There will be a panel discussion after the screening by Elizabeth Wong (Parti Keadilan Rakyat), Arul (Parti Sosialis Malaysia) and (we hope) an UMNO Youth representative who has yet to confirm. The session will be chaired by myself.
The panel will put on their futuristic glasses. We all know what happened in 1998 and 2008, but what will the country be like in 2018?
Schedule:
8:00pm: Arrival of guests
8:15pm: Screening of MALAYSIAN GODS (70 min)
9:25pm: Screening Ends
9:26pm: Panel discussion - "Reformasi, Tsunami & Beyond" featuring Elizabeth Wong (PKR), Arul (PSM), TBA (UMNO) and Amir Muhammad (NGI)
10:40pm: Ends
Admission: FREE!

MALAYSIAN GODS screening & futuristic talk with Elizabeth Wong (PKR), Arul (PSM) and Amir Muhammad
MALAYSIAN GODS is back! The documentary directed by Amir Muhammad will have its screening at 8pm on Thursday, 7th May, Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall.
There will be a panel discussion after the screening by Elizabeth Wong (Parti Keadilan Rakyat), Arul (Parti Sosialis Malaysia) and Amir is hoping that there will be an UMNO Youth representative. The session which titled "Reformasi, Tsunami & Beyond" will be chaired by Amir himself. We all know what happened in 1998 and 2008, but what will the country be like in 2018? The panel will put on their futuristic glasses.
Malaysian Gods had made its way to Singapore International Film Festival last month. The Board of Film Censors, Media Development Authority (MDA) of Singapore gave an M18 rating to Malaysian Gods just a day before the screening, and tickets were sold out an hour beforehand! The festival had withdrawn 6 films which were either disallowed or passed with edits as the they stood by its no-cut screening policy.
What made this event special, and in fact quite unprecedented in the 22-year history of the Singapore International Film Festival, was that a special police permit was required for the talk in conjunction with the screening! It was finally given at 9am, two and a half hours before the event. Amir was only allowed to talk for 30 minutes, before rather than after the documentary. "So this is the first time I have given a Q & A before a screening. Surprising Singapore, indeed!" said Amir after the screening. Amir is currently writing his new book. In the meantime, more Malaysian screenings are planned. |
