Little India riot: Complete ban on alcohol in Race Course Road area this coming weekend
There will be a complete ban on the sale and consumption of alcohol this coming weekend in the Race Course Road area where a riot broke out in Little India on Sunday night, Second Minister for Home Affairs S Iswaran told reporters on Monday evening.
The details of the ban, such as exactly what time it will apply and what geographical area it will cover, will be worked out by the police, Mr Iswaran said in response to queries.
Though it is too early to say definitively what caused the riot - which was triggered after a fatal traffic accident - it is "plausible that alcohol consumption was a contributory factor", he added. "And that is why we have taken this step in the first instance in order to stabilise the situation."

How you think your government plan to compensate vendors selling alcohol....when they are ban from selling on weekends? A definite loss of income for them from the sales of alcohol?

Why deprived and I impose ban on others from purchasing alcohol...just because of the 24 idiots?
I am sure the spore govern are smarter than this.......

Yes...the vendor already telling the govt to compensate their future loss. And the vendor are mostly small provision shops & coffee shops. At the moment its temporary only just for this weekend. But our govt are firm...once they decided and the residents agree, thats it...bungkus la vendor2 kecik that depend on liquor sales.

But restaurants are different. Guest drink at their outlet... I suppose big restaurants, they might be able to keep their licences. We talking abt small provision shops....where these people can buy liquor at $9.90 a bottle....then lepak at park.

Currently yes....because of the riots. But like I said...its only for this weekend and only at little india. We are looking into area on how to solve the problem we are facing at little india. Is that a problem to you??

Nak engage enforcement officers in triple numbers or more on rounds during the weekends...would have translated into cost...so what is the next best thing to do? Ban the sale and the consumption of alcohol at the congregation area....?

Tak tau dah jadi melayu ke tidak. Pokok nya Lee Kuan yew boleh terima kita boyan, jawa, bugis. Yang tak boleh terima hakikat nya hanya la orang2 malaysia seperti kamu
