Official: Richard Dunne Finally Completes Aston Villa Switch
The former City skipper is set for a new chapter in his career...
Aston Villa have completed the signing of Richard Dunne from Manchester City, nearly 20 hours after the transfer window closed.
The Birmingham based outfit confirmed the deal had been completed on their official website.
The proposed move was agreed before yesterday's five o'clock deadline but confirmation of it was postponed after ratification of the paperwork was held up.
However the move has now been confirmed by the Premier League and Sky Sports News reports the deal could be worth as much as £6 million.
The former City skipper wrote himself into the history books of the Eastlands outfit after being voted fans player of the year for an impressive four successive seasons.
However Dunne's form stumbled after the arrival of mega money at Manchester City and the captures of centre backs Kolo Toure and Joleon Lescott signalled the end of his City career.
Dunne signed on at City in October 2000 for £3m and has clocked up 290 league appearances and 55 more cup games.
Villa manager Martin O'Neill has been searching for an experienced centre-back after captain Martin Laursen retired through injury at the end of last season.
The new arrival at Villa Park, who turns 30 next month, will bring years of Premier League experience with him as he attempts to help Villa build on last season's sixth place finish. |

According to boffins studying first-person shooter Unreal Tournament 2004, gamers have more of a chance of being on the winning side if they choose to play as a red team member as opposed to blue.
The team of scientists, led by Mihai Moldovan from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, studied the outcomes of 1,347 matches between "elite" teams. The characters for the two teams would be shown to be wearing red or blue, depending on their side.
It would seem to be a detail that would be of little consequence to winning, but the scientists have found otherwise. Based on a 50/50 split, the red team won 55 percent of the time, reports AP, citing the Cyberpsychology & Behaviour journal.
Moldovan said that he believed the reason behind this was that the colour red acts as a "psychological distractor" to men.
Scientists have also found that wearing the colour red seems to give players an advantage in real-life sports. A report by Durham University academics studied four combat sports at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games: boxing, tae kwon do, Greco-Roman wrestling, and freestyle wrestling. They found that across all four, those who were donned in red won significantly more fights.
However, Mark Rein, the vice president of Unreal Tournament 2004 creator Epic Games said that the company wouldn't be making any changes to the game in response to the findings. He said, "While this is really an interesting analysis, the notion of red team versus blue team has been ingrained in the Unreal Tournament series for years. We don't anticipate any immediate changes to team colours."

Sylvinho: Robinho very happy at City
Brazilian ace Robinho is more than happy with life at Manchester City according to compatriot Sylvinho.
Sylvinho became a part of the Eastlands revolution before Tuesday's transfer window slammed shut, and in doing so linked up with his fellow Samba ace, a player who, in recent weeks, has been heavily linked with a return to Spain.
Robinho, a £32.5million signing from Primera Liga giants Real Madrid just over a year ago was thought to be on the verge of a sensational move to Barcelona earlier this week, but Barca boss Pep Guardiola was quick to reject any prospect of the Catalan side making a move for the City striker.
The 25-year-old was allegedly upset by the transfer of close friend Elano to Turkish outfit Fenerbache this summer and speculation over his future escalated last weekend when City boss Mark Hughes named Robinho as a substitute for City trip to Portsmouth.
However, despite all the rumours, Sylvinho is adamant that Robinho is going absolutely nowhere.
"This club can help Robinho a lot," he told the Manchester Evening News.
"I didn't speak to him before I came here, I just spoke to him after I arrived last week.
"He told me he is really happy. He is enjoying it because he has scored so many goals.
"He is one of the top players in the world and it is really important to him how the club is moving forward, how it is changing.
"He is really happy that the club has now got Emmanuel Adebayor and Carlos Tevez, because that helps him a lot.
"It puts the club on a different level, and it does the same for Robinho. He is one of the best players in Brazil and plays for the national team, so this kind of help will be really important to him."
