Selangor 2-0 Kelantan: Red Giants hit checkmate as Bojan's men continue to struggle
The impressive Red Giants sealed an impeccable 2-0 victory over their close rivals Kelantan in what was a pulsating encounter at the Shah Alam Stadium
The match kicked off on a rather predictable note as both sides played safe by not venturing forward too much. Possession was being lost scrappily in the middle of the park but Selangor slowly began to assert themselves. K. Soley was gliding everywhere accross the pitch, while Izuan Salahuddin looked very lively down the right flank for Kelantan.
Nevertheless, Selangor took the lead deservedly with their first solid chance of the match as Ramzul Zaini found himself unmmarked down the left wing. He curled in an inch-perfect cross into the Kelantan box and Francis Forkey Doe headed it into the goal brilliantly to give the Red Giants a 1-0 lead.
Minutes later, S. Veenod broke down the right flank for Selangor and the Red Giants had men inside the Kelantan box, ready to pounce on any ball coming their way. However, Veenod fluffled his cross and instilled too much power into it sailed pass everyone. Obinna then wasted a key chance as he headed Zairo's corner kick cross a little wide off the post.
But the Red Giants doubled their lead on the 26th minute through another set-piece as Mahali's corner kick attempt met Ramez Dayoub's head and the Lebanese defender made no mistakes by slotting home and sent their fans into raptures. Obinna wasted yet another chance as he headed a cross straight onto the post, but the half time whistle was blown with Selangor leading 2-0.
After the break, Kelantan brought on Badri Radzi and Keita Mandjou with hopes of sparking a revival. It almost made instant impact though as Badri Radzi played through a brilliant through pass for Keita Mandjou although the ex-Perak forward could only fire a tame shot towards Norazlan.
In the 60th minute, Daudsu fired a long range attempt way over the bar before Francis Forkey Doe found Shukor Jusoh with a delightful through ball but the midfielder was deemed to be offside. 10 minutes later, Forkey Doe himself jinked past two defenders before poking through a shot towards the goal. Nevertheless, Khairul Fahmi was quick enough to tip it away.
Both sides contested a rather even game in the second half but Kelantan ultimately failed to break down the defence of Selangor, who were top class today. Ramez Dayoub in particular, was impressive with his clearances and his demonstrated it with a last ditch clearance tackle on Faiz Subri towards the end of the game.
The score remained in favour of Selangor until the end and the Red Giants will be delighted with this morale-boosting victory that sends them to the top of the table. As for the Red Warriors, they apparent lack of goals is definitely a cause for concern. |

Selangor - Kelantan Preview : Red Giants gunning for a win against toothless Warriors
Selangor host Kelantan after a three-week break in an anticipated electrifying encounter set to be witnessed by a packed Shah Alam stadium
Both teams will be looking for a fresh restart to the campaign after some road bumps just before the international break.
Selangor were dealt with injury blows to many key players that threatened to scupper their bright start.
S. Kunalan, K. Gurusamy and Bunyamin Umar were all crocked recipients on the treatment table, so the three-week break was a resbite for the Red Giants to mend their players.
The good news for Selangor is that Kunalan is almost fit and could feature against Kelantan, while K. Gurusamy made a cameo against Sabah and could also be restored into the starting line-up.
Irfan Bakti will bank on striker Forkey Doe to continue his goalscoring exploits, after the Liberian scored a brace against Sabah in the FA Cup.
As for Kelantan, their problems lie in attack, where the Red Warriors are nothing short of toothless - having scored only three goals to date.
The loss of Muhammad Ghaddar and Norshahrul is still felt, while the likes of Zairo Annuar and Keita Mandjou have yet to step up to the mantle.
This match is set to be a cracking one nonetheless, with both sides eager to pick up as many points early in the season.
Selangor have the home advantage but Kelantan have that 'never-say-die-attitude' that keeps burning till the final whistle.
Expect goals in this game as both sides will sacrifice defence to get a win.
The game is most likely to end in a 2-2 draw. |

Kelantan want to sign Burkina Faso striker Aristide Bance
Kelantan are looking to sign Burkina Faso international striker Aristide Bance in order to strengthen their team
The Red Warriors have lacked goals in the first few games of the season, leading to Tan Sri Annuar Musa saying that he is prepared to bring in an import striker from Africa when the transfer windows opens in April.
Speaking to Sinar Harian, Annuar said: "This player still has a contract with his club. I just received a scouting report two days ago and early negotiations have started. If the deal goes through, we will re-arrange which of our import players are to play in the [Malaysian] Super League and the AFC Cup.
"We have not made any decisions on Aristide Bance yet because it will costs us a lot of money if we were to bring him to Kelantan," he added.
Bance was on international duty with Burkina Faso in the recent African Cup of Nations where his country finished runners-up to champions Nigeria. |
