PETALING JAYA: “I did it to teach him a lesson”.
This was the justification put forward by controversial blogger Papagomo in explaining his physical assault on a foreign worker.
The four-minute video of the attack, which has gone viral on social media, shows the blogger, whose real name is Wan Mohd Azri Wan Deris, repeatedly slapping, punching and kicking a Pakistani contract worker.
Explaining the incident on his Facebook page “Sir Azri”, Papagomo claimed the Pakistani at the receiving end of his wrath had allegedly sexually harassed his sisters and their two friends.
He said the foreigner had crossed the line in doing so, and deserved to be taught a lesson.
Shot on January 29, the video begins with Papagomo lining up four foreign workers for an “identification parade”, before asking the harassed woman to identify the culprit.
The burly blogger is then seen repeatedly slapping, kicking and punching the much smaller victim, who does not put up a fight. The foreigner is then seen apologizing to Papagomo.
However, the apology wasn’t enough to calm Papagomo, who then continues to assault the Pakistani, before warning him to not show his face there “ever again.”
The majority of netizens applauded Papagomo’s actions.
Papagomo further said that he took the matter into his own hands as he feared the case would not see further action if he had taken it to the police.
Meanwhile, Malaysian Crime Watch Task Force (MyWatch) chairman R. Sri Sanjeevan told FMT that the video alone was enough for police to open a case against Papagomo.
“He should be arrested to teach others not to do the same. It doesn’t matter what crime the victim had committed.
“I understand why he (Papagomo) felt the need to bash up the guy but we have laws and regulations which have to be followed. He can’t simply take matters into his own hands.”
