Fiorentina have offered Champions League hero Stevan Jovetic a new contract in a bid to see off interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.
But Jovetic is already well known to Europe's best clubs, with recent reports suggesting Chelsea enquired about a £15million move during the summer, while United are said to have sent a scout to watch him play against Roma.
United and Real Madrid:kant: were among the teams linked to Jovetic when Fiorentina signed him for £7.2m from Partizan Belgrade 16 months ago.
Young Manchester United central defender Jonny Evans learned one valuable lesson on Tuesday afternoon: never take your girlfriend to a press conference.
Seated alongside Sir Alex Ferguson at the top table at Old Trafford, the 21-year-old Northern Irishman listened attentively as his manager spoke earnestly about the benefits that marriage has brought to Wayne Rooney’s life and football.
It wasn’t long before the spotlight was on him, though, when he was asked by Sportsmail if maybe it was time for him to tie the knot with his girlfriend, Kate.
Northern Ireland defender Evans replied: ‘I really don’t want to talk about it, especially as my girlfriend is sitting in the middle of you all.
‘She is on a work placement with ITV this week.’
As all eyes turned to pick out an embarrassed-looking Kate, Ferguson seized his chance.
‘Get him tied down, dear,’ Ferguson said with a laugh.
Here is how Manchester United's players rated in their Champions League tie against Wolfsburg on Wednesday.
Manchester Utd
Kuszczak: 6
Wasn't at fault with the goal and given precious little to do.
O'Shea: 5
Didn't close down Hasebe who made the cross for Dzeko to head in Wolfsburg's first goal.
Ferdinand: 6
Managed to hold the back-line well as Wolfsburg attacked. Distribution from the back was key too.
Vidic: 5
Struggled in the wet conditions and was given the runaround by Edin Dzeko. Lucky not to be booked for the second time after fouling Dzeko in the second half.
Evra: 6
Did more defending than attacking and suspect in the air. Wolfsburg kept floating deep crosses to the far post and their first goal came from that source.
Valencia: 4
Was he even playing?
Carrick: 6
Scored his third goal in the Champions League for United with a sweet strike.
Anderson: 6
It was his run that earned the free-kick that led to the goal.
Giggs: 7
Scored his 150th goal of his United career after a deflected free-kick. Giggs was United's most creative force.
Owen: 6
Had a gilt-edged chance after a great cross by Giggs. Taken off after 20 minutes due to a groin strain. United fans will be worried.
Rooney: 7
Ran himself to the ground for United's cause. Displayed more graft than craft when United needed more of the latter.
Subs
Berbatov: 7
Gave more impetus to United's attack after coming on. Helped to create the second goal.
Fletcher: 6
Came on to shore up the midfield and protect the lead which he did.
