Man United could move for Taarabt

QPR midfielder Adel Taarabt believes he could soon be on his way to Manchester United.

The playmaker has caught the eye this season in helping Rangers to the top of the Championship table after struggling to make the grade during a three-year stint at Tottenham.

Taarabt is not short on confidence, though, and has already set his sights on returning at the very summit.

He claims a switch to Premier League leaders Manchester United could be on the cards, with discussions regarding a deal already opened.

"Nothing is official yet," Taarabt said in The People.

"I had discussions about my transfer after my performance against Coventry.

"I'm ready to go to Manchester United.

"We'll see later in the season, as I'm hoping to reach the promotion target with my current club QPR.

"I like England, so I am not against the idea of continuing my career at United."

Giggs Kertu: United's greatest

After six weeks of voting and thousands of submissions, United fans have crowned Ryan Giggs the club’s greatest ever player, topping a poll held by the club’s official magazine, Inside United, and ManUtd.com.

Giggs – already the most decorated player with the most appearances in the United's history – took yet another accolade by a healthy margin, confirming the esteem in which he is held by Reds fans young and old.

Second place in the poll went to Eric Cantona, who fractionally edged George Best into third position.

Welsh winger Giggs was typically magnanimous when he found out he’d won. “When I got told I was really chuffed,” he said.

“I couldn’t believe it to be honest, especially when you look at the list of other players who are up there.”

The poll was launched by Inside United in December 2010, with voting open until mid January. Readers were asked to nominate a first, second and third choice, and the responded in droves through the magazine, ManUtd.com and via the club’s Facebook page.

Inside United will announce Giggs as the winner in its March issue, out on 2 February. As well as counting down the rest of the top 10, the magazine also has an exclusive interview with vote-winner Giggs, who talks about the honour of winning, the privilege of wearing the Red shirt and his intention to add to his United legacy.

Giggs was presented with an award recognising the vote result by Sir Alex Ferguson prior to the home game against Birmingham City on 22 January.

Look out for more reaction to 'the greatest' vote on ManUtd.com on Tuesday. Sir Alex gives his reaction to the absence of Denis Law and Duncan Edwards from the top 10 (they finished 11th and 13th respectively), plus there's more from Giggsy, a 'best of' video from our winner and an exclusive desktop wallpaper.

The Greatest: The Top 10                As voted for by readers of Inside United and ManUtd.com, the Reds' top 10 players of all time are as follows:
1. Ryan Giggs
2. Eric Cantona
3. George Best
4. Sir Bobby Charlton
5. Cristiano Ronaldo
6. Paul Scholes
7. David Beckham
8. Roy Keane
9. Peter Schmeichel
10. Wayne Rooney

Rooney jaring dua gol untuk United atasi Villa 3-1

2011/02/02

Boss happy to vanquish Villa

Sir Alex Ferguson was left beaming by the authoritative air with which United saw off the stern challenge of Aston Villa.

Three superb goals – two from Wayne Rooney and a clincher from Nemanja Vidic – accounted for Gerard Houllier’s Villans. Although the visitors briefly halved the arrears through Darren Bent, United rarely wobbled in an imposing display.

“I’m absolutely delighted,” the Boss told MUTV. “Fantastic performance. We had some absolutely great displays today. I’m very pleased. They all played well. Villa are a very good side and we had to really concentrate when they had the ball because they had some good possession. But we missed some great chances and their goalkeeper’s had two or three really fantastic saves. I thought we deserved to win by more, actually.”

United’s victory was teed up by Wayne Rooney’s scorching opener inside a minute; a gentle caress of Edwin van der Sar’s free-kick and a thumping finish to follow. Having bagged his first home goal from open play since last March, Rooney added a second just before half-time, and Sir Alex was delighted to see his number 10 back on the scoresheet.

“It was a fantastic bit of vision from Edwin van der Sar and a great strike, and he’s taken it absolutely fantastically. What a hit. Wayne Rooney was fantastic tonight. He’s still got the appetite to play, and that’s an important factor in it all. He never stops trying hard, and that’s an inbred thing in the lad. We can’t be criticising him when he’s giving that effort.”
