2016 : Star Wars: Rogue One

Star WarsCelebration 2015 is underway in Anaheim, California, and thus far the event hasbrought us a brand new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer;an extended preview of season two for the Disney XDanimated TV series Star Wars Rebels; the first look at the upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront video game;and, on top of that, additional details about the next era of the Star Warsfranchise, now that Lucasfilm has set up shop at the Mouse House a.k.a. theWalt Disney Company.

Today the focusshifted to Star Wars: Rogue One, which is planned as thefirst of multiple Star Wars standalone live-action film - with RogueOne due to arrive in 2016. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy was atthe panel for Rogue One, along with director Gareth Edwards (Godzilla(2014)). However, Josh Trank – who is set to helm the currently-untitled second Star Wars “Anthology” (moreon that later) afterRogue One – was due to attend, but had to callout sick. That was the reason given for his absence, anyway. Moving on…

Here are the newofficial details for Rogue One, as revealed during the film’s StarWars Celebration panel:

• Rogue One (as Tweeted by     the official Star Wars account) has received the following synopsis: “A     band of resistance fighters unite for a daring mission to steal the Death     Star plans” – confirming the longtime rumor about the movie’s narrative.
• Oscar-nominee Felicity Jones (The Theory of     Everything) is playing a Rebel soldier in the film.
  

• Rogue One takes     place between Episode III and IV –     BUT, closer to the events ofEpisode IV: A New Hope (no     surprise).
• ILM’s John Knoll was the one who pitched the     film. Edwards was hired to direct while he was still working on Godzilla.
• There won’t be any Jedi in Rogue One,     as Edwards has said “It comes down to a group of individuals that     don’t have magic powers, that have to bring hope to the galaxy.”
• Edwards emphasized that the script – penned by     Gary Whitta (After Earth) and Chris Weitz (Cinderella (2015))     – sets the stage for a Star Wars movie that plays out very much like a war     thriller. That’s why people such as Zero Dark Thirtycinematographer     Greig Fraser will be working out the movie’s visual     style.
  

Production begins on Star Wars: RogueOne this summer.

It’s now officially confirmed that theupcoming Star Wars: Rogue One – the first StarWars Anthology (read:standalone) movie that Lucasfilm will release – will take placeafter Episode III (Revengeof the Sith) and not too long before Episode IV (ANew Hope) and tell the tale of the mission to steal the firstDeath Star’s plans. However, as of right now, the only confirmed cast member inthe film is Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything),who’s playing a Rebel soldier.

Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline) is reported to be circling a Rogue One role – though, presumably, not the malelead role, which such actors as Breaking Bad‘s AaronPaul and édgar Ramírez (Clashof the Titans) were previously said to be in the running for. Thelatest update on the film’s casting process reveals that actors Sam Claflin andRiz Ahmed as now circling key roles in the feature, including theaforementioned male lead.

TheWrap is reporting that Claflin is the front-runner fora starring role in Rogue One, while Ahmedhas already entered talks for another key role. Elsewhere, Variety‘ssources are saying that Ahmed is the top choice for the male lead, citing hischemistry with Jones as having set him apart from his competition. The short ofit: both actors seem to be circling important roles in RogueOne; assuming they sign on, we can later sort out who’s playingwhat role (and what those roles/characters even are).

Ahmed appeared in such not-exactly-mainstream filmsas Four Lions, Centurion,andThe ReluctantFundamentalist beforecostarring with Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawlerlast year – playing Rick,a fellow who becomes the unwitting assistant to Lou Bloom’s (Gyllenhaal)gruesome night-time paparazzi work. That film is foremost a showcase for Gyllenhaal, but most would probably agreethat Ahmed certainly held his own with a solid supporting performance.

Rogue One is based on a scriptpenned by Gary Whitta (After Earth) and Chris Weitz (Cinderella),with the longtime rumor being that Rebel soldiers join forces with bounty hunters ontheir mission to steal the plans to the first Death Star. In general, actually,it seems the upcoming Star Wars films will be including more morally-greycharacters – even the animated TV show Star Wars Rebels has begun to do as much.

Point being: notall of the film’s main cast members may be playing admirable members ofthe Rebel Alliance; they might even start out on the Imperials’ side, a la John Boyega as Finn in The Force Awakens. There have always been(and shall continue to be) pure heroes in the Star Wars franchise,but these new characters whose values are not always clear-cut should betterhelp to mix things up – and assist in keeping the galaxy far, far awayinteresting, as we see more of it on the big screen.

Star Wars Anthology ROgue One ni....bukan kisah Skywalkers or Jedis....tapi dia pertengahan penceritaanantara Episode III dan Episode IV....yang mana kisah berkenaan sekumpulan askar pemberontak menjalankan misi untuk mencuri pelan Death Star yang kita tengok kat Episode IV dulu yang diletupkan oleh Luke Skywalker.....so ini kisah kumpulan pemberontak tu dia curi pelan Death Star dan berikan pada Leia ...

Tiada Jedi ...tiada Skywalkers...hanya perang dan perang.....tapi mungkinkah...Darth Vader akan muncul?
