tak semestinya kerja kat petronas ni adalah segala galanya.....alangkan ramai staff petronas pun berhijrah keluar. Yang penting skang kalau masih bekerja dlm related field kumpul pengalaman kaw2....then networking tu penting..bisnes card mesti standby...

DI PERSIMPANGAN

guys, next year Jan, i'll be having my industrial training. So far 3 companies had approached me. It is my dream to work with oil and gas company, offshore especially. But, the company approached me seems to be not well related to offshore based.

1. Bureau Veritas (BV). The office is at Dayabumi, they offer me 500/month and 60/day if i go to site (river, factory). The problem is, this company business is mainly on SHE assesment. They provide certification for a company to passes the SHE requirement. If not, they will consult the company on how to pass the assesment. As i know, BV do sent their people to offshore just to assest the rig. But, if i work with BV, maybe the chance for me to be a petroleum engineer is so little as my experiences will be only regarding SHE instead of piping or any skills required for a petroleum engineer. They absolutely won't sent me to offshore in my training period.

2. Malakoff. They offer me RM 700/month. This is not an oil and gas company, it is an energy generator company.IPP. (INDEPENDENT POWER PROVIDER). I don't have any idea about the plant. what i know is they produce electricity from coal. My plant will be at Pontian, Johor.

3. Sedia Teguh. This company is a representative for company which manufacture equipment used in O&G industry. Such as control, mass transfer things. When i asked the officer there, thiis is what they tell me ..
"You will learn from application, sizing/selection as well as the business aspect of it: generating proposal/specification". Doesn't it seems like i'm going to be a sales engineer? Allowance : RM 500/month.

My question is : which company that i should join for my industrial training? For the sake of my dream to be in offshore (O&G) industry.

Anyone of you, otai2 sume tolong aku ye...Thanks...

Bro,

Definitely only BV and Sedia Teguh are merely related to offshore. Btw, as far as I'm concern BV sometimes sent their guys to perform jobs at offshore but not on a regular basis....just if only there is equipment testing to be done. Just a friendly reminder, I don't think you'd lucky enough to get chance to perform your ojt at offshore since you're only a practical student. To work offshore you must possess an offshore safety passport in which will costs you RM2000 for 3-days course (this regulation is mandatory)...so I'm not sure BV or Sedia Teguh willing to provide you that, at least not yet. If those companies are only your choices right now...I'll recommend BV since you don't wanna be a sales engineer with ST.

Perhaps somebody here will have a better recommendation for you. Cheers!

i would strongly suggest Malakoff. eventho Malakoff is not Oil and Gas, seriously, for the sake of LI, Malakoff will provide you with the best experience. under pre-assumption that you are a guy, and not really care about getting dirty and very technically competent or in pursuance of technical competency, let me illustrate further :

1) Tanjung Bin plant is a newly contructed plant in Malakoff line of power plants around Malaysia. you get the best to experience new place, new problem, on-how to start up power plant, setting up, or maybe some part of post-commissing. the keyword here is Turbine. Instrumentation and control also will be very interesting indeed. you will be surprise on how much the knowledge you acquire at Tanjung Bin power plant related to oil and gas. again, the keyword here is Turbine. might want to try your luck on google about these keyword : Turbine Oil Gas

2) the money of course. with rm700, i reckon you will live like king at Pontian. my only advice, save some for your future and always invest on yourself.

3) BV is a certification company alright. under this circumtances of being an LI, i doubt they will send you to offshore. basically office work. damn boring, unless you intend to pursue management ladder. btw, technical people get paid as much as management people also with less pressure.

4) networking. hehe..try Tanjung Bin. i believe they have lots of experience people there. they will share a little bit of their experience, their colleagues or their colleagues experience and achievement. be nice to everybody and you will get much experience need for this LI. plus, a network that will suggest any job oppurtunity upon your graduation.

thats all. good luck bro, and hopefully you will enjoy your time at Malakoff. anyway, this advice coming from someone NOT currently working at Malakoff. sort of outsider point of view. so, make the decision at your own risk!

does any one of you got any idea just how strong BV is in Malaysia? My lecturer said to me BV is still new here. Is it true? I'm so lucky as i was directly selected after the Principal Consultant there interviewed me at Dayabumi. Let's say I manage to secure my job there, how much is the starting salary? what about Malakoff? what about the benefits provided to the employee? Guys, I'm really thankful if somebody can compare me side by side these two companies...

p/s - for beng and taman, tq a lot guys...I

What is your background? Electrical eng? Mech? Chem?

Btw, what've been told by Taman is quite right. For career development, I think Malakoff is a better place for you plus you'll gain much more there...more challenging than BV or ST. And I do think Malakoff is paying high salary for their staffs.

About BV, actually the company is not quite new in this industry....from my experience I knew this guy named Hj Jeff...he's an inspector for BV whom came to my offshore platform somewhere around early this year to perform on crane load test...from that.. I don't think BV would send their engineers just to do the job. Sorry, I dunno how much he's getting $$$.

Your intention is working at offshore? Those companies are not offering you that. If you still interested, try Schlumberger...Carigali...Exxon...Dimension Bid..Baker Hughes... Talisman..Petrofac....Murphy Oil...

I'm a chemical engineering student. obviously in my training, i won't have any chances at all to go offshore. ok2. let us see my problem in other point of view.
Do offshore companies really take into account what I'm going to learn and experience during my industrial training? If i take BV, i will be trained to do all environmental stuff. If i take Malakoff, maybe i will be trained to do all the stuffs told by impiansetaman.  OMG. I'm so thankful on you guys for helping me to sort out my problem.

p/s- applied already to chiyoda, but they said they take graduates only.
