ENglish penting, kat office mac ni..... ada manager melayu ni rajin sangat, and very proactive.... kiranya ada tokohla nak ganti big boss.... tapi apakan daya, setiap kali namanya naik, setiap kali pula iannya ditolak atas alasan English lemah......

mac keje company mat salleh.... walaupun mat salleh tak ramai sangat tapi selalu kena interact dgn mat2 salleh kat overseas tu....

Bila english lemah.... dia ada problemla nak sampaikan idea yg ada kat kepala dia tu. walaupun dia boleh cakap english... tapi nak mengexplain tu satu2 project tu.... mak ai.... jenuh kita orang nak tunggu dia cakap.... malu pun ada.... tak pasal2 benda yg boleh explain in 10 mins tu ambil masa 1/2 jam.....

that's quite true... but they can communicate in English... deliver and understand the messages... if the grads cannot even express themselves in english during the interview... what do you expect....

ana punya english pun tak hebat.... tapi tak da masalah nak communicate dgn my former bosses yg terdiri dari mat sallehs dari England, Canada, Australia, Belgium.... yg paling teruk Briton & Australia.... slanga dia... perh.... tak faham ...

aku almost setuju la ngan all the opinion kat kat topic ni...english is important but if you have extra language ability is really big advantage.I still remember when I attended one interivew, the manager who interview me said that "I take working here is not because you have a degree but becouse of your ability expecially your language ability".
so nasihat saya for fresh graduate, sila2 la improve your english n searching some ability that can make company easily to take you as their employee.
my english olso not very good coz I'm graduate from non english speaking country. I grad from japan working also with japanese company but for my future  I must improve my english coz lepas ni igt nak gi international company.....

:setuju: bukannyer org expect smpi tahap 'sasterawan negara' english tu..

yang penting org faham apa yg kita nk sampaikan ... kalau kita tulis dan cakap org tak faham... payah sikit lah.

Kalau ada minat nak mendalami this language, mesti boleh punya. I come from family yg takde reti nak cakap English, yet until now, people still ask me questions eg. did u go to overseas uni? Are ur parents fluent in English? Are u teaching English in school? Because masa belajar dulu, me really interested with the language itself. So bila dah minat, mesti ada kemahuan untuk belajar kan? And then bila dah belajar, u mesti la confident untuk menuturkan bahasa tersebut.

Alhamdulillah, after years and years of practice, mesti jadi fluent punya. Ada juga orang kata kita ni kerek bila cakap in English, but who the hell cares? In fact, it made my life so much easier. People pun pandang kita nampak confident jer...

Now I'm teaching in a daily secondary school, and the subject I'm teaching is now 100% in English since early of this year. So far so good, it's even better to teach engineering subject in English coz most of the terms pun asalnya dari English juga. Most of my friends are having probs to cope with the changes, so these affects the outcome of teaching. Kalau cikgu pun tak confident nak ajar in English, then how about the students?

Because of this, I started teaching my daughter to speak in English since her early days. Coz she's born a Malay, she will definitely be good in her mother tongue but English ni bukan bahasa ibunda dia, so kena ajar dari awal lagi, baru dia cepat fluent. Alhamdulillah, I'm proud to say that, at the age of three, she's doing quite good. Later, I'll send her to Islamic Montessori yang menggunakan English medium.

Hmm..Lemah pemahaman ni because of the words or the sentences... Sebenarnya, apa2 pun berpunca dari pembacaan. That's why ayat yg pertama diturunkan to Nabi Muhammad pun bermaksud bacalah. Bila banyak pembacaan, lama2 kita akan pandai mentafsir maksud ayat/karangan tersebut and apa mesej yang cuba dibawa oleh penulis. This is thru my own experience. My mom is a librarian di Angkasapuri, so she always brought back magazines such as Times, Massa, Reader's Digest etc. Mula2 dulu pun saya ada probs untuk memahami maksud sesuatu ayat. So everytime baca these mags, I had  my trusted dictionary next to me. Alhamdulillah, it helped me a lot. Apa2 pun, kena rajin banyak and consistent with what you do, baru nampak hasilnya. :ah:

Eh, I hope I've answered ur question... Mana la tahu pemahaman I berbeza.... :bgrin:

mamailya...

Betul la tu.... actually mac maksudkan paper BM1 untuk sekolah rendah - Pemahaman. Untuk Penulisan selalu budak melayu no problem.

Tapi whatever it is, your answer tu betul la sangat2....  the answer is banyakkan MEMBACA.

I cannot fathom this obsession with competentcy in English among employers. The first quality they should look for in an employee is creativity and the ability to learn. After the candidate is hired, he will have to be retrained anyway.

penghapusan bahasa melayu secara sistematik?
hehehe ... im not against usage of English Language neither to support it ..
tapi rasa aku payah nak keep balance kalau everthing is in english .. tengok aje laa anak2 singapore ... lebih selesa cakap bahasa inggeris berbanding bahasa melayu ... 10 or 20 years from now ... Bahasa Melayu is just another ancient language ... sama cam latin atau lain2 bahasa suku ...
kita ni dulu tunduk kepada omputeh .. sbb daripada segi fizikal dan pentadbiran ...
skang ni kita tunduk sebbnya kalau x belajar bahasa inggeris ... syarikat kita duk tu akan hilang client yg mostly orang puteh ....

Japanese mmg tegar .. even undergrads depa buruk gile bahasa inggeris .. sama cam bebudak secondary school kita yg belajar bahasa inggeris ... still ... bila keja kat international company .. diterima ..atas dasar skills ngan budaya keja .... sampaikan orang puteh pun ramai belajar bahasa jepun ...

kita? dah la bahasa melayu skang ni tercemar dengan pelbagai pencabulan bahasa slanga ... dah tu ... ajar la pulak anak2 kita menjiwai inggeris ....atas dasar kang bila besar ... keja x de masalah ...

personally ... aku rasa ... kita la satu2 bangsa ... yg perlahan2 membunuh .. bahasa dan budaya sendiri ...
bermula dengan pakaian harian .. penggunaan songkok vs cap ... selampang berbanding tali leher ... baju melayu berbanding dunhill gucci dan giordano ... minyak attar berbanding giorgio armani ..
oh well ... apa ada pada bangsa anyway?

ermmm..

actually setiap satu bender tu ader baik ader buruk nyer...
tapi Allah beri kiter akal.. and kalo ingat.dlm subjek pendidikan Islam ader gak diajar satu konsep.. "kesederhanaan"...
So, tak salah rasernyer kalo kiter belajar enggeris smpai mahir.. dlmmase yg same bahase melayu tidak dilupe hehhee..
aku nak story citer tentang 2 org adik aku kat oversea.. sorang kat Indon.. sorang kat US.. kedua2nyer menghadapi masalah kecik yg agak sama...

biler kat dlm rumah/hostel or dlm kelompok student malaysia... diorang seboley2 nak converse kat dlm bahase melayu... tapi biler diorang ni pegi keluar (pegi kedai..kuliah..etc).. yg melibatkan pergaulan ngan masyarakat tempatan.. diroang secarae automatik akan bercakap dlm bahase tempatan (english/indon)..... boley AutoTune plak hehehe...

adik aku kat indon cakap.. walaupun indon paham cakap kiter.. tapi diorang akan gelakkan budak2 m'sia nih kalo tak cakap indon ngan diorang hehehe... so.. nak tak nak.. adik aku terpakser la cakap indon gak utk elak dari kener gelak kuikuikui...
