last month i think during Maulidur Rasul, area Miri n Bintulu Serawak digegarkan oleh earthquake lebih kurang bawah 5.0 scale ritcher... so bleh tak someone kaitkan antara earthquake n volcanoes? ... adakah Malaysia jugak mungkin ada volcanoe? |

S'PORE BOY CRUSHED BY JAVA VOLCANO SHOWER
Hit by hot rocks the size of footballs
By Seto Nu-Wen
[The New paper , Singapore 10 June 2004]
MR AZMI Ismail and his wife had stopped at a stall for a quick bite. In the meantime, their two sons wandered off to trek up Mount Bromo, 700km east of Jakarta.
It was a typical holiday excursion.
The Jurong West family were in high spirits.
Just six days ago they had celebrated their 12-year-old son's birthday.
Little did they know it would be his last.
Nobody expected the volcano to suddenly erupt yesterday afternoon.
Hot rocks the size of footballs were flung into the air, landing on tourists below.
Mr Azmi and his wife, who were further away, were safe, but their two sons were not so lucky.
Muhammad Nur Hakim, 12, was killed under the shower of hot rocks.
His elder brother, Muhammad Hasanuddin, 15, is now in intensive care at Dr Soetomo General Hospital in Surabaya, with burns and neck injuries.
An Indonesian family friend, Naki, 40, had also accompanied the boys up the mountain. He escaped with light injuries.
ON THEIR OWN
'It was bad luck. The parents had decided to stop for awhile to sit down and eat.
'So the two boys went off on their own and got separated from them,' said a family friend, Mr Anas, told The New Paper this morning.
'It wasn't a very big explosion but it was just unfortunate that the children happened to be nearer the top.
'If the parents had been there, they would've been hurt badly too.'
Mr Azmi, told Jawa Pos that when the volcano exploded, he shouted for his two kids to climb down.
But he couldn't see them and they couldn't hear him as the smoke was too thick.
COVERED IN ASH
Witnesses said they saw the two boys running down the slopes, hand-in-hand, until a shower of ash and rocks engulfed them.
One of them told Jawa Pos: 'The elder boy was running in front of the younger one and pulling his hand.
'But the younger one was slower.
'Hot rocks were falling on them and they were running zig-zag trying to avoid them. There was a lot of smoke.
The next thing we saw was the two boys, covered in ash, and rolling down the slope.
'The younger boy could be heard screaming: 'Older brother, help me. Older brother, help me'.'
Said Mr Anas: 'Mr Azmi said he could hardly see because there was a lot of ash.
'He even lost his handphone.'
Mr Azmi told The Straits Times yesterday: 'It is fate.
'I could not do anything to help my son.
'The force of the explosion was too strong.'
Mr Anas said the elder son's condition was serious but stable.
'Hasanuddin has burns all over his body. I think he'll be in hospital for a few more days.
'And he will probably have to recover at home for a month.
'I don't know when the family is planning to go back to Singapore,' he said.
He said he was keeping an eye on the boy while Mr Azmi and his wife were busy preparing funeral arrangements for their younger son.
The couple also has a daughter, 3, who was with Mr Azmi when the tragedy happened.
Jawa Pos reported that the boys' grandmother, Madam Rapiah, had also joined the family on the holiday.
Mr Anas said he has known the family for a few years.
'They come to Surabaya often and they stay at a hotel, or with me and some other friends.
'Usually, I drive them around,' he said.
Jawa Pos reported that the family had arrived in Surabaya two days ago.
They were staying at the house of a family friend, Mr Nyai Masruroh.
When they arrived in Mount Bromo yesterday morning, the boys went for horse-riding.
Kompas newspaper reported that a 21-year-old Javanese man also died.
Four other Indonesians were also badly hurt, mainly from burns caused by falling hot rocks.

Nampaknya, volcano besar yang mengancam bumi masih belum dibincangkan. Volcano yang saya maksudkan ialah Yellowstone Park di Amerika Syarikat. Ini sebenarnya ialah volcano yang sangat besar.
Sedikit berita tentangnya:
Scientists have revealed that Yellowstone Park has been on a regular eruption cycle of 600,000 years. The last eruption was 640,000 years ago卻o the next is overdue. The next eruption could be 2,500 times the size of the 1980 Mount St. Helens eruption. Volcanologists have been tracking the movement of magma under the park and have calculated that in parts of Yellowstone the ground has risen over seventy centimeters this century.
The eruption about 640,000 years ago produced a caldera 53 x 28 miles (85 x 45 kilometers) across in what is now Yellowstone National Park (Figure 2). During that eruption, ground-hugging flows of hot volcanic ash, pumice, and gases swept across an area of more than 3,000 square miles. When these enormous pyroclastic flows finally stopped, they solidified to form a layer of rock called the Lava Creek Tuff. Its volume was about 240 cubic miles (1,000 cubic kilometers), enough material to cover Wyoming with a layer 13 feet thick or the entire conterminous United States with a layer 5 inches thick.
The eruption also shot a column of volcanic ash and gases high into Earth's stratosphere. This volcanic cloud circled the globe many times and affected Earth's climate by reducing the intensity of solar radiation reaching the lower atmosphere and surface. |

why not start by telling us a little bit more on PACIFIC RING OF FIRE?
Gunung Lipat Muda
Gunung Lipat Tua?
Jenis - jenis gunung berapai..
ada yg dormant
pendam and active and also thei ...
Guning lipat muda/tua agaknya new fold/old fold.
jom kita pergi rocky. kat situ ada old fold dan new fold. old fold di rocky tu hasil dari pelanggaran dengan sesuatu plet dan sudah tak aktif lagi. new fold di rocky to terhasil dari pelanggaran North American plate dengan Pacific plate. Yang old fold tu berlaku rasanya masa perlanggaran North American Plate dengan European Plate.
Kalau ada masa nanti saya cari gambar fold system yang ada old fold dengan new fold. |

Kinabalu tu dalam system Crocker Range. Bukan Gunung berapi.
Matair panas kat Pedas, N9 pon ada. so relak la.
BTW, kat Sarawak tu pernah ada gunung berapi. interesting. |
