Malaysia Cup 2009: Home wins for Kelantan, Negri

KELANTAN are on course to qualify for the Malaysia Cup final after posting a 2-0 semi-final first leg win at home over Perlis while Negri Sembilan notched a 1-0 victory against Terengganu in Paroi yesterday.
Indra Putra Mahayuddin's penalty and Rizal Fahmi's goal earned Kelantan a win at the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium in Kota Baru while Mohd Zafuan Adha Radzak's header secured Negri their victory at the Paroi Stadium.
In Kota Baru, the scene at the stadium was electrifying with about 25,000-odd fans lending support to Kelantan.
Tickets were snapped up two hours after the booths at the stadium opened in the morning. A minor scuffle broke out as fans rushed to buy tickets. However, police managed to control the situation.
Indra had the Kelantan fans in joy when he scored from the spot in the 21st minute after Perlis' Fauzi Nan brought him down inside the penalty box. Rizal added the second in the 90th minute.
In Paroi, Negri had their first look at goal in the ninth minute but the grounder from defender Alif Samsudin, off a Shahurain Abu Samah's low cross, from close range hit the near post, with Terengganu goalkeeper Sharbinee Alawee well beaten.

In the 22nd minute, Negri's Hairuddin Omar latched on to a through pass from Rezal Zambery Yahya before his powerful grounder beat goalkeeper Sharbinee but he was ruled offside by referee R. Krishnan.
Terengganu packed their defence in numbers but they still managed to conjure a few good moves through strikers Abd Manaf Mamat and Ashaari Shamsuddin but the duo never really threatened Negri in the first half.
Negri were the more dangerous team in the first half with midfielders Rezal Zambery, S.Kunalan and Idris Karim creating several opportunities for Hairuddin and Mohd Zaquan Adha Radzak but the duo failed to take their chances.
However, Negri didn't have to wait long for their goal as defender Aidil Zafuan headed, off a S. Kunalan's corner kick, into the near end of the post for the lead in the 51st minute.
It was a soft goal as Aidil Zafuan's header could have been avoided if not for the confusion between Terengganu keeper Sharbinee and defender Alif on the goal line.
Instead of clearing the ball Alif accidently used his knee on the diving Sharbinee, who fainted for a couple of minutes.
Terengganu's Abd Manaf could have levelled the score when he broke deep into Negri's defence but he ballooned his shot over the crossbar in the 60th minute.
Ten minutes later, Zaquan had an opportunity to increase Negri's lead but his header, off an Idris Karim's cross, hit the cross bar.
Terengganu were down to 10 players when Hairiri Mohd Safie was flashed his second yellow card in the 85th minute
Negri continued to dominate proceedings but they failed to add more goals. They can expect a torrid time in the return leg in Kuala Terengganu on Saturday.
