DORAMA THEME SONG
Mr.Children sings for "Battery," Olympics

The popular band Mr.Children has two theme songs in store this year. First, they will provide the theme for NHK's drama series "Battery," which premieres on April 3. The song, titled "Shonen," has not been given a release date yet.
Then this summer, the band will do the theme song for NHK's coverage of the Beijing Olympics. Details of the song are scheduled to be revealed around June.

NEW DORAMA
"Tokyo Ghost Trip" gets live-action

Last month, it was revealed that Maki Hashiba's "Tokyo Ghost Trip" manga is being turned into a live-action series, starring actors Juri and Ren Yagami.
The comedy series currently runs in Tosuisha's yaoi-focused Ichiraci magazine. Setsu (Juri) and Souwa (Yagami) are members of the Inui family, descended from itako (traditionally, blind female shamans from northern Japan). Their high school graduation is coming up, but the head of the Inui family suddenly runs away. Their older brother Kai (Renn Kiriyama), a priest who studied exorcism abroad, becomes their guardian, and Setsu and Souwa are forced to take over the family business of dealing with spirits.
Yoshikazu Kotani and Yukihiro Takiguchi play two other members of the Inui family, while Ryoma Baba plays a ghost named Isuzu Kitano.
The series will air on Tokyo MX starting this April. |

NEW SPRING DORAMA
Megumi Yasu to star in "Hisho no Kagami"

TV Tokyo's drama adaptation of Kei Horito's manga series "Hisho no Kagami" (previously announced here) will start its broadcast on April 11. Talento Megumi Yasu has been given the starring role of Yu Kagami, a multi-talented temp secretary with a strong sense of justice. The character is described as being skilled in karate and aikido, so Yasu has taken up kickboxing to help her play the part.

"Shikaotoko Aoniyoshi" tops winter drama awards

The winter drama season is not yet over, but Nikkan Sports has already conducted voting for its Nikkan Sports Drama Grand Prix, in preparation for the overall 2007 awards. A total of 3,675 ballots were cast, and in the end, "Shikaotoko Aoniyoshi" was the biggest winner.
The series was named Best Drama, beating out "Bara no nai Hanaya" by several hundred votes. The show repeated that scenario in the categories for Best Actor (Hiroshi Tamaki over Shingo Katori) and Best Supporting Actress (Haruka Ayase over Yuko Takeuchi).
Karina won Best Actress, while Toma Ikuta took Best Supporting Actor.

Ayaka ties up with "Zettai Kareshi"

Ayaka will be singing the theme song for Fuji TV's live-action "Zettai Kareshi" series. The romantic comedy is adapted from Yuu Watase's manga of the same name, also known by the English title "Absolute Boyfriend."
Ayaka's song is described as a medium-tempo love ballad, titled "Okaeri." The single is scheduled to go on sale sometime after mid-May.
"Zettai Kareshi," which stars Mocomichi Hayami, Saki Aibu, and Hiro Mizushima, premieres on April 8.

Ryoko Hirosue divorces

Actress Ryoko Hirosue revealed on Thursday that she and designer/model Takahiro Okazawa have divorced. According to the announcement made on her official website, various circumstances have made it difficult for the couple to continue with their marriage. However, Hirosue stated that she still respects and trusts Okazawa, and they intend to still treat each other as parents of their child.
The couple surprised the entertainment industry when they announced their marriage in December 2003. Hirosue was pregnant at the time, and she gave birth to their son four months later. She finally returned to work in 2005 with the Fuji TV series "Slow Dance."
Rumors of a separation started about two years ago when a women's magazine reported that the pair were living apart, and they were rarely seen together.
Hirosue has been given custody of their son. Neither side requested consolation money during divorce talks. Okazawa has already moved out mof their Tokyo apartment.
Meanwhile, Hirosue's acting career is picking up, as she has been cast in Yojiro Takita's "Okuribito" (due out this fall) and Kazuaki Kiriya's"Goemon" (early 2009). She has also reportedly been given a role in a television drama for this summer, but details were not revealed. In addition, she has signed commercial contracts with 4 different companies.

Madonna sings theme song for Kimutaku drama

Pop star Madonna is now connected to one of Japan's biggest celebrities. It was announced on Sunday that she is providing the theme song for the upcoming Takuya Kimura drama series that will air on Fuji TV. This is reportedly the first time one of her songs will be used as the theme for a television series.
Production staff for the drama, titled "CHANGE," wanted a major international artist to do the theme song. Thinking they had nothing to lose, they made an offer last December to Madonna, who happened to be working on her new album, "Hard Candy." After hearing about the drama's story and seeing the staff's enthusiasm, she accepted the offer and created the ballad "Miles Away."
"CHANGE" stars Kimura as an elementary school teacher who gets thrown into the political arena and winds up becoming the Prime Minister of Japan. Eri Fukatsu co-stars as his secretary. Other cast members include Hiroshi Abe as Kimura's election planner, Rosa Kato as a campaign assistant, and Akira Terao as the ruling party's general council chairman.
The drama will air on Mondays at 9:00pm, starting next month.

Aragaki named "Best Girl of 2007"

The 6th Tokyo Girls Collection (for 2008 spring/summer) took place on Saturday. Dozens of popular models participated in the fashion show, and CHEMISTRY gave a special performance.
This time, the event established a new award to honor the female celebrity who had the most successful year. The recipient of the "Best Girl of 2007" title was actress Yui Aragaki, who said she was nervous as she appeared on stage. Although she used to primarily be a model, she has reportedly walked a runway only once before.

"Karei Naru Ichizoku" named Drama of the Year

TVnavi magazine published the results of its Drama of the Year 2007 awards, which were chosen through reader voting. The top prize went to last winter's " Karei Naru Ichizoku, " which also won the Best Actor title for Takuya Kimura.
Ryoko Shinohara took Best Actress for "Haken no Hinkaku." She won the same award last year for the 2006 series "Unfair."
Shun Oguri ( " Hanazakari no Kimitachi e " ) and Yui Aragaki ( " Papa to Musume no Nanokakan " ) won Best Supporting Actor and Actress. Best Newcomer was given to KAT-TUN's Junnosuke Taguchi ( " Hanayome to Papa " ) and Mikako Tabe ( " Yamada Taro Monogatari " ).

Teen model Asami Tanaka gets first acting role with Hey! Say! JUMP

14-year-old Asami Tanaka, a model for SEVENTEEN magazine, will make her acting debut next month. She has been added to the cast of the NTV drama special "Sensei wa Erai!"
The drama stars Hey! Say! JUMP members Yuto Nakajima, Ryosuke Yamada, Yuri Chinen, and Daiki Arioka as middle schoolers who try to turn a dull teacher (Yusuke Santamaria) into a charming man. Tanaka will play one of their classmates.
The young model won the Miss Seventeen competition last year and made her debut in September. In addition to this drama, she has been signed to two commercial contracts this spring. She will also make her big screen debut in the summer movie "Jersey no Futari," directed by Yoshihiro Nakamura and starring Makoto Ayukawa and Masato Sakai.
"Sensei wa Erai!" will air on April 12.

"Last Friends" theme sung by Utada

Hikaru Utada is providing the theme for the Fuji TV drama "LastFriends." Last year, her "Flavor of Life" was used as an insert song in"Hana Yori Dango 2," but this will be her first actual theme song for adrama series since the 2002 release "Sakura Drops."
The song is a medium-tempo ballad titled " Prisoner of Love. " It isone of the tracks on her new album "HEART STATION" that goes on salethis week.
"Last Friends" stars Masami Nagasawa, Juri Ueno, Eita, Ryo Nishikido, and Asami Mizukawa. The first episode airs on April 10.

TOKIO's Matsuoka living with girlfriend of 5 years

TOKIO drummer Masahiro Matsuoka is the latest Johnny's Jimusho member to publicly reveal a romantic relationship. According to the new issue of FLASH, Matsuoka is currently living together with a woman that he has been seeing for about 5 years.
FLASH described the woman as short and resembling idol Shoko Nakagawa (Nakagawa herself is 155 cm tall). The magazine published photos taken last month of Matsuoka and the girl at their apartment. Last week, a reporter directly asked Matsuoka about the relationship, and he openly acknowledged it.
Johnny's Jimusho said they had no comment in particular, but also mentioned that they have not heard anything about a possible marriage.
A little over a week ago, bandmate Tatsuya Yamaguchi announced that he got married and is now expecting his first child.

Noriko Aota to star in daytime drama

Noriko Aota has her first starring role in a drama series with TBS's daytime program "Mama no Kamisama."
The plot is adapted from a short novel by author Yuzuki Muroi. Aota plays a single mother raising three children, each from one of her three failed marriages.
Talento Michiko Shimizu is also part of the cast. Filming has already started, though the show doesn't air until May 5. The 40-episode series will run in the weekday 1:30pm time slot.
