Gary will keep Macheda grounded
There is no chance of Federico Macheda being carried away as long as club captain Gary Neville is around.
For the second weekend running, Macheda came off the bench to rescue United, following up his brilliant last gasp winner against Aston Villa with the decisive strike in Saturday's triumph at Sunderland.
After such a startling introduction to life at the highest level, the 17-year-old could be forgiven for letting his emotions run riot.
The pictures of Macheda with a gaggle of female admirers that have appeared on Facebook suggest the young Italian is not exactly shy.
But goalkeeper Ben Foster says Neville will ensure the former Lazio academy star is kept in check.
"He should be OK," said the England keeper.
"Kiko is quite a level-headed lad but I don't there are too many in the dressing room that would let him get carried away with himself.
"Gary Neville puts his foot down on anything like that."
In fact, Sir Alex Ferguson had a quiet chat with Macheda's parents last week, aware of the impact the forward had made and the attention now set to be heaped on him.
Not that there are many in the United dressing room who are inexperienced in that department. And, for all the delight at Macheda's goal, claims the teenager meant to turn home Michael Carrick's long-range shot are being treated with caution.
"He says he guided it in," revealed Foster.
"He said it was a deft touch but I don't think many of the lads believe him."
Foster admitted his own mistake in the build-up to Sunderland's equaliser, that left the Red Devils once again sweating on victory in what is becoming a very tense battle for the title.
Not too much imagination is required to guess what Ferguson might have said to Sam Allardyce when the pair spoke yesterday morning, although having learned just how badly Blackburn were being affected by injuries, the United boss expected nothing other than a Liverpool victory at Anfield yesterday lunchtime.
The game of cat and mouse between the two north-west giants will now be put on hold for 10 days.
While Liverpool would appear to have no chance of reaching the Champions League semi-finals following their home defeat by Chelsea last week, United do at least have some hope.
In all probability they will need to become the first English team to beat FC Porto in Portugal on Wednesday night.
However, with Dimitar Berbatov expected to shrug off an ankle knock and the United medical staff desperately trying to get Rio Ferdinand fit from a recent groin injury, the defending European champions will travel in hope, if not quite expectation.
"It is a big game," admitted Paul Scholes.
"Their home form is obviously pretty good, so there is no doubt it is going to be difficult.
"But all we have to do is win a game and with the players we have, I am sure we are capable of that."

Fergie warns Ronaldo: Don't give it away
The Manchester United winger has cut a frustrated figure at times this season and was guilty of giving the ball away in the lead-up to goals for Aston Villa and Porto in the last week.
Ronaldo was the key figure in United's march to the Premier League and Champions League double last season but boss Ferguson has made sure the Portuguese star knows what is expected.
He said: "No, I don't accept that he will give goals away because of the player he is, I speak to him about it. I don't accept that from anyone.
"In European football, if you give the ball away it takes a long time to get it back.
"He always feels he's not getting the proper protection from referees and I think that, maybe, in quite a few cases he is right, and a few cases he is not right.
"It's hard when a player who wants to entertain doesn't get everything his own way. But you can't get everything your own way.
"He understands that and there's not a problem with that. It's just a frustration that he feels he doesn't get the decision and he gets upset about it.
"I think, obviously, he doesn't enjoy that and he knows he's letting himself down more than anything.
"He holds his hands up. I have had to remind him about that but I'm not getting into what has been said."
