Dua jaringan Rooney bantu MU kejutkan AC Milan
MILAN: Dua jaringan menerusi tandukan Wayne Rooney membantu Manchester United mengejutkan kelab gergasi Itali, AC Milan 3-2 pada perlawanan pertama saingan kalah mati 16 pasukan Liga Juara-Juara Eropah, sebentar tadi.
Pasukan tuan rumah mendahului pada awal minit ke-3 menerusi jaringan Ronaldinho, tetapi United menyamakan kedudukan menerusi rembatan Paul Scholes pada minit ke-36.
Perlawanan di Stadium San Siro yang turut menampilkan bekas pemain United, David Beckham bagaimanapun lebih menyaksikan United mendominasi bola terutama pada babak kedua.
Ini menyaksikan jaringan Rooney hasil hantaran lintang Antonio Velencia dengan Rooney melakukan tandukan mengelirukan.
United yang terus menyerang dengan Darren Fletcher mengumpan bola tinggi di dalam kotak penalti sebelum ditanduk masuk Rooney untuk gol keduanya.
Milan berjaya merapatkan jurang jaringan menerusi Clarence Seedorf.
United dikejutkan apabila pengadil melayangkan kad merah kepada Michael Carrick pada minit terakhir perlawanan dan terlepas peluang beraksi pada saingan kedua di Old Trafford nanti. |

AC Milan-Man United Player Ratings
AC Milan:
Dida: 5
The Brazilian goalie was left stranded by his defence as Wayne Rooney managed to get past Nesta and Thiago Silva to bag a brace in the second half.
Daniele Bonera: 5
The full-back was solid in containing Park Ji-sung in the first half, but failed to stop Rooney in the second half as the forward produced a looping header to beat him and his keeper.
Alessandro Nesta: 4
The veteran centre-half was bamboozled by the younger Rooney as the English hitman broke down his defence and his offside trap to score twice.
Thiago Silva: 4
Stood shell-shocked as Rooney stayed on side to head the ball past his fellow compatriot. Thiago Silva could do nothing more as he was outpaced, out-muscled and out-willed by the burly Englishman.
Luca Antonini: 6
Matched Nani stride-for-stride until he got injured in the 38th minute and had to be replaced by Guiseppe Favalli.
David Beckham (off 72'): 5
Becks didn't really live up to the pre-match hype of being on a 'revenge mission' against his former club. Then again, that may have been our expectations. Golden Balls was decent from set-pieces generally, but shot his one direct free-kick over Van der Sar's goal.
Andrea Pirlo: 5
Didn't have the best of games as Milan couldn't really hold on to possession, but found Huntelaar and Ronaldinho well on two occasions, only for the duo to shoot wide. Pirlo could have scored himself in the second half, but Van der Sar stretched well to tip his free-kick over the bar.
Massimo Ambrosini: 5
Pirlo's fellow partner in the midfield also didn't bring his 'A' game, but his 'C+' game did enough to keep the Rossoneri attacks moving when they did have the ball.
Ronaldinho: 7
Continued his renaissance of form recently in this game, as he danced around Evans and Ferdinand with regularity when Milan had possession. 'Dinho scored his goal in just the third minute after running rings around the defence and unleashing a shot that deflected off Michael Carrick and into the back of the net.
Alexandre Pato: 5
The 'Duck' could not break his duck in this game as his shot sailed over the bar like rugby conversions. Could have scored from a header in the second half but powered the ball into the stands.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (off 77'): 5
The Dutchman was probably the more wasteful of the striking pair as he managed to skew the ball wide after beating Ferdinand to get a one-on-one chance against Van der Sar. The memory of his brace over the weekend is now as distant as his form in the Eredivisie.
Subs:
Filippo Inzaghi (on 77'): 5
The grizzled veteran huffed and puffed, but failed to produce a miracle for the Rossoneri.
Clarence Seedorf (on 72'): 8
The 33-year-old managed to ghost into the Red Devils' penalty area to score an important goal to get the score to 3-2 heading to Old Trafford. Now, Milan do not have a mountain to climb thanks to his supernatural brilliance.
Giuseppe Favalli (on 38'): 5
Could not stop Antonio Valencia as the winger thumped in the cross for Wayne Rooney to score Man United's second.
Manchester United:
Edwin Van der Sar: 6
Could not do anything to stop Ronaldinho's goal as he was wrong-footed by the deflection, but recovered to make good saves, particularly against Pirlo, as he flew to tip the ball over the top right corner of his goal. Van der Sar was later way out of position to stop Seedorf's late, late goal as well.
Rafael Da Silva (off 90'): 6
Seemed to be shoved around by the likes of Ronaldinho and Ambrosini, but showed a mean streak as the game progressed, diving into tackles regularly.
Rio Ferdinand: 5
Seems like the England captain has not totally recovered from his injuries, or the memory of it, as he was a step slow against the Rossoneri. Ferdinand certainly missed the presence of Nemanja Vidic as his gambles to win the ball from Huntelaar and Pato resulted in him getting beaten for pace.
Jonny Evans: 5
The young centre-back was totally lost out there as he contributed in the Red Devils' sloppy defending, failing to stay with his man on some occasions.
Patrice Evra: 5
Could not defend well, could not attack well. What else is there that Evra could excel in?
Nani (off 64'): 5
After some promising performance of late, prompting Sir Alex Ferguson to say that the winger "had come of age", Nani regressed in this game, spraying crosses into touch and lost the ball regularly in the final third. Were those great games of his a false dawn?
Michael Carrick: 5
Did well to link up the defence and attack, but was, unfortunately, on the receiving end to deflect Ronaldinho's shot into goal. Carrick was later sent off for a rash tackle as well in stoppage time.
Paul Scholes: 7
For Carrick's bad fortune, Manchester United received some good karma in the form of Scholes' equaliser for the Red Devils. The veteran midfielder swung out his right foot in an attempt to volley Fletcher's cross home and he missed, but the ball bounced off his left shin and rolled into the back of the net!
Darren Fletcher: 7
One of the better performers for the Red Devils, and his pin-point crosses first found the shin of Scholes for United's equaliser, then the head of Rooney for United's third.
Park Ji-sung: 6
The South Korean was his usual hard-working self, but his work-ethic wasn't really enough to crack open the Milan defence.
Wayne Rooney: 9
What a difference a half makes. Virtually marked out of the game by Nesta and Thiago Silva in the first half, Rooney returned with a vengeance, scoring twice on headers in the 66th and the 74th minute to give Man United the edge going back to Old Trafford.

Wes Brown (on 90'): NA
No time to strut his stuff.
Antonio Valencia (on 64'): 7
Came on and had an instant impact as he floated a cross for Wayne Rooney to take the lead. Valencia injected pace on the right flank and, more importantly, provided crosses that actually met their targets.
