RAFA: READING WIN OUR ONLY FOCUS
Rafael Benitez insists he won't have one eye on the crunch clash in Marseille next week when selecting his side to face Reading tonight.
With the must-win match in France followed quickly by Manchester United's visit to Anfield, the Reds are entering a week which could go a long way towards shaping their season.
But Benitez, as ever, is taking things strictly one game at a time with all his focus for now on picking up three points at the Majedski Stadium.
"Our players say they don't know the team before a game," explained Rafa. "But right now I don't know the team. We were training yesterday with two different teams. Everybody was fit, everybody was focused and I will have another look before deciding which players will be in the squad and after that make my team selection.
"It is something that I like to do. It's important for me to analyse each player and decide for each game.
"It's not about rotating or deciding which game is more important; it's thinking about how to win this game with the right players and how to win the next one with the right players.
"We know that if you play Marseille with Champions League qualification at stake it is really important. But everybody is talking about the Premier League so also you need to win against Reading if you want to be in a good position when you play against United.
"So we will try to win this game, then try to win the next one |
