Infants Development Information

In the first 2-3 months of the infant’s life, much time is spent sleeping. Yet there are waking moments in between when it can be seen that the infant is busy and eagerly taking in all the sight and sounds. Perceptual and auditory stimuli are critical at this stage. As months pass, baby are awake for longer periods and during these alert moments many small yet significant activities can be planned and provided to help lay the foundation for greater knowledge building later. Example:-

·
focused on developing such sensorial skills as tracking movement, experiencing different textures and sounds, recognizing patterns, practicing making sounds, and exploring nature, these activities are easy to plan and provide according to observed readiness of the individual infant and toddler.

The motor activities in this section also present infants and toddlers with opportunities to develop and practice their fine as well as their gross motor skills, including eye-hand coordination, visual acuity and manual dexterity. These skills affect not only physical development, but also the development of cognitive, sensory and practical life skills.

·
Selection of creative activities that develop the infants and toddlers neural pathways and lay early groundwork for the development of later mathematics, reading and writing skills. These activities provide infants and toddlers with opportunities to practice focusing on an object, identifying and matching objects with their parts, and experience differences in size and shape. Using
sample, everyday materials as much as possible, these activities help infants learn to focus physically and mentally , encourage and feed their natural curiosity, and allow them to solve problems on their own.

Activities that serve to increase social interaction and bonding between the infant/toddler and his/her teacher as well as increase interaction by being in the midst of other infants/toddlers. By simply “catching” the alert moments of the waking infant/toddler, much can be done in the way of offering various experiences that will develop the emotional as well as social competencies of the very young child.
