McClaren says pressure on Arsenal

Wed 06 Aug, 09:26 PM

ENSCHEDE, Netherlands (Reuters) - Former Engeling manager Steve McClaren , whose new club Twente Enschede face Arsenal in the Champions League qualifiers next Wednesday, said all the pressure would be on the London side.

McClaren joined the Dutch club in June, making his return to football after being sacked as Engeling manager following their failure to qualify for Euro 2008.

"The pressure is on Arsenal not on us," he told reporters as he prepared for the first leg of the third round tie.

"My team has shown it is capable of qualifying. It has shown its qualities. These just need to be there against Arsenal...as long as we prepare right, work as a team, and get some luck, which is the most important, then who knows."

McClaren said had enjoyed his first six weeks at the club in the east of the Netherlands and the insight it had given him into Dutch football culture.

He said he had been impressed by the team spirit shown in Twente fourth-place finish last season and made it clear maintaining that would be his first priority.

McClaren added he had enjoyed working with players on a daily basis -- something he missed whilst away from club football.

"In international football you get the players very infrequently, and only for a few days. To work day in day out with these players has been for me the most rewarding."

Twente will be appearing in the Champions League for the first time and face a tough task against Arsenal, Champions League finalists in 2006 and quarter-finalists last season. But McClaren said generally low expectations of his team would spur them on.

"The draw could have been kinder in terms of football we know that.. but for the spectators it will be momentous."

Asked how he had recovered mentally since his departure from the England job, McClaren said: "By getting back to work, by coming here."

"I always wanted to coach abroad," he said, adding that former England manager Bobby Robson, who twice managed Dutch side PSV Eindhoven, had advised him to go to the Netherlands and had told him he would enjoy it.

err... sape lagi calon yg sesuai dari de rossi??

kalo kite nak cakap pasal calon yg seswai, 1stly kene la pikir what kind of DM dat we wanna look for..
a defensive midfielder can be divided into few types. Ni contoh2 yang aku rase..

1. Deep lying defensive Midfielder
- Jenis ni selalunya dok just in front of d back four. die xnaik atas during attack. He only comes to action when opposition are attacking. Tugas die ni is cover d back four, ball winner, break up play. diorang ni biasenye main short simple passes. xde hantar jauh2. n usually they are very calm n composed..best example is gilberto n makelele. but i dunno whether this type will suit arsenal's dynamic style. d good thing in dis kind of player is dat defender xkan risau sangat coz ade safety net depan diorang. tapi these players x offer ape2 during attacking. dats why gilberto xdapat main last season. tapi kalo arsenal nak, aku terbayang a few players such as:
- Nigel de Jong, 24 (Hamburg)
- Alex Song, 19 (Arsenal)

2. Midfield Dynamo
- Jenis ni yang xleh dok diam...ade merata-rata kat padang. kat mane ade bola, die mesti ade akt situ..kejenye nyusahkan orang je...opposition la..different than d ones above, yang ni bukan tunggu masalah, die ni pegi cari masalah untuk diselesaikan. usually player camni die badan xbesar, tapi bertenaga. contoh terbaik before dis is Gattuso. we had one before in flamini. d good thing in dis kind of player is dat diorang ni high work rate. xkan mengalah n akan membantu both attack n defense. d bad point is dat becoz these players tend to roam around, position die sniri akan terbuka so player lain kene cover lak, leaving gaps in midfield. dats why Milan n Itali pakai 5 midfield n 2 defensive midfield. player cenggini yang tengah naik adalah:
- Miguel Veloso, 22 (Sporting CP)
- Yaya Toure, 25 (Barcelona)

3. Holding Midfielder
- This type of DM is the player who links the defensive n offensive formation. selalunya, diorang la yang akan mulakan 'move' utk attack dulu. defender akan selalunya cari die ni dulu utk pass bola. then he'll pass it to those who are clear. diorang ni bukan stakat defensive, they can also become a playmaker. diorang ni memang kreatif. they can also win d ball, dictate play, tackle n mark players. Usually, kalo teams yang ade player cenggini, he's d key player. n usually, diorang ni ade dominating presence n figure in d middle of d park. contoh terbaik adalah Patrick Vieira n Daniele de Rossi. Bagi aku, Arsenal perlukan player yang macam ni. contoh2 adalah:
- Denilson, 20 (Arsenal) - tapi still mentah sangat...still in transition process.
- Gareth Barry, 27 ( Aston Villa)
- Fernando Gago, 22 (Real Madrid)
- Daniele de Rossi, 25 ( AS Roma)

4. Deep-lying Playmaker
- Andrea Pirlo. xyah cakap ape, the current best example of this type of midfield. before him, there were Pep Guardiola, Demetrio Albertini to name a few. diorang ni, walaupun dok kat bawah, tapi diorang ni xmain defensive..instead, they set up plays from their own half. even if they do go up, it will only be just in front of the circle line. diorang ni suke tengok dari jauh. kire dapatkan overview. the main creativity source of d team. they have great vision, good passing range, n very calm. leh dribble tanpa tengok bola. n selalunye, akan ade 1 lagi DM untuk cover kerja2 kotor die. Fabregas was previously this type of player, tapi die dah makin terer naik atas. unfortunately, its hard to integrate dis type into wengerball. tapi kalo nak contoh, here's a few names rising:
- Ruben de la Red, 22 (Real Madrid)
- Claudio Marchisio, 22 ( Juventus)
- Xabi Alonso, 26 (Liverpool)

Ni aku amik dari wikipedia..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midfielder

Central midfielders

Central midfielders play several roles on the field of play, and are probably the most important in terms of setting up attacks. Their position enables them to have an all-round view of the match, and as most of the action takes place in and around their area of the pitch, midfielders often exert the greatest degree of control over how a match is played. This section of the field is often known as a team's "engine room", because great teams rarely succeed without skillful, commanding central midfielders.

Defensive Midfielder:

A defensive midfielder or a holding midfielder is a central midfielder who is stationed in front of the back defenders for defensive reasons, thus "holding back" the freedom of the opponents to attack. This specialist midfielder's responsibilities are to defend against or tackle the opposing team and hold his defensive position, safely distributing the retrieved ball to more attack-minded players.

This is possibly one of the newest roles in modern football tactics. It is often likened to an evolved version of the old-school sweeper.

The defensive midfielder position is also referred to in Brazilian Portuguese as "volante" and in South American Spanish as "volante de marca" (Spanish & Portuguese for "Rudder" or someone who gives direction), and in Portugal as a "trinco" (meaning "lock"). Most Brazilian teams deploy at least one "volante" in their team, including the Brazilian national team who have fielded defensive midfielders, such as 1994 World Cup winning team captain Dunga.

Accomplished defensive midfielders playing today include Claude Mak閘閘

moist, ko mengingatkan aku pada

just kidding

yeppp  ! aku setuju ngan ko , no 3 mmg  type yg kita perlukan skrg.. but bila kita lihat list player dia mmg costly.. nk tgu denilson progress lmbt sket lerr...
tapi x leh ckp jugak ..last season pun aku x bajet pun flamini jd first eleven..  may be this season (jika tiada lagi player baru masuk) wenger akan gunakan samada denilson or diaby..  x pun wenger buat kamikaze.. no DM ..
