LIVERPOOL TARGET £5M SCOTT SINCLAIR

LIVERPOOL have made an offer for £5m rated Swansea striker Scott Sinclair.

The former Chelsea forward has caught the eye of Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish.

Sinclair would be seen as an ideal signing as he can play out wide as well as up front.

Dalglish is looking to bolster his attacking options before the transfer window slams shut at the end of the month.

His side have struggled for goals this season, having scored just 24 goals in 21 Premier League matches.

Despite the lack of goals, Dalglish remains publicly supportive of Andy Carroll.

The Liverpool boss maintains he is happy with Carroll's application and believes the striker is proving his commitment to the team ethos.

The club's £35million record signing's performance in last week's 1-0 Carling Cup semi-final first-leg victory at Manchester City came in for some criticism because of his ineffectiveness.

Carroll squandered a golden chance to put his side ahead in the fifth minute and flashed a long-range header wide of the far post later on.

Dalglish said: "Andy worked fantastically hard for us and sacrificed himself for the sake of the team."

Liverpool Transfer News: 10 Youngsters Who Could Bring Life to Dalglish's Lineup

Xherdan Shaqiri

Basel midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri has made a splash in the Swiss top flight and has been linked with moves to Manchester United and Galatasaray in Turkey.

The Switzerland international is growing into his own and an average of seven goals and just under 10 assists a season are great numbers for a midfielder to add to the offense.

Mario Goetze

Mario Goetze has been hailed as the Germany version of Lionel Messi and the Reds could use their own Lionel Messi as their offense has been flat this season.

Despite creating a high number of shots per match, the quality of the shots has not been worthy of the numbers. A player of Goetze's mold could help open up more positive attempts on goal.

Angel Di Maria

Real Madrid and young Portuguese winger Angel Di Maria is an assists machine and has been so for the last two-and-a-half seasons.

His last year in Portugal with Benfica he produced 19 assists. The first season in La Liga with Real Madrid he managed 20 and already has 13 so far this season.

Dries Mertens

PSV Eindhoven midfielder Dries Mertens has been prolific since moving from FC Utrecht. In his 65 games at Utrecht he scored 16 goals. However, in 19 games so far for PSV he has 15 goals and four assists.

Mertens has been largely overshadowed by Eden Hazard as the most talented young Belgian star out there, but a move to a club like Liverpool could allow him to prove his worth as an attacking midfielder

Neymar

With the Reds in need of a prolific young goal scorer to light up the league where else could your mind wander but to the most followed 19-year-old forward in the world, Santos starlet Neymar.

While Liverpool is certainly not at the level they would need to compete financially with the likes of Real Madrid or Barcelona, if the youngster wanted to go to a club and help build a dynasty, Liverpool would be the place for him to go.

Gareth Bale

Seriously Liverpool, we spent 75 million on Andy Carroll, Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson. All the while we could have spent a fraction of that on Tottenham's Gareth Bale.

Bale can do all that those three do combined, from the bad to the good and still be way better at it. I guess that is what the Reds get for buying English talent when they could have bought Welsh talent like Bale, Aaron Ramsey to go with Craig Bellamy.

Mesut Ozil

Earlier I called Angel Di Maria a creative assist machine, well that would not be good enough to label German international Mesut Ozil.

The Real Madrid attacking midfielder has been better and better each season and has progressively increase both his goals output and assist output each season for three years from five goals and 20 assists in 2008-09, nine goals and 21 assists in 2009-10 and 10 goals and 26 assists last season.

Eden Hazard

There are few players at the age of 21 that have garnered as much attention as Lille and Belgian star Eden Hazard.

Hazard would be a great addition to the Reds lineup as the versatile wide player could provide the service and creativity on the wings that Stewart Downing is still failing to consistently provide.
