Perhaps you’ll recall the Kim Bum high school horror movie Go-sa:Bloody Midterms [고사 : 피의 중간고사], which also starred Lee Beom-soo as a teacher and former Seeya member Nam Gyu-ri as a student and Kim Bum’s love interest. It had a pretty successful run last summer with sales of 1 million tickets, which is strong enough to now produce a sequel.
Production company Core Contents Media has announced that the story of Go-sa 2 will not directly continue from the original movie, but will still be set amid a academy background (which may make it more like the Memento Mori–Whispering Corridors horror series). They are currently in the scriptwriting stage, and the concrete details will be revealed in a press conference in January.
All I know is that based on the description, I’d doubt that Kim Bum would return in the sequel (and there’s also the fact that he was fresh off High Kick at that time, but has since become a major star). Perhaps it’ll turn out like the Memento Mori series of horror flicks (which raised the profiles of stars like Kim Min-sun, Gong Hyo-jin, Park Jin-hee, and Park Han-byul) and cast up-and-comers to be a launching pad for future stars.
