Manchester United line up Newcastle striker Andy Carroll - report

Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll is being watched closely by Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson as he looks to bolster his striking options.
It is believed that the Red Devils manager is looking for one more striker as questions marks remain over some of his current roster and The Metro believe Fergie sees Carroll as the missing link.
As Goal.com UK exclusively revealed last week, Ferguson is likely to face competition for the striker if he decides to make a move in January.
While Dimitar Berbatov leads the Premier League scoring charts, Ferguson is reportedly keen to strengthen, as England star Wayne Rooney continues to misfire after his return from injury, and Michael Owen is expected to leave in January, or the summer.
In terms of other options, Javier Hernandez has impressed but is not yet an automatic first team choice, while Federico Macheda is still untried and has been linked with moves back to Italy.
United manager Ferguson is also expected to be given £50 million to spend over the course of the next year and remains among the favourites to capture the troubled striker.

Glazer will sell United 
MANCHESTER UNITED'S future has been thrown into doubt after a club bigwig said the Glazers WILL sell up.
Old Trafford non-executive director Mike Edelson revealed: "It's no secret that, at some time, the family will sell."
And that has now opened the door for the Qatar royal family, headed by Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who have targeted United in a £1.5billion deal.
Edelson's comment is the first clear indicator the Glazers will listen to offers for United, which they have plunged into debt. Having bought the Premier League giants for £790million 5½ years ago, the Yanks now stand to DOUBLE their money.

Sources in the City are convinced the Glazers are ready to sell after they paid off £252m of the £752m of debt they saddled the club with.
One top city source said: "The belief is that they have already brought in extra finance from a third party in a bid to set the club up for a sale."
A Middle East football finance expert, meanwhile, told SunSport that Qatar Holdings - the business arm of the country's royal family - have been hovering around United waiting to strike.
The source said: "They have made tentative moves before with little success but this time it looks like they could be going for it.
"Now they have landed the 2022 World Cup, the country wants to expand its influence in the game across the globe."
United board member Edelson has been a close confidant of the Glazers since they took over the club in 2005.
He made his shock revelation in a Q&A session at the Maccabi Sports Club in Prestwich, Manchester.
Qatar's royal family has an estimated £40bn of assets and, last week, became the first sponsor of Barcelona's team shirts in a £125m deal. |

Lindegaard on board
Recent Reds signing Anders Lindegaard has started training with his new team-mates at Carrington.
The 26 year-old's acquisition was announced on 27 November and while he must wait until January before he's eligible to play for the club, the Danish goalkeeper is now acclimatising to life at Carrington and getting to know his United colleagues.
Lindegaard arrives with plenty of games under his belt this year, after finishing fourth in the Norwegian league with previous club Aalesunds FK. Anders comes with high acclaim too, with former Tottenham goalkeeper Erik Thorstvedt among his admirers.
“He has an impressive overall game – he’s got good hands, is confident with crosses and has good presence," said Thorstvedt, who's been able to watch Lindegaard while working as a pundit for Norwegian TV.
Another famous Norwegian, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has also praised the big Dane.
“It’s dangerous to say but he’s very good with his feet which reminds me of Edwin (van der Sar)," Solskjaer told us, prior to his departure.
"Lindegaard can pick out players and that’s one of the strengths of his game. I like that about him."
It remains to be seen whether United will sign anyone else in January but for now the squad heads into the New Year already with one promising addition. |
