maaf... tumpang thread

hi all

i just bought D-Link DI-524 Wireless Router that comes with 4 Ethernetports to make a small network comprising 2 additional PC's (will beconnected wired) and an option for wireless link for laptop (laptopwill be use seldomly as my sister comes to my house occasionally)..

my modem is BiPAC 5112S ADSL modem/router (supplied by Telekom Malaysia)

the problem is i could not make my computer 'see' the modem whenthe modem connected to the D-Link router but the computer can 'see' therouter..

i think it must be some settings need to be tweak for both router and modem.

the D-Link ip is 192.68.0.1 and the modem ip is 192.168.1.254
both using same subnet 255.255.255.0

pls help

tq

ps. kalau dah ada thread untuk nie mintak maaf tp td dah tgk dari depan smp belakang tak nampak ada post yg buleh membantu..

before going deeper into this issue, we need to know, can you get to the internet after setting up the network with D-Link router?

okay, follow these step:-

--> connect your modem WAN port to the internet.
--> connect your router WAN port to your modem LAN port.

on your BiPAC modem:
1. make sure you set its WAN ip address to resolve automatically from your isp.
2. set its LAN ip to be 192.168.1.254 with netmask 255.255.255.0.

on your D-Link router:
1. set its WAN ip to be 192.68.0.1
2. set its mask to be 255.255.255.0
3. set its gateway to be 192.168.1.254 (your modem LAN ip)
4. for dns servers, use dns server ip address that your modem use
5. turn dhcp service on so that all devices connected to it will be assigned ip addresses automatically with already configured configurations.

now, connect one of your computers to your d-link router. check if your computer has been assigned an ip address with appropriate configuration. try ping the router and then the modem. try to connect to the internet.

if failed, change subnet of the router to match the modem. instead of using 192.68.0.1 ip address, use 192.68.1.1.

please update here whether it works or not so that we all can learn.

aku rasela sebab ip dia tak same range.if your modem using 192.168.1.254 ip,then all your other ip within your lan should use that range(192.168.1.x) also.Your router is using 192.68.0.1(192.168.0.1 I pressumed) ip,that's why you can't connect to the modem.Change the router ip to 192.168.1.1,renew your pc ip if you get dhcp from the router and you should be able to see the modem. The key is all the devices ip within the lan should have the same range in order to see each other.

no, that's not the case. you don't need to use the same subnet in order to make it work. all you have to do is configure your network correctly. i use different subnet for my home LAN and have no issue. the key is to configure the network correctly. but, the easiest is to put everything in the same subnet.

i see, pardon me for my stupidity .I don't know much about ip's and subnets, tapi tulah sebab I've used to test my home pc with different ip,pc A with 192.168.0.1 and pc B with 192.168.1.1 and they can't see each other unless i change one of them accordingly. How do you make the pc see each other with different sets of ip like i've mentioned above.Thank you for your expertise

well, i don't know a lot either. anyway, to answer your question, you can use static route in your router to accomplish it.
