Chipset Bug In Series 6
Intel has issued a recommendation to it's channel customers to stop building and shipping systems based on Intel 6 Series chipsets. This came out today as a result of a design issue recently identified with the Intel® 600 Series Chipset. They are recommending to resellers and system builders that they stop building and shipping systems based on this chipset until additional information becomes available.
"If you have already shipped systems to your customers based on the Intel® 6 Series Express Chipset and the C200 chipset and believe you may be affected by this issue, please contact your place of purchase for specific information about next steps."

In some cases, the Serial-ATA (SATA) ports within the chipsets may degrade over time, potentially impacting the performance or functionality of SATA-linked devices such as hard disk drives and DVD-drives. The chipset is utilized in PCs with Intel’s latest Second Generation Intel Core processors. Intel has stopped shipment of the affected support chip from its factories. Intel has corrected the design issue, and has begun manufacturing a new version of the support chip which will resolve the issue.
