Kanjani8 holds their first open-air live concert + more tour dates announced
On September 16th, popular idol group, Kanjani8, held their tour “8EST ~Minna no Omoi wa Dou Nandai? Bokura no Omoi wa Mugendai!!~” at Tokyo’s Ajinomoto Stadium.
The group is holding this nationwide tour in commemoration of the 8th anniversary of their CD debut. The group started the tour at the same venue on the 15th and will continue touring through 10 different cities until the end of December. Member, Murakami Shingo (30), said, “Thankfully, we’ve added some more performances. We will be performing at the Tokyo Dome on November 10th and 11th. We will also be performing at the Kyocera Dome in Osaka on December 30th and 31st and January 1st.”
Furthermore, with these additional tour dates added and including their 8th anniversary event this summer, the total number of the audience attended will be 880,000 fans. Yokoyama Yu (31) expressed his thanks to the fans, “We are naturally a group sticked to the number 8, so I am happy that we’ll be able to perform for 880,000 fans. It seems this is something the staff put some consideration into. I am so grateful.”
The group will also be releasing their best album “8EST” on October 17th. Murakami said, “The first press edition’s bonus DVD is packed full of things. It’s really awesome.”
Ajinomoto Stadium was the group’s first open-air concert. Nishikido Ryo (27) smiled, “The breeze feels great~!”. Kanjani8 performed in front of 55,000 fans who were waving their penlights. Fans were also pleased to see the return of the ‘Eight Rangers’ during the comedy corner of the concert, since it has been around two years since they were last seen.

Yasuda Shota, Aso Kumiko co-star in romantic comedy

Kanjani8’s Yasuda Shota (28) and actress Aso Kumiko (34) are set to co-star in a new movie next year, titled “Bashauma-san to Big Mouth.” The movie is a romantic comedy directed by Yoshida Keisuke (“Junkissa Isobe,” “Sankaku”).
This will be Yasuda’s first starring role in a theatrical film (not counting Kanjani8′s “Eight Ranger”). It will also be Aso’s first acting work since she gave birth to a daughter in May.
The movie’s title describes the two characters, who meet in a screenwriting class. Aso plays the 34-year-old Mabuchi, who is working her hardest at becoming a screenwriter but who never gets a break. She is the “bashauma” of the story, a term that refers to the horse that pulls a carriage. Yasuda, on the other hand, is the “big-mouthed” 26-year-old Tendo, who talks a big game but has never done anything.
Theatrical release is scheduled for fall 2013.

Ishida Yuriko, Kanjani8′s Yasuda Shota join “Yakou Kanransha” cast

Earlier this month, actress Suzuki Kyoka (44) was named as the lead for the TBS drama series “Yakou Kanransha” (based on the Minato Kanae novel of the same name). TBS has now revealed the show’s main supporting cast, including actress Ishida Yuriko and Kanjani8 member Yasuda Shota .
The story’s synopsis, as previously reported:
Suzuki plays the role of Endo Mayumi, a housewife who is driven to her mental and emotional limits due to her obsession with vanity, the collapse of her household, and harassment from her neighborhood. At the center of the story is a murder that occurs in an upscale residential area, and the Endos are one of three troubled families (along with the Kojimas and the Takahashis) depicted as the plot unfolds and the truth comes to light.
Having just moved into the neighborhood, it seems as if Mayumi’s dreams of a happy life have come true. However, her daughter fails to enter a prestigious private junior high school and turns to household violence, her husband begins avoiding coming home, and the people around her begin bullying her, all while she also has to worry about repaying the loan for her home. Her neighbors, the Takahashis, seem like an elite and happy family, until one day when Mr. Takahashi is murdered.
Ishida will play the part of Takahashi Atsuko, a seemingly perfect housewife who ends up being suspected of murdering her husband Hiroyuki (played by Tanaka Tetsushi). The Takahashi children will be played by Yasuda, Nakagawa Taishi, and Miyazaki Karen.
Mr. Endo will be played by Miyasako Hiroyuki, while the Endos’ daughter will be played by Sugisaki Hana. Natsuki Mari has been cast as Kojima Satoko, the woman who bullies Mayumi. Takahashi Katsunori will play the police detective on the murder case.
“Yakou Kanransha” will air on Fridays at 10:00pm, starting in January.

KAT-TUN to release a new single in February
It’s been revealed that KAT-TUN will be releasing a new single (currently untitled) on February 6th!
This will be KAT-TUN’s first single since releasing “Fumetsu no Scrum” in September. Their 20th single will include the CM songs for Suzuki’s ‘SOLIO‘, “STEPS TO LOVE“, “BRAND NEW DAY“, and “Connect & Go“.
The single will be available for purchase in 3 different types: Limited Edition 1, Limited Edition 2, and Regular Edition. Limited Edition 1 will contain “STEPS TO LOVE” and “BRAND NEW DAY”, while Limited Edition 2 will contain “Connect & Go” and a solo song from member Nakamaru Yuichi.

Kitagawa Keiko & Nishikido Ryo to star in a movie based on a true love story
It was announced that actress Kitagawa Keiko and Kanjani8 member Nishikido Ryo will be starring in movie “Dakishimetai“, which will be directed by Shiota Akihiko.
It will be a love story between a girl on a wheelchair, who is unable to properly use the left side of her body due to a traffic accident and also suffers from a memory disorder, and an ordinary taxi driver.
This is a true story that happened in Abashiri, Hokkaido, and it was aired as a documentary program on TBS back in July of 2011.
According to the director Shiota, he felt the “strength to carry out her own way of living” in Kitagawa, and the “strength to expose his weakness” in Nishikido.
The filming for the movie is said to start on February 12th in Abashiri. As Abashiri is a cold town where it gets to minus 20 degrees Celsius when drift ice arrives, Kitagawa commented, “I’m little worried that I might not be able to say my lines well (because of the cold weather)”, and also said, “I would like to make it a movie that could encourage people who are in similar situations.”
Nishikido also made a comment, “Though this will be my first time co-starring with Kitagawa-san, we are both from Kansai area. So I want to join forces, and do our best together.”
Reportedly, there is a scene where Nishikido carries Kitagawa in his arms, and a scene in which they kiss passionately, giving viewers even more to look forward to.
“Dakishimetai” will open in theaters next year.

<Plot>
A lively girl “Tsukasa” (Kitagawa), who is good at sports, becomes a wheelchair user as the left side of her body is disabled due to a traffic accident from a couple of years ago. She is also suffering from a memory disorder which was caused by the accident, but she still lives her life positively.
One day, she encounters a taxi driver “Masami” (Nishikido), who has a charming smile, and they fall in love with each other. The couple overcome many hardships together, and finally, decide to get married. They also find out that Tsukasa is pregnant. However, a harsh fate is awaiting them…

Kanjani8 fired up in their first regular show in NHK

On March 18th, Kanjani8 members, Yokoyama Yu (31), Murakami Shingo (31) and Shibutani Subaru (31) attended the production meeting for their new program in NHK Tokyo “Kanjani8 Owe Documentary Ashita wa Docchi da” (Start April 2nd/22:55) after recording for the first time, according to the press.
In October of last year during three consecutive nights the show was broadcasted as an special, becoming a regular show soon after and making the members glad. Yokoyama commented, “If I hadn’t entered Johnny’s I suppose I’d be doing ridiculous things right now (laugh). At the time I did really stupid things cause I was desperate. To be able to transform that story into an entertaining one is something wonderful”, making the staff laugh just when he was trying to sound serious.
The show highlights the life of people who work hard for tomorrow, they do interviews and get in contact to these people and their progress is shown as a VTR over a period of weeks. The experiences they get to record each week then, get finally edited in the studio.
The first program will be an special since 10PM containing a total of 73 minutes. Yokoyama will follow Gunma, son of Kiryu who’s being working on the reconstruction of the closed spa facilities. Murakami is in charge of a 24-year-old woman who was given a house for the first time in her third year of training as a carpenter in Shiga. Shibutani will interview a Pro Boxing Champion who aims to conquer Japan at the age of 36, before his age restriction license expires.
Shibutani commented, “Since it’s a documentary some parts won’t necessarily have a happy ending. Our job is to draw a realistic figure of people who live in an upright and hard way. I think the program is packed with tips to live”. While watching the VTR, Murakami said, “I can sympathize and recall my junior days. There’s a lot of energy you need to put into what you’re doing when there’s no choice but making it. During those days I didn’t work hard enough for quite some time so now I’m inspired byt this”.
There’s also a studio talk with all 3 of them to highlight some parts of the show, “I won’t force things into my shoulder, I want all of us to have a normal conversation like always”. Shibutani, “of course there’s always room for joking but this is a different way, since there’s a lot to talk about I would like to do it in an atmosphere of everyday conversation”. Yokoyama joked, “precisely because this is a documentary set to transmit messages to people beyond the age of 30, it’s impossible for Sexy Zone to get it”, smiling proudly.

Kanjani8 to release a new double A-side single in April
It’s been announced that Kanjani8 will be releasing their first single for 2013 “Hesomagari/Koko ni shika nai Keshiki” on April 24.
One of the title tracks “Hesomagari” will be used as the theme song for upcoming drama “Otenki Oneesan” which Okura Tadayoshi will appear, and the song is said to be an upper tune which encourages you to tackle the difficulty boldly.
The other title track “Koko ni shika nai Keshiki” has been chosen as the theme song for Nishikido Ryo’s starring movie “Kenchou Omotenashi Ka“, and it’s a medium number which expresses the feelings toward your precious places. Its music clip includes footage that was filmed by each member at 7 different locations across the country.
The double A-side single will come with limited edition A, B, and regular edition. Check out the details on each edition below!

KAT-TUN’s Nakamaru Yuichi graduates from Waseda University
On March 26th, KAT-TUN’s Nakamaru Yuichi (29) graduated the correspondence course in the Department of Human Behavior and Environment Sciences at Waseda University.
He attended the graduation ceremony held at the Waseda Campus and also held a press conference after the ceremony. Nakamaru appeared in Haori and Hakama (Japanese male formal attire), and said with diploma in hand, “I can clearly feel the graduation after receiving this (diploma). I was moved. Since I entered the school 6 years later I graduated from high school, I want to say ‘well done’ to myself back then.”
Apparently, Nakamaru is the first alumnus from the Waseda University in his agency, Johnny & Associates. He learned about welfare and environment, and it took 5 years for him to graduate as he maintained both his work and studies. His graduation thesis was themed “Globalization of [urban] music”, and he revealed that he received an “A+” for it.
Nakamaru also mentioned that he made no friends from the school as he took the correspondence course without attending the campus.

Kanjani8 achieves highest BD sales by a male artist in addition to overall lead position in DVD & BD charts
Kanjani8’s live Blu-ray Disc (BD) “KANJANI∞ LIVE TOUR!! 8EST ～みんなの想いはどうなんだい？僕らの想いは無限大!!～” (Released on March 13th) has sold 56,079 copies on its first week, topping March 25th weekly sales chart. They have managed to top this overall ranking since this list was created (July 2008), becoming the top male music artists to ever achieve this.
They have also topped DVD rankings simultaneously after selling 182,000 copies of the same work on its first week. Their previous DVD/BD release “KANJANI∞ 五大ドームTOUR EIGHT×EIGHTER おもんなかったらドームすいません” (March 2012) also achieved overall leads in both rankings.
In the same ranking there’s other 3 artists who have achieved this title twice and consecutively; Mr.Children, EXILE and Namie Amuro. Kanjani8 has become the 4th member of this list and they’ve gone straight to the top of it. In addition, this is the 7th consecutive DVD they’ve put in the top charts, they are on their way to reach both B’z and Arashi with 8 consecutive works, each.
This work presents live footage from the first concert of this tour, held in September of last year in Nagai Stadium, Osaka. A condense work after 8 years of growth of all members. There’s tears, there’s laugh, and some touching moments.

KAT-TUN to release new single “FACE to Face” in May
KAT-TUN will be releasing their new single titled “FACE to Face” on May 15!
The title track is the theme song for member Kamenashi Kazuya’s starring movie “Ore Ore (It’s me, It’s me)” which is scheduled to open in theaters on May 25. This will mark the first time for the group to sing the theme song for a movie.
The single will be released with three different types; limited edition, first pressed regular edition, and regular edition. Both limited and first pressed regular editions will come with a DVD, and the first pressed regular edition will include a coupling track titled “FLASH“, a solo song by Taguchi Junnosuke.
The regular edition will only have a CD, and one of the coupling tracks will be “DRAMATIC” which is the image song for NTV’s live coverage of professional baseball game ‘Dramatic Game 1844′, and is also used as the theme song for NTV’s ‘Going! Sports&News’.

Akanishi Jin to make a comeback with a new single in August

It was announced that Akanishi Jin will be returning through a new single "HEY WHAT'S UP?" scheduled to be released on August 7.
This will mark his first CD release in a year and five months, as his last release was his U.S. debut album "JAPONICANA" (released in March of 2012). The single will also be the first song in Japanese since his previous single "SEASONS" which was released in December of 2011.
Akanishi wrote and composed the title track, and it is said to be an up-tempo summer tune.
Akanishi left a comment, "Though I've caused so many worries, I am now able to release a new song. I never stopped making songs even during the hiatus, and I was longing for this day to come. I made this song with all my heart, as I wanted the first comeback song to be an up-tempo and bright dance tune which the fans who waited for my comeback for a long time, could be pleased with. Please look forward to it."
More details on Akanishi's comeback single will be revealed on Warner Music Japan's official site in a few days.
