SIBU: University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) will hold its ‘2015 Open Day with UCTS Brand Ambassadors’ on April 11-12 in conjunction with its latest appointment of popular singer Hafiz Suip as its ambassador.
Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee will grace the appointment ceremony scheduled for April 11 at 9am.
Some 250 Bumiputera students from various secondary schools here have been invited to the function, via Sibu Bumiputera Graduates Association.
Among the side-events is a Public Charity Anti-drug Performance at 7pm at Kingwood Hotel on April 11.
It is jointly organised by Sibu United Chinese Association, Sibu Municipal Council and Association of Churches Sarawak (ACS).
Vice chancellor of UCTS Prof Dato Dr Abdul Hakim Juri told a press conference yesterday that the performance was part of UCTS’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) towards preventing youths from involvement in drugs.
He is expecting 3,500 people to turn up for the performance. Admission is free.
Local Government and Community Development Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, Sibu Municipal Council chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King, Sarawak UCA president Dr Wong Aik Loung, Sibu UCA president Ting Huat Chie and ACS youth adviser Pastor Ting Leh Na are expected to be among the prominent figures in the audience.
Other events include the launching of UCTS sponsorship, anti-drug performance show from Charis Youth and performance by Nick Chung and Stella Chung.
On April 12, there will be a photo shoot with Hafiz (indoor and outdoor), Nick and Stella meet-the-fans as well as a two-hour programme by RTM ‘Jelajah Singgah Lokasi’.
A blood donation exercise, an exhibition, games and competitions, a karaoke session and a photo contest are also on the cards.
Present at yesterday’s press conference was UCTS senior manager (corporate and marketing) Lu Yew King.
