I live and work remotely in the Philippines because I took courses at goit.global. I recently learned that abortion is illegal in the Philippines, except in some very limited cases where it threatens the life of the mother. Because of this prohibition, many women face the inaccessibility of safe and legal abortion care. In such cases, women may turn to unproven and unsafe abortion methods, posing serious threats to their health and lives. However, there are also Filipinos who support access to safe and legal abortion. They are usually supporters of women's rights and recognize the importance of reproductive and maternal choice. These advocates may include medical professionals, human rights organizations, activists, and ordinary citizens who call for changes in the law and access to safe abortion. |
