Kim Rae Won was discharged from military service on Monday, August 22nd, with a simple announcement from his management company but no ceremonial event.
The actor’s agency Bless Entertainment told local media that Kim has successfully completed his two-year mandatory service after his entry into the Nonsan training camp in 2009. He returns to civilian life on Tuesday, August 23rd. Kim is expected to begin work for the upcoming SBS drama “A Thousand Days’ Promise,” in which he plays the lead role opposite Su Ae.
“A Thousand Days’ Promise,” written by famed scenarist Kim Soo Hyun, is about a woman who is slowly losing her memory. The drama replaces current Monday-Tuesday ratings winner, the Yoo Seung Ho-starring historical drama “Warrior Baek Dong Soo” from September 26th.

Kim Rae Won models for ‘UNICEF’
Actor Kim Rae Won has officially started activities as a promotional model for UNICEF after being discharged from the military.
According to UNICEF, Kim Rae Won was quietly discharged on August 23rd upon his request, and on that very day, he went straight to the studio to shoot for UNICEF’s Fall Catalog.
His decision to promote UNICEF as his first activity had a meaningful reason behind it. Ever since Kim Rae Won was appointed as a special representative of UNICEF back in October 2007, he has participated in various UNICEF charity events, filmed promotional videos, became a model for promotional merchandise, and avidly contributed to the UNICEF project.
The collection of T-shirts, cards, and mufflers introduced in this catalog will be sold by UNICEF to assist less fortunate children around the world.
After completing the catalog shoot, Kim Rae Won stated “Now that I’ve finished my mandatory military service, I can participate more in activities to help UNICEF. Next year, I really want to go visit foreign organizations and volunteer“.
Meanwhile, Kim Rae Won will be making his comeback through new SBS drama, ‘A Thousand Days’ Promise‘, which is scheduled for its first broadcast on September 26th.
