Arsenal v Liverpool Carling Cup Preview
Midfielder Samir Nasri and goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski could make their first appearances of the season following injury in Arsenal’s Carling Cup fourth-round tie against Liverpool.
Arsenal fans can expect to see a mixture of experience and youth, with the experience of Philippe Senderos and Mikael Silvestre balanced with the youth of Carlos Vela, Sanchez Watt, who scored in the last round against West Brom, Fran Merida, Aaron Ramsey, along with England Under-21 duo Kieran Gibbs and Jack Wilshere could all feature.

Prediction:
This will be an interesting game because you have an experienced Liverpool side coming off a huge win on Sunday, against a youthful, but inexperienced Arsenal side. Liverpool will attempt to play football here and that will help Arsenal’s kids. I am looking for Arsenal to win this one 2-1 in an exciting game. |

Carlos Vela ahead of tonight’s game against Liverpool, “This one is clearly special”
Not even on the bench for Sunday’s game against West Ham United, Mexico International Carlos Vela will make sure to shine tonight when Arsenal face Liverpool in their fourth round, Carling Cup game.
The 20-year old declared how important the game is for the young ones and that the competition should not be taken lightly, as many believe.
Speaking to Arsenal TV Online, Vela said:
It’s going to be important to play against this team [Liverpool] in this game. I believe that every match I play for my team Arsenal is special for me and I don’t really care that much who we play, I just want to win. It could be a second division team, whoever, I just really want to win. This one is clearly special, because of the team we play against so it is important.
This competition is very important for all the young players. It is not a reserves or lower league competition, so we have the opportunity to prove ourselves at a high level and that is always the test for a player. It also means that the younger players can use this competition to show the boss what they have learned and what they can do if the get an opportunity in the first team.
We have players like Mikael Silvestre and Philippe Senderos who have a lot of experience. In our case, what really counts is the desire and hunger of the young players to help us win these games. |
