Storyline for DWL
Yang Guo, an ordinary Taiwanese girl, no rich and famous background, no beautiful outer appearance nor outstanding talent. All she had was a kindhearted, innocent, warm and optimistic personality and knew how to be grateful and to treasure what she has. Xiang Yu-ping, with his bicoastal law license was an expert in divorce and inheritance lawsuits. This pair that seemed to have no connection to each other and with totally unsuitable personalities was miraculously bounded by destiny through two children. After Yu-ping’s older brother died in a car accident, Yu-ping had to take in the two orphaned children – Fei and Ting. To make thing worse, every nanny that Yu-ping hired was either scared off by the children or somehow ended up falling in love with Yu-ping. Handsome and gentlemanly interior designer Zhong was a good friend of both Yu-ping and Fan in university. He too once loved Fan deeply but because the person Fan loved was Yu-ping, he did not pursue her although he continued to love her. Zhong was the dream bachelor in everyone’s eyes because his family was very established in both Hangzhou and Shanghai and he was very successful in his own profession and good-looking as well. With that in mind, Fan asked Zhong to pursue Yang Guo in order to destroy any possibility between Yang Guo and Yu-pong. Fan’s plan worked. Yang Guo really thought that Yu-ping and Fan got back together. In her heartbreak, she slowly was moved by Zhong’s gentleness and understanding. When Yu-ping found out that his best friend was dating Yang Guo, although he felt painful, he still hoped that Yang Guo would be happy. Zhong invited Yang Guo to be his assistant in his company. He brought Yang Guo to Hangzhou on a business trip and took the opportunity to introduce her to his mother. His mother found Yang Guo lacking in every way. “Actually real joy is when everyone is happy. I have learnt to view problems with from this perspective.”
In the last episode of [Meteor Garden], an interaction scene was addedfor Shancai and Daomingsi. This caused Barbie Hsu (Big S) to feel veryvexed then as it seemed there were speculations that Jerry’stemperament caused her fear. In fact, many people are also fearful ofher. Yet during the filming of DWL, Jerry seemed to have become more“easy to get along with”. Not only will he pick up his own meal boxduring meal times, but he would also do the sorting of rubbish aftermeals by himself, and even offered to help the crew members carry therail-tracks for filming. He shared, “Now, I have learnt to show concernfor others and to bow even lower.” This statement has thus become aclassic.
R: Your tempers seemed to have changed a fair bit recently?
J: One of the major contributing factors has to be Ella’s influence onme. She is actually very sensible and sentimental. She would treat eachday seriously and do nothing but her best for her work and also treateveryone around her sincerely. Observing her gestures has changed myattitude to others. Not everyone is born like Andy Lau – who knows howto get along with everyone else. But when you learn from Ella to showconcern for others, you would feel happy too. That is a wonderfulfeeling.
R: Earlier on, Ella analysed your character and shared that you are“actually a ‘kai xin guo’ (lit transl: source of happiness, bundle ofjoy), and the extent of your seriousness in work would make one feelsheartache for you. You had only erected the wall because of specialcondition in the past.” Do you agree with her analysis?
J: To be honest, it is quite scary. Not many whom had worked with mecan give such an appropriate analysis. Just a few nights ago when Ifilmed till 2-3 am, she was just sitting somewhere near me and sheoffered me encouragement. At that time, I really was nearly moved totears. Some people, for their own gains, would attempt to hurt others.But not Ella. She would always strive to do her best at work, and makeeveryone around her happy. Such gestures would make you feel that theworld is so beautiful! She would make you feel – I must also be happyand brush away the gloominess of the past…
R: Are you someone who deeply wishes for care and concern from others?
J: It never occurred to me before. But what I wish to say is that, whenwe feel that the going is tough, we can always give each other a hug.These few days, her mood has been affected by something. I just wish towalk into her room to give her an encouraging hug, but yet lack thecourage. Maybe as I am not someone who is proactive hence, sometimeseven when I feel warm and passionate about doing something, but I wouldfeel strange taking initiative.
R: You have always been served by an entourage of crew members?
J: In the past, I have 5-6 crew members following me. But not anymore.Actually like a child born in riches and has been well-protected, heprobably could not understand what it means to be sensible or not. Butone day, when he lost all these protection, the little child wouldstart to empathise and be sensitive to others’ sufferings. When aserial gained popularity, the artistes would be glorified and gainfame. But everyone would neglect the director, cameramen and other crewmembers, even the crew carrying the rail-tracks worked very hard. Inthe past, I was too well-protected by other crew members and did nothave the chance to see others’ sufferings as I am always enjoying theair-conditioning in my dedicated artiste vehicle. But now, when thereare no more crew members attending to me, I remind myself that I can nolong be that spoilt child and should gain a perspective of the biggerworld, and remember everyone’s help to you.
R: One of the crew members shared that you would even take initiative to help crew members carry the rail-track now?
J: It is not a matter of taking initiative. Actually real joy is wheneveryone is happy. I have learnt to view problems with from thisperspective. In the past, we have always been requesting for others toheed our feelings, but when we are able to see others, our work wouldreally become better. The other time when I was in Taiwan and the stagecollapsed during the autograph session, many reporters were perspiringbadly under the hot sun just so to do the interview. I merely passed atissue to one reporter and he was very happy. I had not done thisintentionally, and it is not really a difficult task, but why had itnot occurred to me in the past?
R: How would you view the reporters who write about your gossips and rumours?
J: Perhaps I have not done everything right in the past, thus resultingin their misunderstanding. Like how I said earlier, why do I only seemyself in the past? I hope to be able to see more of others in thefuture.

R: Would you fall for Ella – whom we tend to think of as a “fake little boy”?
J: I would not state restrictions, because matters of the heart comenaturally. I might even fall for a member of the crew. Perhaps when yousee a member of the crew working seriously, you would feel that she isreally attractive! Thus, I would not set restrictions as to who thatspecial girl might be for me.
