Three wanted men shot dead in Gerik (Updated)
GERIK: Three men high on wanted list have been shot dead at Jalan Intan here following a gun battle with the police.
The incident is believed to have taken place at about 1.40am on Tuesday when police tried to stop the vehicle.
The suspects opened fire at the police, who then retaliated in self-defense.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the police had to fire back the trio, aged 25 and 34, whereby both were shot dead during the exchange
Khalid said, two pistols, bullets, mobile phones and pliers were discovered in their car and the three suspects hailed from Kelantan, had committed several criminal including murder, attempt murder, car theft and robbery.
"Among the cases they were involved in the last six months were the murder of a steamed rice seller in Terengganu and attempt murder of a single mother in Pahang," he said.
Khalid said the police suspected that they were organising a criminal activity in Perak.
He said the operation, which was under Ops Cantas, was carried by Bukit Aman police and the Perak and Pahang state contingent police headquarters.

3 penjenayah kejam ditembak mati
GERIK – Perbuatan kejam sekumpulan penjenayah menyamun dan menembak mati seorang peniaga nasi kukus di Dungun, Terengganu pada 13 Ogos lalu berbalas selepas polis menembak mati tiga lelaki semalam.
Mereka yang maut dalam kejadian berbalas tembakan pada pukul 1.40 pagi berdekatan Bangunan Persekutuan di sini dikenali sebagai Mohd. Baaqir Badrolsham, 25, dan Zailizann Amin Elias, 26, masing-masing dari Jeli serta Tanah Merah, Kelantan.
Seorang lagi suspek yang maut dalam operasi Ops Cantas Khas itu bagaimanapun masih belum dikenal pasti identitinya.
Selain kes di Dungun, tiga suspek itu disyaki turut terbabit dalam kes cubaan samun sebuah kenderaan pelbagai guna (MPV) Toyota Alphard milik seorang wanita di Kuantan, Pahang pada hari yang sama.

Suspek cuba larikan diri sebelum lepas tembakan
Gerik: Polis menembak mati tiga penjenayah bersenjata api yang amat dikehendaki dalam kejadian berbalas tembakan ketika suspek cuba melarikan diri daripada pemeriksaan di Jalan Intan, di pekan ini, awal pagi semalam.
Dalam kejadian pada jam 1.40 pagi itu, ketiga-tiga suspek berusia 25 hingga 34 tahun dari Kelantan maut di tempat kejadian.

Mereka disyaki terbabit dalam beberapa kes jenayah sebelum ini, termasuk kes bunuh seorang peniaga nasi kukus di Paka, Terengganu pada Ogos lalu serta dua cubaan membunuh termasuk satu kes di Kuantan, Pahang.
Ketua Polis Negara, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, berkata kejadian berlaku ketika sepasukan anggota dan pegawai dari Bukit Aman, Ibu Pejabat Polis Kontinjen (IPK) Perak dan Pahang menjalankan Ops Cantas sekitar pekan Gerik, awal pagi.
Katanya, hasil maklumat awam, polis menerima laporan satu kenderaan mencurigakan dikesan di pekan Gerik dan polis cuba menahan kenderaan yang dinaiki suspek untuk pemeriksaan.
Beliau berkata, suspek memberhentikan kereta mereka, tetapi secara tiba-tiba mengundurkan kenderaan dan melepaskan beberapa das tembakan ke arah polis.
“Polis terpaksa membalas tembakan ke arah kenderaan suspek, menyebabkan ketiga-tiga mereka mati di tempat kejadian,” katanya pada sidang media di Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah (IPD) Gerik, di sini, semalam.
Khalid berkata, pemeriksaan lanjut turut menemui beberapa peralatan dipercayai digunakan untuk kegiatan jenayah termasuk dua pistol Revolver, empat kelongsong peluru .38, tiga kelongsong peluru .22, tiga telefon bimbit, pemotong dan pemutar skru.
Katanya, polis mengesyaki ketiga-tiga suspek dipercayai cuba melakukan kegiatan jenayah sekitar kawasan itu, sebelum mereka berjaya dikesan polis.
6 rekod jenayah
Beliau berkata, siasatan awal polis juga mendapati ketiga-tiga suspek sekurang-kurangnya terbabit dalam enam kes sebelum ini seperti samun senjata api, bunuh dan mencuri kenderaan mewah.
“Dua daripada mereka masing-masing memiliki enam rekod jenayah lampau dan mereka bergerak aktif sejak awal tahun lalu.
“Polis masih menjalankan siasatan lanjut, termasuk mengesan baki ahli kumpulan itu jika ada,” katanya.
Khalid juga mengesahkan kesemua anggota dan pegawai polis yang terbabit dalam kejadian berbalas tembakan terselamat, manakala mayat ketiga-tiga suspek dibawa ke Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB), Ipoh untuk bedah siasat.

Hired killers gunned down in shootout
GERIK: Three killers high on the wanted list were shot dead in a gunbattle with the police when they tried to evade a roadblock here.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the trio fired at the police from the Pahang contingent who were trying to stop their car at about 1.49am on Tuesday in Jalan Intan, here.
“Police returned fire to defend themselves and the suspects were killed in the exchange,” he told a press conference at the district police headquarters here yesterday.
“None of our personnel were injured.”
Two pistols, bullets, mobile phones and pliers were found in their vehicle.
Sources identified the three as Mohd Baaqir Badrolhsam, 25, Zali-zan Amin Elias, 26, and Mohd Sahrufuzin Ali, 35.
The hunt for the suspects was carried out under Ops Cantas Khas by Bukit Aman police and the Perak and Pahang contingents.
The car the suspects were in bore Pahang registration plates but all three dead men were from Kelantan.
The three were involved in the murder of a steamed rice seller in Terengganu and had tried to kill a single mother in Pahang.
“They had also committed car thefts and robberies and had been especially active since six months ago,” Khalid said.
The trio, who were believed to be organising “criminal activities” in Perak, were known to be ruthless and would “do anything to get what they wanted, including murder”.
Investigations revealed that two of the suspects were involved in six criminal cases and the third in two.
Khalid said police were probing to find out whether the three had been hired as killers.
Asked if the three belonged to a gang, he replied: “If so, their deaths have crippled the group.”
The three bodies have been sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh for a post-mortem.
Taman Toh Purba Lahamat resident Roshana Abdul Rahman, whose house is near where the shootout took place, said she was awakened by the sound of gun shots.
The 39-year-old, whose husband works in Penang, said she and her two teenage daughters peeped from their living room window to see what was happening.
A neighbour told them there had been an accident.
They followed him to the scene, about 100m away from their house and learned that a shooting incident had just occurred.
Roshana’s 15-year-old daughter Nurliyana Mohd Ariffin said they were afraid to walk too near the car, which was surrounded by many policemen.
“It was terrifying to know that such an incident actually took place in this quiet housing area,” she said.
