Manchester, England (Sports Network) - Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been handed a two-match touchline ban and a $15,000 fine by the FA for his spat with referee Mike Dean after the 4-3 win over Hull City.
The charge related to the veteran manager's behavior at the end of the 4-3 Premier League victory over the Tigers at Old Trafford, with Ferguson admitting to the indiscretion.
The Red Devils had allowed a 4-1 advantage to slip as a game they were leading comfortably threatened to fall from their grasp.
Ferguson approached referee Dean as he was heading off the pitch at full-time and his verbal outburst was subsequently noted in the official's post-match report.
The United boss confronted the official over his decision to award Hull an 82nd-minute penalty and his failure to show Michael Turner a second yellow card for a tackle on Michael Carrick.
Ferguson had responded when he was told about the FA charge: "I am a bit surprised, but this is the FA. They were probably dying to send me a letter."
