Maxis Board Band ..Careful
Answers to your questions:
- The modem is offered on a rental basis, even after the contract period. The ownership of the modem remains with Maxis. As such, we continue to charge the full amount of RM 68 per month
- On your lock-in on contracts, we will remain flexible in your case. If you want to terminate any contract, please approach Mr. Ratna or me. We will allow you to get out without penalty.
Best regards,
I have tried to be very transparent on ourbusiness logic. If you do not believe in our logic and think that we want totake advantage of you, please feel free to terminate the service at any time. Iassure you that we will not enforce any contract in your case.
With respect to the pricing, I continue tobelieve that RM 68 is the best deal in the market.
Regarding your service problems, this is definitelya major concern to us. We believe that this is a coverage issue of yourspecific location due to increasing overall network traffic, and we are tryingto fix it through the outdoor antenna installation. The installation isawaiting your suggestion on a suitable day and time. I am afraid, but if thisis not agreeable to you, then you might be better off with not continuing withour service.
Let me know your decision.
Best regards,
- The modem rental is independent from the contract period. The contract period only defines the time the customer needs to stay with us, so that we are able to provide him the service at lower access charges. As such, if a customer continues to use the service after 18 months, the charges remain as before. However, after 18 months, the customer now has the opportunity to terminate the service at any time. If the customer terminates, he/she has to return the modem to us.
Moreover, through this rental model we are offering a continuing warranty on the modem after the 18 months contract, i.e., even if customers have a problem after 18 months, we will repair/replace the modem.
We are not asking customers to return the modem after 18 months, if they want to continue the service. They only have to return the modem, if they cancel the service.
- Why does the modem not belong to the customer after the contract?
This approach allows usto offer continuing warranty on the modem even after the contract period, i.e.,we will take the responsibility of repairing/replacing the modem, if it is faulty. In addition, there were some import tax implications pertaining to wirelessbroadband modems in the past (DSL modems were treated differently). When we broughtin the modems, we could get import tax exemption as long as we were not sellingthe modems. The rental model overcome this and allowed us to pass on the savingsto our consumers. The legislation of this is currently being changed.

Subject: Wires Less Board BandModem
I find out some problemas below :_
1) After finish 18 months contract , the wires less board band modem are belongto customers?
Calculation for statement as below_
Your modem installment is RM18 * 18 = Rm 324.00 is modem pricing.
In you statement and contract are status 18 months contract for installmentmodem and service.
RM 18 for 18 months is modem installment = RM 324-00
RM 50 for 18 months is Access Fees
According to contract, after finish 18 months for the modem are belong to customerbecause customer are finish the modem installment.
After finish 18 months, customer only to pay access fees RM50-00 if he or shewant to continue use it. The purpose for 18 months contract is to installmentthe ZTE modem pricing.
Example some service provided :
www.izzi.com.my
What is the Mr Nasri ( Customer Service ) told me, after 18 months --- the modem still belong to Maxis, why he say so?
Why Customer have to pay RM 18 * 18 months is for what purpose? Why Maxis havecontract to customer 18 months and what is the purpose for 18 months?
Same thing to USB modem:_
3.6M Is RM 98-00
Modem Installment is RM 40
Total is RM 138-00 for 18 months.
Calculation
RM40*18 months is RM 720 is a USB modem pricing . Why customer service informcustomer after finish18 months contract have to return USB modem to Maxis?
Consumer already pay installment RM 720.00 for 18 months to the USB modem. Themarket pricing for USB modem is from RM 599 - RM 699.
Why have 18 contract?
Please advise it...
Thanks |

It Maxis Board Band are good offer in market?
Here my responses:
- Why 18 months contract?
To deliver Maxis Broadband, we have invested in a significant network upgrade and bought the modems. To offer the service to customers at an affordable rate, we have chosen to base it on a contract model. This will allow us to earn a predictable income over a certain period that generates sufficient returns on our investment and allows us to continue to invest in further upgrades.
If we did not have the contract model, we would have had to charge customers >RM 500 for the device and probably align the broadband charges with our mobile data charges of RM 99 per month. We don抰 believe this is an attractive model to consumers and have, therefore, opted for the contract model that allows us to lower the charges to customers. As such, we are able to offer RM 68 per month. This is cheaper than another WBB provider where you get a similar rate but you have to pay >RM 500 for the modem.
- Why do customers still have to pay modem rental after 18 months?
The modem rental is independent from the contract period.
- Will Maxis also offer services without a contract period?
We are looking into this. This would mean customers can buy any device of their own choice, but are likely to be charged a premium over the fee they would have to pay in a contract model. The challenge with this model is that the quality of wireless broadband coverage is not predictable for a specific location. So, if a customer buys a device, but the service doesn抰 work well in his/her location, he/she has spent money unnecessarily. In our current contract and rental model, he/she can return the modem within a 7 day period without any charges. We believe this is better for the customer.
As modem prices are falling, we are also considering shorter contract periods, but I cannot indicate a decision at this stage.
- Is Maxis enforcing the contracts for customers

Careful in Maxis Wires Less Contract---- Victim?
Sorry, you might have misunderstood. Youdo not have to return the modem after 18 months unless you want to terminatethe service. You can continue using it (and we will continue charging the sameamount). However, after 18 months, customers are free to terminate the serviceat any time, but would need to return the modem to Maxis. It is a rental, not apurchase, of the modem, combined with a minimum contract period of 18 months.
All Maxis modem after finish 18 months are belong to Maxis included USB and WIFI. Yours agree from Maxis? :@

Maxis are hide some cost in Wires Less Board Band
You have sing up 18 months contract.
You terminate home voice are triger agaisnt the contract.
After finish contract 18 months, all modem are belong to Maxis.
system always down time
We regret the problems you haveencountered. In fact, the last 2 days have been impacted by a major fiber cutdue to road constructions. This doesn抰 make up for the problems, only explainsit.
Just learned that one of our key international links (provided by a
global international carrier) is down since yesterday evening. As a
result, capacity has been restricted, causing the browsing issues you
described.
We are working on it with the carrier and will advise once fixed.
Network are sharing
Please be reminded that wireless broadbandis a shared bandwidth. Speeds depend on how many users simultaneously accessthe network in a particular site at the same time. As such you will get timesof high peak speeds, but also times of lower speeds. It is technically notfeasible to guarantee speeds with any wireless broadband solution.
We are still investigating why your area mighthave been particularly affected last week. We did not have any significantnetwork issues and are still unclear what might have caused it. At a minimum, you should be able to get higher peak speeds than what you reported. |
