I don't really agree on this.Buddhists lack belief in materialism and objective reality where all atheists believe in.This is a distinguishing factor that sets atheists apart from buddhists.Perhaps calling buddhists as quasi-atheists or as non-theists would be a more accurate term?.

I agree with you that Buddhists are a world apart and different from the typical so-called 'atheists'. But from a certain angle of definition they are the same. All Humans are animals, a label we commonly do not like to be associated with . We are mammals and different from other animals. We are also mammals like dogs, cats, or pigs but we do not want to be associated with them on a normal social basis other than from a biological view. Thus the context is very important.

i have explained before, here goes again.

Generally the world can be divided into two main classes of people from the spiritual point of view.

1. Theists - those who believe God Exists.
2.  Atheists - they are Not-theists.

From the semantics point, the prefix "A" denote non, not or without.
From this definition, I AM an ATHEIST but i need to explain more as to which subgroup of atheist i belong to.

To the question:
Do you believe God Exists?

The ones who answer "Yes" is a theist.
The ones who answer "No"  is a not-a-theist, nontheist or atheist.
It is as simple as that.

Within the theist class, there are thousands of different theists groups. Within the different groups there are different sub-groups.

The same with atheists (those who are not theists), there also very contrasting groups here.
By the above definition, Buddhists are therefore atheists, non-theists(do not accept God exists), there is no two way about it. Buddhists are very different from other atheists in the sense that Buddhists are religious and adopt a different way of life from other atheists.
Quasi-atheists is a different sub-category of atheism, for example agnostics.


Off topic -Generally:
When discussing about issues, we really should see them in deeper perspectives, especially when discussing some very sensitive topics like religion and spirituality.  A narrow view often stir wrong thinking.

We need critical, logical and rational thinking based on wide perspectives, not blind faith in any intellectual discussions.

The definition of an atheist is very simple, but you will never see mucho directly admit to it. Just look at the previous threads. Anyway, it is illogical for one to be an atheist.

You are a fanatical christian liar, I have stated in bold in an earlier post that i am an atheist, qualified with further explanations in many other posts.

Debmey, why don't you admit and declare the following statement to yourself without any further explanation at all. Make that your signature.

"My name is Debmey, I am happy all the time, I like being a gay person and I am an animal."

There nothing wrong with  the above statement if you have the good intention, as all humans are animals, and the original meaning of gay was to be happy and joyful.
Without additional explanation, somebody may wrongly think you are a homosexual and like animal sex!

To me, to insist on above ambiquous statement without further clarification is stupid. That is the reason i do not prefer to call myself in the  standalone 'atheist' label.
