, there are too much things to consider.
Asked how he would spend his Valentine's Day, he said that he would be in Shanghai to promote the movie, but this was not the first time he spend the day with work. Asked whether he thinks Valentine's Day is important, he said, "With love, everyday is Valentine's Day." |
