Football transfer rumours: Michael Carrick to Liverpool?

Sir Alex Ferguson never ceases to amaze. Just when you thought the knight in whining armour could no longer stun with his skills, we find out that in addition to his football prowess he is a tip-top post-impressionist painter. This effort, we believe, was daubed by the Scot last Saturday and is, according to critics, "a masterful rendering of the anguish endured by managers of clubs in flux or plain old decay, in this case, evidently, Portsmouth's Paul Hart."

That tableau has been compared to certain works of Vincent van Gogh, which is apt really, as the Scot's management is also beginning to bear uncanny resemblances to that of the Dutch brush-wielder. Famously, Van Gogh cut off his own ear (though some historians now claim it was, in fact, Gaugin who lopped it off in a fit of pique but the Dutchman was so drunk at the time that he thought he'd done it himself, or something), whereas Ferguson is currently in the process of lopping off his own nose, apparently to spite his face. At least that's what the Mill deduces from reports that he will deplete his already inadequate squad by flogging both Anderson and Michael Carrick before the transfer window closes.

Word is the manager has fallen out with both players, neither of whom made it even so far as the bench for United's trip to Wigan at the weekend. Barcelona are said to be eager to liberate Anderson from Old Trafford, while Fergie's old chum Rafael Benítez, wants Carrick, whom he fancies as a decent replacement for Xabi Alonso. Fergie isn't particularly keen on sending him to Anfield, of all places, but money is so tight around Old Trafford that if Rafa can come up with £10m the deal will be done. That's a mighty big 'if', though.

Elsewhere, Fergie's one-time protégé, Roy Keane, is taking a similar approach to squad-building and has reportedly told nearly half his Ipswich squad that they can skedaddle. Given that Keane has previously said he won't be making any more signings this summer, that'll leave the Tractor Boys' squad about as deep as a debate on The Jeremy Kyle Show.

Anderson: I want to fight for my place
Brazilian Anderson been told to work harder in training by Sir Alex Ferguson, but the United midfielder has stressed that he wants to stay and fight for his first-team place. The 21-year-old has only started one game this season - the defeat to Burnley last week - and clashed verbally with Ferguson after being left out of the team for the Community Shield against Chelsea at Wembley. It is understood that Ferguson had not been enthused about Anderson's pre-season training, something he has vowed to put right. He told Sportsmail: ‘I believed that I would play in the Community Shield but that is forgotten now. I thought that, without Cristiano Ronaldo around, I would play more and that has been my challenge from pre-season onwards. But the coach decides the teams and to discuss this with him is foolish because he is the chief. I do not want to leave United. No. Sir Alex Ferguson has demanded a bigger effort from me and I accept that. Because to get in to this United team is very complicated and difficult for any player."

Belakangan ini nama Anderson muncul dalam pemberitaan sejumlah media massa terkait masa depannya di Manchester United [MU]. Anderson disebut-sebut bakal meninggalkan kota Manchester, karena jajaran staf pelatih tidak suka dengan performanya yang mengalami penurunan.

Menjawab spekulasi itu, Anderson menegaskan dirinya masih ingin bertahan di Old Trafford. Anderson merasa yakin penampilannya bersama MU akan semakin membaik, mengingat setelah hengkangnya Cristiano Ronaldo ia mempunyai peran lebih besar di barisan tengah.

“Apa yang telah terjadi sudah saya lupakan. Saya sebelumnya berpikir, tanpa adanya Cristiano Ronaldo, saya bisa bermain lebih luas lagi. Sejak pra-musim lalu, saya menjadikan situasi ini sebagai tantangan,” ujar Anderson kepada suratkabar Daily Mail.

Anderson pun menegaskan dirinya tidak terlalu memusingkan mengenai pemilihan pemain dalam starting eleven. Anderson selalu menegaskan ia tetap menghormati keputusan yang sudah diambil Sir Alex Ferguson dalam menentukan skuadnya di setiap pertandingan.

“Pelatih yang berhak menentukan komposisi pemain, dan sebuah tindakan bodoh bila hal ini masih didiskusikan, karena dia adalah ketua. Saya tidak pernah berpikiran meninggalkan United. Sir Alex Ferguson telah meminta peranan besar kepada saya,” imbuh Anderson.[img][/img]
