KUCHING: The good response to the World Harvest Festival (WHF), the Beauty Pageant, the Ironman Competition, and the inaugural Sarawak Ethnic Kitchen Culinary Challenge gave the events the glitter this year.
The Beauty Pageant competition received over 100 participants while the Ironman- 57, said Tourism Ministry Permanent Secretary Datu Ik Pahon Joyik when met at the finals of the pageant on Sunday night at Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV).
“The Ironman Competition is for men to showcase their ‘Badang’ (strength),” he added. SCV general manager Jane Lian Labang said she was proud and touched by the number of people who came to watch the theme play during the finals. “The theme play incorporates song, music and dance, and is held at the lakeside using natural props. I’m proud that our youths are taking part in cultural events,” she said, of the show theme Legend of the Moon Princess.
“Apart from that, we also have a sape concert including one sape player from Indonesia tonight.” Asked on the upcoming Rainforest World Music Festival, she said they look forward to over 20,000 visitors this year, and this festival is special because they seek out artists and performers from remote places with extraordinary musical instruments to perform for people to enjoy the unique sounds. Over 100 artists will participate, she added.
Meanwhile, the WHF pageant winner was crowned past midnight which also signalled the closing of the festival. Trisdewi Trisno, 24, a Javanese-Chinese, took the crown. She also received RM3,000 cash, trophy, sash, flower bouquet, SEGi scholarship for full time management programme, Emilio Valentino branded watch and complimentary stay at Riverside Majestic Hotel and Damai Beach Resort. She also won the subsidiary title of Miss Dzarea Congeniality WHF 2016 with RM700 cash, sash and plaque.
First runner-up was Stephanie Elizabeth Lydia, 22, Iban-Chinese-Bidayuh. She received RM2,000 cash, trophy, sash, flower bouquet, Emilio Valentino branded watch and complimentary stay at Riverside Majestic Hotel and Damai Beach Resort. She also won the subsidiary titles Miss Fitness Riverside WHF 2016 and second runner up for Miss Talent WHF 2016 bagging RM700 cash, sash, trophy, flower bouquet; and another RM500 cash and flower bouquet.
Second runner up was Nur Ashima Affendi, 23. She received- RM1,000 cash, trophy, sash, flower bouquet, Emilio Valentino branded watch and complimentary stay at Riverside Majestic Hotel and Damai Beach Resort. She also won the subsidiary title Miss Talent WHF 2016 taking home RM1,000 cash, sash, flower bouquet and complimentary stay at Grand Margherita Hotel.
The other 10 finalists received consolation prizes of RM300 cash and Emilio Valentino watch each. Nur Haziah Khadijah Mazlan won the subsidiary titles of Miss Metrojaya WHF 2016 and Miss Popular Riverside WHF 2016, taking home RM700 cash voucher, sash, flower bouquet; and RM200 cash, sash and flower bouquet.
Morgan Christincey Baru won the subsidiary titles of Miss Beautiful Eyesight WHF 2016 and Miss Photogenic WHF 2016, bagging RM700 cash, sash, trophy and flower bouquet; and another RM700 cash, sash, portrait and flower bouquet.
Other subsidiary title winners were first runner up for Miss Talent WHF Kedung Ballang Kapong who got RM700 cash and flower bouquet; while Amanda Jane Simon won Miss Dazzling Zmile WHF 2016, taking home RM700 cash, sash and flower bouquet.
