Campbell minta maaf.
LONDON: Peminat Liverpool yang mencetuskan jaringan paling pelik dalam sejarah bola sepak Inggeris, minggu lalu, akhirnya muncul meminta maaf kerana menyebabkan bola pantai meluru ke padang.
Callum Campbell, 16, memberitahu akhbar Sunday Mirror dia yang menampar bola itu ke padang hingga menyebabkan Liverpool tewas 1-0 di Sunderland pada 17 Oktober lalu.
Remaja itu menerima pelbagai ancaman bunuh kerana menjadi punca kekalahan kelab itu hingga mengakibatkan kedudukan EPL The Reds terjejas dan Campbell mengurung dirinya selama dua hari.
“Itu saya,” kata Campbell kepada akhbar tabloid itu. “Saya yang melakukannya. Tindakan saya disiarkan dalam kamera. Saya minta maaf. Saya mengalami mimpi paling ngeri.”
Pada minit kelima perlawanan itu, penyerang Black Cats, Darren Bent menyepak bola ke sasaran, namun ia kemudiannya terkena bola pantai itu, lalu melencong ke arah bertentangan yang mengelirukan penjaga gol Reds, Pepe Reina.
Berjuta penonton di seluruh dunia menyaksikan insiden pelik itu.
“Ketika saya pulang ke rumah, saya terus muntah di kawasan taman. Saya rasa tidak sihat - dan ancaman bunuh pun bermula di internet pada keesokannya,” kata Campbell.
“Saya menontonnya berulang kali dan masih tidak pasti bagaimana ia berlaku. Tapi ibu saya memberitahu bahawa itu bukan salah saya - dan saya perlu mempercayainya. Pengadil tidak sepatutnya membenarkan gol itu. Saya harap peminat Reds faham dan memaafkan saya.
“Saya sendiri tidak tahu bagaimana ia berlaku. Ia hanya untuk suka-suka dan kalau saya boleh undurkan masa dan mengubahnya, saya akan membaling bola ke penonton dan bukannya ke padang.
“Saya benar-benar minta maaf atas apa yang saya lakukan.”- AFP |

 THE DEVIL'S BANE: Torres celebrates after scoring a goal against United
LIVERPOOL boss Rafael Benitez hailed the character and quality of his side after they ended a run of four defeats by beating arch rivals Manchester United 2-0 at Anfield yesterday.
Benitez’ future was the subject of speculation prior to kick-off, with the Reds on their worst run of results since 1987 but second half goals from Fernando Torres and David Ngog won it for them.
“The players showed character and the fans were behind the players, we had 12 men,” a delighted Benitez told Sky Sports. “The mentality was good, everyone was working together, plus the goalkeeper Pepe Reina to the last fan on the Kop. The players answered a lot of questions, that is the most important thing,” said the Spaniard.
And interestingly Benitez revealed it was a late decision to use Torres from the start. He waited until the last moment before deciding Torres, who was struggling with a groin injury, could cope with a battle against United that could make or break his side’s season.
“In the morning, I had decided that he would be involved, but I needed convincing he could start rather than just be a substitute. I talked with Torres on the coach, and that was when I was really convinced that he could play.”
On what what a result like this proved, Benitez replied: “For me that the team are better than people think, and it shows the character and quality that we have. I was not really angry about the speculation surrounding his future, I was just trying to be focused on my job. The only way to change things in football is to win games.”
Torres got away from Rio Ferdinand to fire in the opener in the 65th minute and as United threw men forward in injury time, Ngog rounded off a counter attack to make it 2-0. Both sides ended with 10 men as Nemanja Vidic received a second yellow for tugging down Dirk Kuyt on the halfway line while Javier Mascherano was sent off after he was booked a second time for a senseless lunge on United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar in stoppage time.
Liverpool were lucky not to have Jamie Carragher sent off for a professional foul on former Liverpool man Michael Owen as referee Andre Marriner opted to show just a yellow card. Torres was in bullish mood. “This is a very important result. We have to be very happy for the points today and keep going.
“After that game, playing as a team and working hard, we can beat anyone. We have to think about that now, play as a unit and be better than before,” he said. |
