Liverpool FC Player Ratings
Liverpool were sent back to Merseyside by Fiorentina empty-handed as the Serie A side put on a show to defeat the Reds 2-0.
Liverpool:
Jose Manuel Reina: 5
Was beaten twice in the game but could not be blamed for the goals. Had hardly anything to do besides the goals, save for denying Juan Manuel Vargas on one occasion.
Glen Johnson: 3
Played Stevan Jovetic onside for the first goal and was not even close to Vargas for the second. Totally abysmal for the whole game.
Jamie Carragher: 5
Tried to organise the defence, but one man can only do so much. Played it tidy at the back, like an English centre-back should.
Martin Skrtel: 5
Battled to keep Fiorentina out but could not stop Jovetic running rings around him. Broke into La Viola's penalty box with the ball but his cross was ballooned over by Torres.
Emiliano Insua: 3
Was the other player that played Jovetic onside for the first goal. Was consistently muscled off the ball and failed to settle into a rhythm. Was replaced by Ryan Babel in the 72nd minute.
Steven Gerrard: 6
Huffed and puffed, and ran box-to-box, but no end product to show for his troubles.
Lucas: 4
Lost the ball often in the Fiorentina half. Doesn't seem to be the 'next-anything', let alone the 'next Stevie-G' or 'next Xabi Alonso'.
Yossi Benayoun: 6
Tried to initiate the attack and did threaten Sebastian Frey on occasion, but it was not enough.
Dirk Kuyt: 6
Was an absolute warhorse on the right, but his running was for naught. Was taken off for Andriy Voronin in the 80th minute.
Fabio Aurelio: 5
Absolutely invisible in the game.
Fernando Torres: 7
Did threaten in the early going, but was kept in check by Alessandro Gamberini. Almost scored from Skrtel's cross but proceeded to blast the ball into orbit.
Subs:
Diego Cavalieri
Andriy Voronin: 5 (on 80th minute)
Ran around like a headless chicken. Had nothing to show for his time on the pitch.
Albert Riera
Sotirios Kyrgiakos
Ryan Babel: 6 (on 72nd minute)
Less of a headless chicken, but his speed could not bring the Reds back into the game.
