Man Utd vs Aston Villa Player Ratings
Manchester United
Edwin Van der Sar - 6
A contender for the assist of the season with that superb ball that found Wayne Rooney in the first minute. On the keeping front - was assisted by his crossbar on a couple of occasions.
John O'Shea - 6
He should have been tighter on the Villa wingers as they were allowed to shoot and cross from United's right back position.
Rio Ferdinand - 6.5
A moment of defensive slip up allowed Bent to score. Other than that one incident Rio was as reliable as ever.
Nemanja Vidic - 7
An impregnable fotress when United have Ferdinand and Vidic playing together. His goal is a typical striker's finish and one we can watch over and over.
Patrice Evra - 6
Did not have much to do, and was closely watching Villa's wingers making sure they did not have much room to work with.
Nani - 9
Although guilty of being too selfish at times, but his service the from the right were simply superb. Terrorized Clark from start to finish.
Darren Fletcher (34' off) - 6
Taken off due to injury in the 34th minute but was not missed as United had an able replacement in the likes of Anderson.
Michael Carrick - 7
Always made himself available and his passes were pinpoint.
Ryan Giggs - 7
Looks like he has another 2-3 seasons left in him. Even though his pace deserted him, his vision to pick out a pass and the awareness to know when to run at defenders and when to release the ball have been great.
Dimitar Berbatov - 6
Played well alongside Rooney, but this was not one of his best performance. Could have gotten himself on the scoresheet if he could keep his shot on target.
Wayne Rooney - 9
It is always good to see Rooney back on the scoresheet for Man Utd, especially in the first minute of the game. His work rate for United have been exceptional as well.
Substitutions
Anderson (34' on) - 7
A real solid anchorman and was the willing runner in the middle of the park.
Aston Villa
Brad Friedel - 7.5
Villa would be humiliated if not for him. Pull off a couple of brilliant saves to keep Villa in the game till Vidic dealt the killer blow.
Kyle Walker - 6.5
Although impressive going forward, he still has to work on his defending.
James Collins - 6
What he lacked in pace, he made up with some well timed tackles.
Richard Dunne - 5.5
Struggled to handle United's forwards and was guilty of letting Rooney in to score his first goal seconds after kick off.
Ciaran Clark - 4
He was deployed at left back in this game, which was not the best of ideas to put him up against Nani in a position he is not familiar with.
Marc Albrighton (69' off) - 5
Although he's been a real revelation for Aston Villa this season, he was not in the game and there was no creativity nor penetration from him at all.
Jean Makoun - 6
The new boy was full of energy, and should be a fan's favourite if he's given some time to settle.
Styliyan Petrov (75' off) - 4
The skipper was a liability and should have been substituted long before as he was totally outplayed by Carrick and Anderson.
Stewart Downing (80' off) - 6.5
The biggest threat for Villa came from him as he looked like the only person who can come up with something special for the team.
Ashley Young - 6.5
Looked dangerous on the counter attack, but just no end product. Unlucky to hit the crossbar with a superb curling effort in the second-half.
Darren Bent - 6.5
Toiled upfront all game and it finally paid off after he got into a great position to score his team's goal.

United legend Gary Neville retires
Gary Neville has announced his retirement from the game with immediate effect.
The veteran Manchester United full-back has not played since the New Year's Day victory over West Brom at the Hawthorns, when he was fortunate not to be dismissed for a professional foul on Graham Dorrans.
It was his 602nd appearance for the Red Devils. He also won 85 England caps.
In a statement reported on Manchester United's official website, Neville said:"I have been a Manchester United fan all my life and fulfilled every dream I've ever had.
"Obviously I am disappointed that my playing days are at an end, however it comes to us all, and it's knowing when that time is and for me that time is now. I have played in the most incredible football teams, playing with some of the best players in the world as well as against them and I have been lucky to have been part of the team's achievements and the club's great success.
"There are so many people I want to thank and, of course, top of that list is Sir Alex. He has given me so many opportunities and countless support over the last 20 years - he is truly one of the greatest managers - and I have to thank him for that.
"There have also been so many great players that I have had the privilege to train and play alongside. The experiences we've shared will be with me for the rest of my life. Also, I'd like to thank all the coaches I have played under from youth level right through to now, who have guided me through my playing days.
"And finally, the fans, who have always shown me unbelievable support. They know how special they are to me and this club.
"I am looking forward to new experiences and the club will always be a part of my life going forward. However, the most important thing now is for the club to continue with the success that is synonymous with Manchester United and I will be supporting them all the way, as a fan."
It will be interesting to see what direction Neville's life now takes.
He has long been touted as a potential coach at United and was mentioned as a possible successor to reserve team boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has returned to Norway to take charge at Molde.
However, in the aftermath of Andy Gray's abrupt departure from Sky, the 35-year-old has also been linked with the main pundit's job, even though his obvious allegiance to United would appear to present a problem to supporters of Liverpool and Manchester City in particular
-jadi coach reserve ke jadi pundit cam shebby.. |

Man United seek to keep Berbatov
Manchester United are to reward Dimitar Berbatov with a new deal after his 19 Premier League goals this season.
According to reports in the Sun, the 30-year-old is set to be offered a new three-year deal by Sir Alex Ferguson.
This is to keep the striker at Old Trafford, as his contract runs out in 2012.
Berbatov will also get a pay rise, earning around £120,000 a week, a bump from his previous £100,000 a week pay package.
The striker will be pleased at the latest developments, especially since it was not certain if he would actually turn out to be a success at the club.
Earlier reports indicate that the Manchester club were ready to sell him earlier in the summer, after his first two seasons turned out to be less than satisfactory, which was a disappointment given his £30 million transfer free from Tottenham Hotspur in August 2008.
Berbatov has scored 40 goals in 86 appearances for Manchester United.
