Aston Villa star targets Uefa Cup
The Midlands club have been rejuvenated since the arrival of manager Martin O扤eill, and the Colombian star has targeted a place in next season抯 Uefa Cup competition.
"When I joined Villa everyone was saying we were going to move forward," said Angel. "They were saying a lot of new faces would be coming in and the aim of the club was to get into Europe.
"It hasn't happened so far. I am very grateful for so many things from this club, but one thing is for sure - we should have done better on that front. Now I think we've got the right man in charge to do it.
揑 can't see why we are not capable of getting into Europe this year. It will be a great opportunity. Since I have been at the club, it has been up and down. We have to start getting consistency.
揂 good football club are challenging for Europe every year. Everyone here wants to do that. It is as if everything has clicked again. The spirit is good. The togetherness is back again. |

Newcastle's Ameobi blasts West Ham fans
tribalfooball.com - September 18, 2006
Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi has blasted West Ham fans for the way they treated Glenn Roeder on Saturday.
Stewards and police had to protect the former Hammers boss after his fist-pumping salute to the visiting fans.
Roeder suffered a brain tumour while managing West Ham, who were relegated under him.
And Ameobi said: "The stick he was getting is so sad. There's nothing wrong with celebrating." |

Newcastle keeper Given may miss 3 months
tribalfooball.com - September 18, 2006
Newcastle United goalkeeper Shay Given could be missing for THREE MONTHS after his horror stomach injury.
The Sun says the Newcastle keeper had an emergency op on a ruptured bowel on Sunday night after colliding with West Ham striker Marlon Harewood in the Toon's 2-0 win at Upton Park.
Given, 30, has been ordered to rest completely and will remain in a London hospital until docs decide he is fit enough to make the 250-mile journey back to the North East.
He will miss Ireland's Euro 2008 qualifiers next month against Cyprus and the Czech Republic.
Toon No 2 Steve Harper will deputise at Liverpool tomorrow and in Sunday's clash against Everton.
Boss Glenn Roeder said: "Shay is comfortable and will have a short stay in hospital.
"We are lucky to have Steve as our No 2. He'd be No 1 at a lot of clubs." |

West Ham's Tevez: Newcastle came in for me 2 years ago
tribalfooball.com - September 18, 2006
West Ham striker Carlos Tevez admits he could have signed for Newcastle United two years ago.
"I have known about Newcastle for a long time," Tevez told the Sunday Sun.
"During my days at Boca Juniors, my agents told me that the English club demanded reports on me as they were interested in signing me.
"I was interested, Newcastle is a historic club. But it wasn't possible to agree a deal and my destiny was to join Corinthians." |

Newcastle boss Roeder: We tried for Tevez
tribalfooball.com - September 17, 2006
Newcastle United boss Glenn Roeder admits he was interested in Carlos Tevez before the Argentine's move to West Ham.
Roeder said: "Tevez was one of the players who impressed me in the World Cup and I made a discreet inquiry about him.
"It was no more than one telephone call, but I was told that we had absolutely no chance of getting him and I did not pursue my inquiry any further.
"That is why I was surprised when I found out that Alan Pardew had signed both Tevez and Mascherano from Corinthians." |

Rivals eye striker swoop Mon, Sep 18 2006 13:39
Striker Teddy Sheringham has emerged as a target for Blackburn Rovers after falling down the pecking order at West Ham.
Rovers remain on the look-out for frontmen following the summer departures Paul Dickov and Craig Bellamy. Summer signings Jason Roberts and Benni McCarthy have not had the desired impact at Ewood Park and Ewood Park chief Mark Hughes is keen to draft in an experienced forward in January to ease the burden.
Despite Alan Pardew's protestations to the contrary, the veteran appears surplus to requirements at Upton Park following the arrival of Carlos Tevez from Corinthians and Chelsea's Carlton Cole. |

Hammers in race for Juve star?
18-09-2006 15:40
Portsmouth and West Ham are understood to be interested in Juventus midfielder Mauro Camoranesi.
The player's agent, Sergio Fortunato, has stated his client will leave the Turin club in January, with the Premiership duo both in the frame for his signature.
It is believed there have been concrete offers on the table for the Italian international, although Internazionale could emerge as favourites in the race for the player. |
