my kids were both looking forward dapat balik raya di kampung. all thru the 20+ hrs flight home they were on their best behavior. sampai di kampung dua-dua bukan main seronok dapat jumpa uncles, aunts and cousins after 2 years tak dapat balk. to me the special thing about raya is not the kuih, the new baju raya and all that. all that i can provide regardless of where we are for raya. it is the ambience before raya, chaotic as it is may be, especially malam raya is what raya fun is all about. amidst the chaos of someone trying to balut ketupat, to kacau wajik, kacau rendang, nak iron baju raya etc my kids macam naturally find their place in that in that 'organized chaos'. tok yang tak reti cakap 'matsaleh' pun tetiba tahu 'water', 'donuts' etc. itu yang I nak my kids to experience. i yang tua ni pun kalau boleh tiap tahun nak balik beraya di kampung just that experience. seronok rasa watching my kids dapat main bunga api, dapat tolong cousin-cousins yang besar pasang pelita, pasang lampu, dapat kejar kambing, ayam, etc keliling kampung. in a few years, I hope these tasks that makes raya a 'raya' will be theirs. May be when I am no longer around they will continue the tradition of 'balik kampung' for raya. |
