Spurs lead race for Hornets ace    Mon, 15 Jan 2007 17:53

Tottenham are favourites to sign Ashley Young from Watford after the player turned down the chance to sign for West Ham.

Young has become one of the most sought after youngsters in the Premiership following his performances for the Hornets this season and Spurs along with a host of other clubs are chasing his signature.

West Ham thought they had stolen a march on their rivals after they had a

Roeder: "Luque has to fight"Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder has laid down the gauntlet to striker Albert Luque, telling the Spaniard he has to fight for a place in the starting XI.
Luque has failed to fit in at St James Park since his move from Deportivo La Coruna in 2005 - he has netted just once in the Premiership, and only twice more in other competitions - but the Catalan was hoping he had found a way to end his nightmare when PSV Eindhoven expressed an interest in signing him.
But Roeder has confirmed that deal has fallen through, and instead has asked the 28-year-old to dig in and concentrate on playing well for Newcastle.
"After a decision made at the highest levels of both clubs, Albert Luque will not be going to PSV Eindhoven," Roeder told the club's official website.
"He has to put PSV out of his mind. I know what it is like when a player sets his heart on joining another club and the move does not happen.
"They become despondent, but I will not accept any despondency around the Newcastle United training ground.
"He has to accept the decision - the club's decision, not mine. There is nothing he can do about it and there is nothing I can do about it.
"Now he has to get his head down and work for this football club."

ari tu cakap kata surplus requirement, tak paham haku roeder nih :jeling:

Campo slams "ridiculous" Athletic offerBolton midfielder Ivan Campo has claimed Athletic Bilbao made a "ridiculous" offer to lure him to San Mames. The player also confirmed the intention signalled by his agent to stay at Bolton and not move back to Spain.
Campo, 31, had been expected to return to La Liga after more than four successful seasons with the Trotters and, as a Basque, Athletic were mooted as the ideal option.
But in an interview with "El Diaro Vasco", the former Spain international said that while he considered the move the offer on the table was not one he could consider.
"Athletic did interest me but to be honest the offer that they made me was pretty ridiculous," he said.
"So after so much negotiating regarding this transfer, I said to the boss that I'm staying."
Campo started his career at Alaves before moving to Valencia, where he failed to make the grade. Afer a successful season at Mallorca he was transferred to Real Madrid where he never really established himself as a first-team regular befor Sam Allardyce snapped him up in 2002.
Initially a central defender, Campo has found his best position as a defensive midfielder for Bolton and his a candidate for goal of the season with his 43-yard strike against Tottenham in August.
From San Sebastian, he was linked with a move to Real Sociedad during the summer transfer window, but candidly admitted that then-boss Jose Mari Bakero rejected the proposed transfer.
"I was available and I had the dream of going home, but at the end Bakero told me that no, I wasn't the type of player they required.
"I would really like to play for a team in my city," he continued. "But maybe it is not to be and the Premiership must come first."

Liverpool Offer Deal For Mascherano From West Ham
Submitted by Neville Nixon on 16 January, 2007 - 12:48.
Liverpool have applied to FIFA to waive the rule preventing a footballer playing for more than two clubs in one season in the case of Javier Mascherano. MSI who own the Argentine International's registration, are believed to be using the restriction of practice law as they believe that their player is being prevented from playing by not being allowed to move to Anfield from the Boleyn.
Intriguingly, Sami Hypia might be offered in a part exchange deal, Hammers need for a strong experienced defender is more than obvious given the current injury crisis, but would he want to move to a club fighting relegation?
Recently sidelined with a hamstring injury, Hypia is one of Rafael Benitez's stalwarts, but at 34 years old he could be sacrificed to bring Masherano to Liverpool along with a fee of around
