Arsenal target Gregory van der Wiel
Arsenal have been linked with a move for Ajax right-back Gregory van der Wiel.
According to the Mirror, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has sent his scouts to cast a keen eye over the 21-year-old.
Van der Wiel reportedly first came to the attention of Wenger when the Frenchman was courting Belgium international Thomas Vermaelen, who completed an £8.5 million move from Ajax this summer.
Van der Wiel has already broken into the Dutch national team and has caught the eye of a number of Spanish clubs - most notably Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.
Last night Arsenal let a 1-0 lead slip to draw 1-1 with AZ alkmaar in the Champions League.
The visitors took the lead through midfielder Cesc Fabregas in the 36th minute. But Alkmaar went on the offensive in the last 20 minutes and were finally rewarded when David Mendes da Silva salvaged a point for the home side.
Arsenal remain top of the group with seven points, while Alkmaar have moved into third with two points.
"The late equaliser feels great as we know exactly how it feels to concede a late one," AZ coach Ronald Koeman said.
"It was our mistakes that caused Arsenal's chances and the opening goal," Koeman added.
"They were controlling the match but did not have many chances."
Wenger was left to rue his side's lack of killer instinct in front of goal.
"In bigger parts of the game we were superior and in control but as long you don't score a second goal you know they always can find their way back into the match," Wenger said.
"I felt that they could only score with a set piece situation and that is what happened." |
